Chapter 68: Burial Day
As I stepped out of the cemetery, feeling uneasy about Chi Zhi Ping, I called Chi Xinrong to check on her situation.
Despite her quirky and occasionally haughty demeanor, Chi Xinrong was quite meticulous when it came to handling matters. She had taken Chi Zhi Ping to the hospital, and after a series of examinations, it turned out that the doctor had been hungover and fell asleep at the cemetery. The cold weather combined with dampness had caused severe diarrhea before they reached the hospital, resulting in a terrible odor. The tests revealed a cluster of grape-like growths on his liver, which would require surgery soon to remove them for further analysis.
Chi Xinrong's voice was slightly off-key and choked with emotion; it seemed that Chi Zhi Ping's issue was more than just a foreign object—it was serious.
I wasn't good at comforting people, so I handed the phone to Mi, asking her to say something more heartfelt to Chi Xinrong. Han Mi took the phone, called out "Rongrong," and then there was silence on the line.
How rude of you, Chi Xinrong!
Rescuing Yin Yin and finding Qin Ye were both crucial tasks. I had a feeling that Li Gui would appear again.
I decided to split up with Han Mi. She would be responsible for searching for Qin Ye while I focused on rescuing Yin Yin; time in the Underworld was equivalent to time in the mortal realm.
The Underworld was one, and the Underworld was also one, so I couldn't afford to delay.
On the way back to the Funeral Home, Mi swung her arms playfully, her ponytail bouncing up and down.
"Brother Qi, I've thought of a way to quickly find Qin Ye."
"What method?"
"We can search online too."
I chuckled bitterly. "Dear lady, I've already thought of that method and searched online; it's nonsensical and quite difficult."
Han Mi raised an eyebrow and said with a frown, "Of course it's difficult. First, there's no height, second, no looks, and third, no distinguishing features. How are you supposed to find him?" She paused for a moment and reminded me, "Brother Qi, you won't misunderstand. He really can't give you a call; after all, he's dead. How could a dead person call you..."
She seemed to be imagining various terrifying scenarios in her mind, her voice growing softer until she glanced around nervously and couldn't continue.
"Are you scared?"
"Aren't you scared?"
I shrugged and joked, "Scared? What do I have to be scared of? It's you who should be worried; what if Xin Luo Shu calls you?" Just as the words left my mouth, Han Mi's phone suddenly rang, startling her so much that she yelped and dropped her phone on the ground before running off a good distance.
Could it be this coincidental? I felt a bit uneasy myself, wondering if Lao Luo was indeed trying to scare Han Mi in response to my words. I picked up her phone and looked at the screen: Han Yunsheng.
I said, "It's a call from Han Yunsheng."
Han Mi was shocked. "My dad is calling! Give it to me!"
I handed her the phone. As she took it, she started dialing while glancing at me and gesturing.
I pointed to myself, and she nodded. I understood that it seemed her dad had mentioned me during the call.
Autumn was approaching, and the fallen leaves were colorful. A few leaves still clung to the branches; when the wind blew, they trembled softly, lonely and desolate.
Finally, Han Mi hung up the phone.
She told me that her father had been asking about someone else, inquiring when Yin Yin's matter would be resolved and whether they would have to keep reciting scriptures like this indefinitely.
I was truly overwhelmed by this matter. So many things had suddenly come up; I initially wanted to settle the Yin Marriage with Yin Yin and then face whatever came next with calmness. However, I felt guilty and had been avoiding addressing this issue directly.
Now, with the sudden emergence of Li Gui and the unexpected passing of Lao Luo, I had lost quite a bit of time. Just like that, after the Bagua Mirror incident, there had been no further developments. After pondering for a moment, I said to Han Mi, "Let's go to Han Family Village."
Before heading to Han Family Village, I needed to contact Pang and let him know not to wait for us for lunch; I was going to clean up his mess.
Pang simply responded with a series of "mm-hmms" on the phone.
I said, "Your voice gives me goosebumps; why is it so ambiguous?"
"Hahaha, Brother Qi, are you and Mi...?"
This guy never takes anything seriously. If I continued chatting with him, I'd end up regretting it, so I quickly hung up and flagged down a tricycle on my way to Han Family Village.
I rushed all the way to Han Family Village. The tricycle driver showed no complaints and took shortcuts from the west side of the city to the eastern suburbs, taking forty-eight minutes and fifteen seconds. I gave him an extra five yuan as a tip, and he was extremely grateful, promising us discounts next time we rode with him.
At Yin Yin's home, there were no loud trumpet sounds or chaotic mourning scenes; instead, a quiet atmosphere filled with sorrow prevailed.
As morticians, once we set the funeral date for the deceased, we could focus on our own matters without other service items unless something significant happened at the funeral. We wouldn't show our faces during the ceremony.
At the entrance of the yard stood a makeshift Spirit Pavilion with only a few people scattered about. Some were tearing Joss Paper, others were wiping tables, and a few were comforting Yin Yin's mother, whose eyes were swollen from crying.
Yin Yin's father glanced at us and hurriedly approached me with a pack of cigarettes in hand.
Han Mi held Yin Yin's mother's hands tightly, offering her heartfelt words of comfort.
"Master Ma, could there be a mistake with the time that Zhu Dachang is looking at?" I took the Order he handed me, noting that the burial was scheduled for July 1st. The seventh month of the lunar calendar is Ghost Month, and there are still eight days until then.
Zhu Pang deliberately set the time so far out, hoping to make more money from the funeral, which would also allow him to profit.
Even if he makes money, it’s just to pay off his gambling debts. Fortunately, a lot has happened recently, and since he assured me he wouldn’t gamble anymore, I let it go.
Furrowing my brow, I calculated that if a person dies on a hard day, they should be buried on a soft day. Conversely, if someone dies on a soft day, they should be buried on a hard day.
The coroner at the station accurately determined Yin Yin's time of death; how could Zhu choose such an inauspicious day for her burial?
Moreover, July is Ghost Month, with the fifteenth being Ghost Festival. During Ghost Month, spirits from the Underworld come to the human realm to seek food. To avoid ghostly misfortune, funerals are generally avoided during this time.
It was a heart-wrenching sight as Yin Yin's father, who looked much older than his years and appeared haggard, anxiously looked at me. I flicked my fingers to pull out the mourning Order to prevent him from overthinking due to my doubts and spoke in a calm tone, "Let me take a look."
"Yes, of course." He eagerly offered me a seat and brought over cigarettes and tea with a respectful demeanor, sneaking glances at me.
I focused intently on the Order and didn’t pay attention to her.
She pouted and left to attend to other matters.
I continued examining the Order before turning to Yin Yin's father. "Could you show me your daughter's birth Ba Zi again?"
I actually knew Yin Yin's Ba Zi well enough, but I pretended not to in front of them. I couldn’t let them know that Yin Yin was matched for a Yin Marriage; otherwise, Zhu would be in serious trouble.
The Han Family Village is a large clan divided into Shangwan Village and Xiawan Village. In total, there are hundreds or even thousands of people in Xiawan Village alone. If everyone spat at Zhu Pang's face at once, it would be entirely possible for him to suffocate under their collective disdain.
Yin Yin, a female with the Ba Zi of Gui Hai, Yi Chou, Ji Hai, and Gui You.
As a pure Yin woman, she embodies the principle that pure Yin does not give birth, and pure Yang does not thrive.
The concept of Yin and Yang merging is essential for the birth of all things; when pure Yang and pure Yin lose their balance, it results in illness. This means that the world cannot consist solely of men or women; the absence of one side prevents harmony.
Yin Yin happens to be facing a clash with Tai Sui, with her luck clashing against her monthly branch. The day master is in a state of death and exhaustion, with her useful elements weak and imprisoned. The clash within her current luck is also a critical juncture between life and death; if she remains unharmed, her family members may still face life-threatening concerns.
Even if this girl grows up, she will remain solitary like a lone lamp. However, she has the ability to change her fate by refraining from the five evil deeds of greed, anger, ignorance, arrogance, and doubt; she can still alter her destiny.
Of course, there is no need for me to share this with Yin Yin's family. It would only add to their sorrow; it’s better to say something pleasant to comfort them.
With this in mind, I pretended to seriously examine the Ba Zi that Yin Yin's family handed me. My expression remained calm and unruffled as I burned the previous Order and spoke in a composed tone: "The chubby one has only been studying this for a short time; the date he chose is not auspicious. Let me select a better date for you."
