Chapter 58: Night Demon 0

Chi Xinrong struck at me, and I quickly grabbed her hand, holding it tightly. Perhaps I was too forceful, as tears sprang from her eyes, and she exclaimed, "You hurt me!" The scene unfolded so rapidly that Han Mi was left stunned, unable to react. 0

I couldn't resort to the same tactics as someone else and tear into Chi Xinrong like a shrew; I simply stood there, dumbfounded. 0

At that moment, the door crashed open with a loud bang as the chubby guy rushed in. 0

Everyone in the room turned to look at him in surprise. 0

He barreled in, looking disheveled. Upon seeing the overly intimate position between me and Chi Xinrong, he gaped, ignoring the mud smeared across his face, and casually asked Han Mi, "What are those two doing?" 0

Han Mi snapped back to reality at his question. She pulled Chi Xinrong away from me protectively and pointed at her, saying, "What gives you the right to hit Brother Qi?" 0

Tears welled up in Chi Xinrong's eyes as she replied with a sobbing tone, "Just because! No reason." She seemed ready to charge at me again. 0

The chubby guy, exasperated, didn’t care about anything else. He plopped down on the ground and shouted, "Are you blind? Am I invisible? I was chased by a ghost..." With that, he began to cry loudly in front of the two women without a hint of shame. 0

Ugh! 0

It was truly a sight to behold—Chi Xinrong and the chubby guy were a pair of clowns; one was throwing a tantrum on the floor while the other raised her delicate hand as if to strike. The entire shop was thrown into chaos by their antics. 0

"Enough!" I shouted firmly. My voice wasn't loud, but it carried authority. 0

Both the chubby guy and Chi Xinrong fell silent simultaneously. 0

Han Mi pressed tightly against me, startled. I looked at her, trying to maintain a serious expression while forcing a smile, doing my best not to appear too stiff so as not to frighten her. I then softly asked, "Tell me, what happened?" 0

Han Mi moved her thin lips and glanced at Chi Xinrong, whose face was still streaked with tears. "We were sleeping when we heard some noise in the room. It sounded like a sorrowful tune played on a suona. We were too scared to move because of you; no matter what we heard, we didn't get up. We just lay there quietly, and then suddenly she screamed, sitting up and accusing me of touching her face." 0

It was quite normal for them to hear the mournful sound of the suona. 0

Our funeral home couldn't compare to the soundproofing of big city houses. However, it was indeed a bit strange for Chi Xinrong to accuse Han Mi of touching her face. 0

Han Mi continued, "I've always slept alone since I was little. I've never shared a bed with anyone. At first, I found it uncomfortable and kept tossing and turning, but I wouldn't go as far as to touch her face." 0

Hearing that Han Mi had always been accustomed to sleeping alone made me think: if I were in your wedding chamber, I wonder if you would kick me out of bed in the middle of the night. 0

Chi Xinrong also had something to say. She had heard the suona playing funeral music but then fell into a deep sleep. Suddenly, she felt something slide across her face and jolted awake, cursing Han Mi for touching her face. Instinctively, she wiped her face and felt something slimy and wet that resembled saliva. Disgusted, she screamed. 0

Han Mi was equally baffled. She got up to check Chi Xinrong's face and indeed found something sticky there. Using a tissue, she wiped it clean and explained that it wasn't her doing. 0

Chi Xinrong wasn't foolish either; even if Han Mi had touched her face, it wouldn't leave behind something slimy and wet. When she wiped her face and brought her hand to her nose, a foul odor hit her. 0

The two girls didn't escalate the situation due to my instructions; instead, they turned off the lights and went back to sleep. Before sleeping, however, they carefully checked every corner of the room to ensure no one else was there besides them before lying down again. 0

Afterward, we carried away the body. 0

In our funeral home, with just the two of them present, who knew what would happen next? Chi Xinrong had barely lain down for a while before falling asleep (she had to fall asleep; I had placed a purification talisman in their drinking water to aid their slumber). In a daze, she felt a pair of icy hands slowly sliding under her clothes, followed by inappropriate movements beginning. 0

Chi Xinrong was terrified, her eyes wide open. In her shock, she felt the hands quickly withdraw. With the light from the window, she caught a glimpse of a shadow that vanished in an instant. 0

Han Mi stared in disbelief as she listened to Chi Xinrong's account. Her face turned pale, and her body trembled uncontrollably. 0

"Are you okay?" I wondered if she had also encountered what Chi Xinrong described. She shook her head, unable to speak. 0

After hearing Chi Xinrong's story, Fat stood up abruptly, ignoring how dirty he was. He wanted to give Chi Xinrong a comforting hug, but she stepped back warily and shouted, "What are you doing?" 0

Fat looked awkward and embarrassed. 0

I had my doubts about whether all of this was just a story concocted by Chi Xinrong to gain our sympathy or perhaps for compensation. However, seeing her face reddened and nearly peeling, along with her genuinely terrified expression, I couldn't help but feel curious. 0

Logically, if we left, it would just be the two of them in the Funeral Home. And what about the Paper Figurine in the front shop? Could it be that the Paper Figurine was the problem? 0

That possibility seemed unlikely; the Paper Figurine had no spirit unless someone cast a spell on it. Just like when I teased Fat before by blowing on a piece of paper while silently chanting a spell, turning an ordinary piece of paper into a Paper Ghost. 0

The theory about the Paper Figurine being mischievous didn't hold up. But since Chi Xinrong insisted that there was an invisible presence in the room, I had no choice but to conduct a thorough search later. Thinking about the Paper Figurine reminded me of the Paper Ghost—the one I had conjured to tease Fat—which had been silent until now. 0

As if summoned by my thoughts, chaos erupted when Fat suddenly screamed in terror, pointing at the door and shouting, "It's here! She's coming!" 0

I turned around to see the Paper Ghost. To my surprise, it had mimicked a human face remarkably well. A white face flew around above us; if I didn't understand Mystical Arts, I would have surely been scared out of my wits. 0

The Paper Ghost entered and startled Chi Xinrong so much that she let out a cry and collapsed. Fat quickly caught her and desperately tried to pull her away to hide. Seeing this, Han Mi jumped like a monkey and clung to me as if I were a tree trunk, wrapping her legs tightly around mine. 0

Her full breasts pressed against my chest, and I thought, Damn, I can barely take it. "Mi, you're igniting the fire..." I struggled to carry this female monkey and moved to the counter, grabbing a cup of water to splash at the plump Paper Ghost. 0

Water was Paper Ghost's nemesis. Fire and the overweight were raised in the Funeral Home; they didn't even understand this basic knowledge. Seeing him wrap his arms around Chi Xinrong with a look of enjoyment made my stomach churn. 0

As Paper Ghost fell to the ground and vanished into thin air, Han Mi jumped down, leaned in closer, and muttered, "Is it over?" 0

I responded with a grunt, preparing to carefully inspect the room to uncover the mastermind behind Chi Xinrong's troubles. 0

The plump one was overjoyed, reluctant to let go of Chi Xinrong, who was nearly suffocating him with her weight. As I passed by him, I didn't have time to remind this girl that her favorite pastime was slapping faces before I felt a sudden flash in front of me. A sharp, clear slap echoed in the air, causing me to instinctively cover my face. 0

The plump one looked embarrassed. Crying Mourning explained with a face full of confusion, "You came into my arms yourself." 0

Sigh! No pain, no gain. I pulled Mi toward the inner room as I heard Chi Xinrong arguing with the plump one behind us. 0
