Chapter 056: Transformation into an Evil Spirit (Part Six)
Yin Yin borrowed the Black Cat's soul! This thought startled me, but it had to be true. The Black Cat approached me step by step, its fierce, violent eyes looking at me as if I were a mouse desperately trying to escape.
Damn!
After all my calculations, how could I forget about the fact that I was leaving myself to die? Now, here I was, protecting this fat guy while facing danger alone.
In a flash, the Black Cat let out a strange cry and leaped toward me with all four paws off the ground. Its claws glinted menacingly as I quickly performed a spell, chanting: "I am commanded by Taishang Laojun, may the evil dissipate and the Dao Qi endure! Urgent Command! Exorcism!" My hand formed a sword gesture aimed directly at the charging Black Cat.
"Meow~" The Black Cat's eyes flashed with malice as it extended its claws, ignoring my Peach Wood Sword and heading straight for my face. I ducked just in time, narrowly avoiding a chilling rush of air that grazed my ear, sending a shiver down my spine.
The Black Cat landed and turned around to pounce again. My Peach Wood Sword was not to be underestimated either. I stomped on the ground and recited the Exorcism spell again: "With golden light surrounding me, may the five blessings descend upon me! Exorcism! Urgent Command!" A blue bolt of lightning streaked across the sky, and it seemed like rain was coming. The charging Black Cat was struck; my Peach Wood Sword pierced its neck. The Black Cat let out an incredibly shrill scream, thrashing violently. Its blood-red eyes remained wide open, but strangely enough, despite being hit, the Black Cat did not fall; instead, it raised its head to gaze at the red moon hidden among the clouds.
Another thunderclap echoed as the red moon loomed ominously. Tonight, I was in deep trouble.
The Black Cat's strength was immense; my Peach Wood Sword was beginning to falter, and my hands were starting to ache from its struggles. For a moment, I felt at a loss. My only hope rested on Fatty; I hoped he would crawl out soon.
But unexpectedly, much time had passed since our agreed-upon moment, and there was still no sign from him. Was Fatty really asleep?
Just as I prepared to pull out my talisman for subduing evil spirits and capturing ghosts, another loud crack echoed through the air. The red moon emitted an eerie red glow that cascaded down like a torrent. The Black Cat opened its mouth wide to reveal sharp fangs as that sinister light shone directly on it.
Under the red light, the Black Cat's body glimmered with a strange pale red hue, resembling a bloodthirsty demon.
For a moment, I felt entranced, standing there like a wooden chicken without knowing what to do.
"Don't let it absorb the Yin Qi from the red moon!" A loud shout broke through my stupor as Lao Luo appeared before me. Without time for greetings, I saw him holding what looked like a bone from some unknown animal and striking it forcefully several times.
As Lao Luo struck the strange bone, a chilling howl erupted from the Black Cat, as if a deflated ball had lost all its air.
Then, a delicate shadow rolled out from the Black Cat.
The shadow landed and crawled to Lao Luo's feet, kneeling and pleading, "Uncle Luo, spare me this once."
Lao Luo ignored the shadow and turned to me, raising his hand. In an instant, my muddled mind cleared up.
"Lao Luo, just now... I..." Damn, I truly felt ashamed of my grandfather's teachings for failing to handle the resurrected Black Cat.
"Don't blame yourself; there's still much for you to learn. You were just bewitched by her. Fortunately, I happened to be here to help you regain your senses," Lao Luo said, while the shadow on the ground remained motionless in its plea.
I knew Lao Luo wouldn't turn a blind eye to someone in danger. His refusal was meant to create a false impression for the Evil Spirit.
I believed that surviving this ordeal would bring me good fortune.
The fat guy, realizing everything was fine above ground, began shouting for help from his grave.
Lao Luo used the Dao Bottle I brought to collect Yin Yin's Evil Soul. After that, I still had to help Lao Luo pull him out of the grave.
Lao Luo knew quite a bit about Yin Yin. After gaining some weight, he cursed fiercely, "It's a good thing this matter involves Qi; otherwise, I wouldn't bother with it. Your conscience is really bad."
The fat guy scratched his head and tried to argue his way out of it.
Lao Luo didn't say another word to him and walked out of the Cemetery with me. I kept pondering why he had refused me at the hospital but appeared at such a critical moment.
Could the figure I saw at first be Lao Luo?
I tend to speak my mind, whatever thoughts pop into my head, I say them out loud.
“Lao Luo, the hospital rejected me. Why are you helping me now? Was that person I saw at first you?”
Lao Luo's sharp eyes shone brightly even in the darkness as he looked at me in surprise. “That person you saw was probably not me. I just arrived and noticed you were in danger, so I brought this out.”
What he held was a bone capable of subduing the Evil Soul.
“What is this?” Both Fatty and I were curious about what animal this bone came from.
Lao Luo switched on a flashlight, directing the beam at the bone. Only then did we realize it was a human skull.
“This is Yin Yin's skull?”
Lao Luo nodded and carefully wrapped the skull back up in red silk. Seeing his serious expression, I refrained from asking how he obtained it. After all, when her family retrieved Yin Yin from the funeral home, she had undergone special beautification before returning home.
Yin Yin died outside, and her Spirit Pavilion and mourning hall were set up elsewhere.
In our culture, those who die outside cannot return home. They can only gather Enlightened Monks during the burial period to chant scriptures, alleviating the grievances and sins caused by the unfair treatment they suffered in life.
Our task is to determine the burial time and use a compass to locate the grave site; as for the chanting, that is someone else's responsibility.
The red moon did not appear again, and the entire world seemed to sleep peacefully, exuding a sense of harmony and tranquility. As we passed through, we startled some pet dogs. The dogs tucked their tails between their legs and barked vigorously, prompting a chorus of crowing roosters.
“Ma Qi, you've become quite bold. Have you considered the consequences of your actions?” I was at a loss for words, unsure of what aspect Lao Luo was referring to.
Fat Yi rushed around, observing the situation. Hearing Lao Luo's words, he chimed in, “Who would dare to stop Brother Qi from doing anything?”
“Don't stir up trouble. If it weren't for you, Brother Qi, your worthless life would have been over long ago.” Lao Luo shot a glare at Fat Yi, who lowered his head and became less lively, trudging along silently behind us.
Lao Luo ignored him and continued to speak softly to me, “If something goes wrong, you'll regret it.”
“Yeah, thanks for the reminder, Lao Luo. I'll be more careful in the future.”
When we reached a fork in the road, Lao Luo stopped and handed me the Dao Bottle along with the red silk cloth that wrapped the Skull. “This is a special tool for dealing with Evil Spirits. Keep her Skull safe. I'm taking this path back to the hospital; you two head back to the Funeral Home. This is where we part ways.”
Watching Lao Luo walk away, I turned back to Fat Yi as we headed towards the Funeral Home.
As we walked, Fat Yi suddenly remarked, “Did you notice that Lao Luo actually walks on tiptoe?”
