Chapter 69: The Broken Bagua Mirror
The date I chose was carefully considered, including the time needed to handle the Yin Marriage, and I solemnly decided on a day close to the end of June.
This way, Yin Yin's family felt reassured.
After finalizing the burial date, I specifically asked about something I hadn't seen when I arrived—the Bagua Mirror.
Yin Yin's Father said, "Sigh, the kids in the yard were being mischievous and broke it with a slingshot." Hearing this made my heart sink, and I quickly asked him to bring it to me.
When the Bagua Mirror was brought out, it was completely shattered and beyond repair.
"When did it break?" I inquired.
"It was missing when we checked yesterday."
Now, it was six o'clock; it must have been around four or five when it broke.
The mischievous child who broke the light bulb would have been sound asleep at that time. How could they possibly get up? Just before noon yesterday, Li Gui had appeared at Ma Wu Funeral Home, and Yin Yin's family's Bagua Mirror was broken.
Was it a coincidence, or was there something more to it?
I looked towards the yard; there were no other houses nearby—just a field of rice. A piece of electrical wire was tangled on the doorframe, along with a lampshade. The light bulb beneath the shade was gone, leaving only an empty socket.
"The light bulb is broken too."
The Bagua Mirror hung high on the doorframe. It would take a child with excellent eyesight and perfect aim to hit both the light bulb and the Bagua Mirror at that height!
Today's children are so engrossed in mobile games that many wear glasses, and even those who don’t often have mild myopia. Even if we assume this child had perfect vision, they wouldn’t just randomly cause such mischief while sleeping soundly.
From this, I can confidently conclude that this matter is related to Li Gui.
There is also one thing I cannot prove with evidence, which is that Yin Yin appeared in the store when Grandpa mentioned the foreseen death.
Yin Yin has a pure Yin fate; people with this fate are inherently very Yin, and combined with immense resentment, they are rare materials for nurturing ghosts.
Suppose Li Gui had long been lurking near Ma Wu Funeral Home and Han Family Village, originally intending to seek revenge, but inadvertently spotted Yin Yin. Then, he developed a malicious intent.
Let’s not forget about Zhu Gang.
No one knows who Zhu Gang's master is; could it be Li Gui?
This thought suddenly enlightened me. I snorted coldly and shook my head.
“Master Ma, is there a problem?”
“Did you see with your own eyes the little brat break the Bagua Mirror, or did you hear it from someone?”
Yin Yin's Father replied, “I didn’t see it; I just woke up in the morning and found the Bagua Mirror and the light bulb shattered.”
“Let’s go; I want to check the mourning hall.”
I followed behind Yin Yin's Father, while a pitifully thin dog, hunched over and with its tail tucked, lazily walked behind us.
Someone shouted, “Wang Wang, get out of the way.” The dog's slender legs trembled as if it were scared; instead of leaving, it lazily curled up next to Yin Yin's Ice Coffin.
“This dog…”
Yin Yin's father introduced the dog as a loyal creature. It was found by Yin Yin near a garbage bin, emaciated and infested with fleas. Yin Yin had begged her mother to help catch the fleas and give the dog a bath, which eventually restored its health. However, after the child had an accident, the dog stopped eating and drinking, becoming a shadow of its former self.
Indeed, animals seem to remember better than humans. I couldn't help but glance at Wang Wang.
It was scratching at the loose fur on its neck, drooping its head in a lifeless manner, resting it on its legs, ignoring my gaze.
To my surprise, I spotted Xiuxian sitting quietly in the corner, silently staring at Yin Yin's portrait on the altar table.
This girl had seen much but appeared pale and listless.
I had things to do and no time to ask her about it, so I carefully examined the ice coffin.
Something small, about the size of a fingernail and not yet burned away, caught my eye. Its overall shape resembled a lightweight gray piece of paper. I gently picked it up, and as I did, it trembled slightly before turning to dust!
The sight of it turning to dust felt eerily familiar, suddenly reminding me of the ashes I had discovered beneath a thin coffin.
Scenes from that moment flashed through my mind like a movie, leaving me astonished.
"Brother Qi."
A faint voice from behind interrupted my thoughts. I turned around to see Xiuxian. She had her head lowered, her hands neatly positioned at her sides like a student who had made a mistake, facing me—the strict teacher—seeking forgiveness.
"Xiuxian, do you need something from me?"
I stood up and reached out to pull her closer.
A middle-aged man carrying a hoe seemed displeased with my gesture and shouted at Xiuxian with an unhappy expression, "Xiuxian, your mother is calling for you."
"Who is he?"
"I'm Uncle." Xiuxian glanced timidly at the man with the hoe and whispered, "Brother Qi, I'm scared."
I signaled to Yin Yin's Father to greet the man while I quietly asked Xiuxian, "What are you afraid of?"
Yin Yin's Father understood and called out to the man with the hoe, "Changshui, have a smoke."
The man named Changshui didn't take the cigarette. He stammered that he had something to do at home and left, glaring fiercely at Xiuxian as he walked away.
The girl dared not look at him, lowering her head until he was far gone before hurriedly telling me, "Brother Qi, there's a really fierce person waiting for Yin Yin on the road, and then he took her to Xie Ming Manor... I'm scared. If I get involved in this, my tongue will rot."
"Is he very thin, with no flesh on his face, just skin? His eye sockets are deep-set, and his mouth looks like a gorilla's?"
"Yes, I dreamed about him last morning. He wanted me to lead the way, and I was scared."
"Don't be afraid. Wear this; keep it close to you."
The fierce person she mentioned must be Li Gui.
Li Gui was indeed lurking near Ma Wu Funeral Home and Han Family Village, looking for an opportunity to strike. Together with Zhu Gang, he harmed Yin Yin.
He is the real murderer.
And these ashes that have turned to dust are from a cursed Paper Ghost. So, could the ashes I found at the Funeral Home also be manipulated by Li Gui?
Knowing that Li Gui was nearby, I still couldn't call the police.
He couldn't search openly; he was in the shadows while I was in the light.
Yin Yin was still in his hands, perhaps he was using Yin Yin's Skull to extract resentment and bitterness, preparing to turn Yin Yin into a ghost he could enslave.
Poor Yin Yin, matched with Yin Marriage, targeted by the Evil Sorcerer's Li Gui, ultimately losing her life.
Currently, I had only one way to find Li Gui, but it came with certain dangers. Lao Luo urged me to escape; did that mean I shouldn't confront Li Gui directly? But I absolutely couldn't be a coward; I couldn't let Yin Yin down.
After a moment of cultivation, with the talisman I gave her, her pale face broke into a comforting smile as she skipped home.
Seeing my troubled expression, Han Mi comforted me, "How about I go back now and use the computer to look for Qin Ye's whereabouts?"
Her sincerity was naive, and I found it quite endearing. I couldn't help but sigh, "There are countless Qin Yes; how do you know which one is real?"
