Chapter 050: Transforming into an Evil Spirit (Part One) 0

When a hard approach didn't work, this guy was so tense that the veins on his neck were bulging, and his face was as red as if he were about to bleed. He was unwilling to confess about the secret arrangement of the Yin Marriage. 0

The fat man was afraid of being tickled. 0

I wasn't polite; I reached out and grabbed him under the armpit. A handful of fat quivered, and he laughed so hard he could barely breathe, begging, "Brother Qi, I'll tell you everything, I swear!" 0

"You're still a kid and you want to do something big? Arranging a Yin Marriage is no joke; if you mess it up, people can die." I pulled my hand out from under his armpit and brought it to my nose. There was a smell—sweat. Damn it, I even got a handful of dirt formed from sweat. I rubbed it vigorously on my pants leg and lowered my voice to curse, "You're at death's door and still trying to argue. They've already come looking for you, and you..." 0

Just as I was about to scold him about the Yin Marriage arrangement, I suddenly remembered that this information had come from Han Mi. 0

Afraid I'd hit him, the fat man covered his head and stammered, "It was just me messing around; there was no proper Ba Zi matching with the boy's family. I just thought that since one is unmarried and the other is unwed, as long as we bury their bodies together, that would be it." 0

"If Yin Yin were your sister, would you privately arrange her Yin Marriage with a complete stranger? And besides, you don't even know what kind of person he is or what his name is. Damn it, I really want to beat you up just to relieve my anger." 0

Seeing me raise my hand, the fat man yelped in fear and instantly shrank back. When he saw I wasn't moving, he put on a sad face and forced a dry smile. "Please don't, Brother Qi; I know I was wrong~" When I remained silent, this guy really knew how to make a scene; he raised his hand and slapped himself twice on the face. 0

I was truly speechless at his antics. 0

"Give me Yin Yin's birth Ba Zi and that kid's too." 0

"Oh." 0

The fat man went to fetch their birth Ba Zi while I wasn't ready with incense and candles yet. He came back holding a paper figurine. 0

On the back of the paper figurine was Yin Yin's birth Ba Zi. 0

"You didn't tell Yin Yin's family about this?" 0

"No, at first I thought it was just a corpse; we could bury it and then find someone to steal it for the Yin Marriage..." 0

"Are you kidding me?" I interrupted him and took the paper figurine. To be fair, while the fat man might not have many skills, he did quite well with the paper figurine. Looking at its front side, it really did resemble Yin Yin somewhat. 0

As I watched, blood suddenly flowed from the eyes of the Pure Paper Figurine. 0

Damn, this scene was truly frightening. At first, I thought it was just the paint that hadn't dried properly, but when I lightly touched it with my finger and brought it to my nose, I realized—"What a strong metallic smell; it really is blood." 0

The Paper Figurine bleeding was something that could only happen with immense resentment; it had never occurred before in my grandfather's experience. However, I had heard him recount a time when he helped someone with funeral arrangements. Generally, families with better conditions would have various items for burial. 0

One of those items was the Paper Figurine. 0

If the deceased was male, two female Paper Figurines had to be prepared. Some families were particularly particular about this. For instance, if the deceased enjoyed playing Mahjong, they would need to prepare a full set of Paper Figurines for burial. 0

On that occasion, my grandfather's friend took on an Outsourcing job. 0

Outsourcing referred to orders from outside the area. 0

It was best not to take on such orders unless one fully understood them. 0

Typically, there seemed to be a Mortician in every locality. 0

Wherever there were items meant for the dead, you could be sure there was a Mortician around. 0

My grandfather's friend accepted the Outsourcing job. 0

The accompanying Paper Figurine's eyes bled. 0

This was an ominous sign. 0

My grandfather's friend was terrified but dared not speak of it openly. 0

Still, they proceeded with the burial of the deceased as scheduled. As expected, something indeed went wrong. 0

In the morning, they buried the deceased; by afternoon, another person in the deceased's family had died. 0

The granddaughter of the deceased saw her grandfather, who had already been buried, waving at her from the window. The child was only a few years old and didn’t understand much. Upon seeing her grandfather, she walked toward the balcony and jumped off, tragically falling to her death. 0

Because of this incident, the grandfather's friend almost found himself in serious trouble. 0

If it weren't for someone calling the grandfather to intervene, that guy would have been beaten to death. 0

It turned out that the timing of the deceased's death was unfortunate. 0

The local morticians had all hidden away; this case was a bit tricky. Unaware of the situation, the grandfather's friend took the job for a high price—only for things to go wrong. 0

The story that the grandfather told was something Fat had heard before. So when he saw the paper figurine with blood streaming from its eyes, he was terrified, his legs shaking like leaves in the wind. He kept asking, "Brother Qi, what should we do?" 0

"Yin Yin still has unresolved grievances. If you give her a Yin Marriage, you're practically asking for death. Just wait for her to come after your life," I scolded before turning to leave. 0

Fat followed me closely, sticking to me like glue for the first time, pleading, "Brother Qi, save me." 0

I calculated with my fingers; it was nearly the hour of Hai. This was when Yin Qi began to stir. In just a few minutes, Yin Yin would definitely come looking for Fat. The child was furious at home and would love nothing more than to devour Fat alive. 0

If it had been back when the grandfather was alive, Fat's actions would have been considered a grave offense, deserving punishment by kneeling in the street. 0

I initially thought about punishing him but realized that sending him to kneel in the street would be akin to pushing him into the clutches of Yin Yin, who could potentially turn into an Evil Spirit. 0

I dared not let Fat kneel outside the Funeral Home tonight; otherwise, I would have to collect his body by morning. 0

Ghosts were notoriously difficult to deal with. 0

"Brother Qi, have you thought of a way?" Fat asked nervously as he glanced at the door. Outside was pitch black; he scratched his head anxiously and looked at me again, his eyes turning red with worry as cold sweat dripped down his face. He looked like he was about to bow down and beg me. 0

"Cough... Fat, it's not that I don't want to help you. You have a crisis tonight; my abilities are limited. Right now, I'll use a cinnabar pen to draw a talisman on you. Later, I'll go summon Lao Luo for assistance. If you make it through tonight without incident, you'll be fine from now on." 0

"Okay, Brother Qi, it's up to you. I'm begging you; I don't want to die." 0

“Fat, tell me honestly, where did you put my Soul Stone?” 0

Hearing me suddenly mention the Soul Stone, Fat's expression stiffened for a moment before he quickly regained his composure and sniffed. “Didn’t you want it placed in a location with excellent feng shui? I followed your instructions and used a compass to find a perfect spot, then hid the Soul Stone in an inconspicuous place.” 0

Seeing him so serious, he didn’t seem to be faking it. 0

If he were lying, he certainly had a knack for storytelling. I had launched a surprise attack, and with just one question, he was able to respond fluidly and weave such a convincing tale? I thought to myself that given Fat's background and intellect, it was unlikely he could concoct such a smooth story. 0

With that in mind, I decided to trust him once more. I took out a cinnabar pen and quickly drew Exorcism Talismans all over him. After settling him in the room to wait, I hurried off to the Station to find Lao Luo. 0

However, I was caught off guard; Lao Luo wasn’t at the Station. He was in the hospital recovering from injuries. Did I hit him that hard? Noticing that time was running short, I figured my hands were of no use here, so it would be better to rush to the hospital and tell him what had happened. 0

Just as I was walking out of the Station's main entrance, someone called out to me. 0

“Ma Qi, stop right there.” 0
