Chapter 00: The Judgment of Ghosts (Part Four) 0

Upon seeing Zhou Xiao, I understood the flicker of conscience that resided deep within Wu Shengxiu's heart. 0

Zhou Xiao felt immense guilt over Wu Shengxiu's disappearance, and with Ji Xiaoying's betrayal weighing heavily on him, he found himself utterly ashamed, ultimately choosing to take his own life. 0

Even after death, he did not forget to search for Wu Shengxiu. 0

In those lonely, desolate days of wandering, he desperately sought her out, calling her name in his heart. 0

Ghosts die at different times, creating a natural barrier between them. If it weren't for the Medium's assistance, the loving ghost couple would never have the chance to meet again. 0

Yet that longing connection stirred something within them; this was the reason why Wu Shengxiu could not fully become a ghostly spirit. 0

When I removed the Exorcism Talisman, Wu Shengxiu in the coffin refused to see Zhou Xiao. 0

She had just loved him moments ago, yet now she rejected his presence. As I peeled away the talisman and opened the Coffin Lid, she became enraged and transformed into a gust of cold wind, fleeing away. 0

This was quite troublesome. 0

Without resolving Wu Shengxiu's situation, Ji Xiaoying's funeral could not proceed as planned. 0

Ji Xiaoying was in a dire state. 0

She was being suppressed by the talisman, her ghostly energy fading away. We needed to lay her to rest as soon as possible to prevent her soul from scattering and ensure she could reincarnate. 0

"She's still angry." When Zhou Xiao saw Wu Shengxiu, his joy was evident. However, when she vanished in the blink of an eye, disappointment washed over him. He reined in his ghostly demeanor and pleaded with me, "Please help me find her. I want to ask for her forgiveness." 0

Grandfather once told me that the reason ghosts linger in the mortal realm, unwilling to depart, is due to unresolved wishes that prevent them from reaching their destined place. Zhou Xiao's unfulfilled wish was not for revenge, but rather a plea for Wu Shengxiu's forgiveness. 0

It is evident that men are softer in character than women; they dislike the violent struggles and deceitful conflicts, seeking only a lifetime of peace and tranquility. 0

I agreed to Zhou Xiao's request to help him find Wu Shengxiu. However, I had my own conditions. After a moment of contemplation, I made my demand. 0

"You must write one hundred heartfelt letters to me without a trace of distraction. I will then pass them on to Wu Shengxiu." 0

Zhou Xiao nodded eagerly, ready to start writing immediately. 0

I prepared the paper and pen, stepping out of the dark room. I told Zhou Xiao, "You can sleep in the coffin; write at night." 0

After all, I am human too, and humans need rest. 0

I needed to recharge so that I would have the energy to handle Ji Xiaoying's funeral the next day. 0

As I exited the dark room, I couldn't help but take a glance at Fatty. 0

There he was, drooling and mumbling in his sleep. 0

"Rongrong, I like you. You're so beautiful. Here, here is where I like you." 0

Who was this Rongrong he mentioned? Curious to hear more clearly, I leaned in closer— 0

Before I could catch his next words, he suddenly opened his eyes wide and jumped up, shouting, "Brother Qi, you're going to scare someone to death!" 0

"Shut up, it's just a glance. You were mumbling in your sleep earlier, shouting something... right, who is Rongrong?" 0

"Hi hi, she's Ji Xiaoying's daughter, named Chi Xinrong." 0

Chi Zhi Ping's daughter? I had my doubts but kept them to myself, reminding Fat not to forget to put that stone back in place for me. 0

I stepped out of Fat's room and went to check on Grandpa. 0

Grandpa looked the same as always; his body hadn't stiffened. He seemed like someone who had just fallen asleep and would wake up in the morning. 0

This was also why Fat and I couldn't believe that Grandpa had really passed away. 0

It felt as if Grandpa was playing a joke on me, pretending to be dead when he would still appear before me in good health. 0

If Grandpa had truly passed away, it would be a peaceful end for him. 0

He was nearing eighty years old, but unfortunately, we couldn't alert outsiders. Otherwise, I would have made sure Grandpa's funeral was grand and lively, a splendid send-off. 0

"Grandpa, you rest well. I know what to do about the arrangements. As for Ji Xiaoying's matter, I already have some leads." Then I knelt down slightly and adjusted the wick; this was a specially made long wick for the guiding lantern. 0

Usually, it wouldn't be sold at the counter. 0

This was something Grandpa had reserved for himself. It was just for show; ordinary folks valued filial piety. If someone else bought this and used it, it wouldn't be considered Filial Piety anymore; they would just fall asleep without a care for keeping vigil. 0

Stepping out of Grandpa's room, it was time for me to rest. I stretched lazily; I was so tired that I just collapsed onto the bed and quickly fell asleep. 0

According to scientific reasoning, when a person falls asleep, the brain rests while still functioning. 0

I believe this scientific principle holds true. I wonder if others experience something similar—feeling different sensations while asleep. 0

This sensation is terrifying. 0

I dreamt of my own funeral. 0

A coffin, filled with fresh flowers. 0

And black veils—my grandfather had Demon Eyes. After activating my Demon Eyes, I could see clearly in the dark, much like a beast. 0

I felt myself moving, not walking, but my entire body was sprawled over the edge of the coffin. Then I crawled out of the coffin and reached the ground, slithering around the room in a winding manner. 0

This feeling was unsettling. 0

Had I mutated? 0

Impossible. I have human consciousness; how could I possibly mutate? 0

If it wasn't mutation, then why was I crawling instead of walking on my legs? 0

What was that sound? 0

I slithered in front of a mirror and saw, to my shock, a snake staring back at me—a large, colorful serpent. 0

Oh my God! I was startled awake by that snake, and I scrambled up, my hands frantically searching around. 0

I touched my face. Looking down, my legs were still there, and I let out a slight sigh of relief. 0

What kind of bizarre dream was that? 0

It felt so real, as if it had truly happened to me. 0

Especially recently, when I saw the Hanging Woman appear at the Funeral Home, wanting to buy a rope. In the end, she really died from Hanging by a Beam. Now I've had this strange nightmare; what could it possibly mean? 0

Just as I was dazed and confused, something dripped onto my nose. Instinctively, I reached up to touch it and looked up. Logically, it shouldn’t be leaking in here; how could anything be dripping down? 0

In just two seconds of looking at my finger and then up, I was horrified to see blood on my fingertip as I glanced at the Roof. 0

Crawling on the Roof was a bloodied figure, a person whose body was mangled beyond recognition. I saw her; she was swiftly crawling toward me. Terrified, I jumped instinctively off the bed. 0

That jump nearly gave me a heart attack. 0

I tumbled off the bed with the blanket wrapped around me and hit the bedside table hard enough to wake me up in pain. 0

Opening my eyes, I heard the noise of people shouting and cars honking outside. Was it morning already? 0

I had slept deeply, but still felt groggy. 0

I got up and headed to the kitchen where Fatty had already eaten and left, leaving congee and pickles under a mesh cover. 0

I quickly finished my meal and picked up my phone to check the location of Fatty. The phone's notification indicated that it was out of service. After eating, I decided to check on Grandpa's condition; his body still felt soft and limp. 0

On the Altar Table, the bowl was empty? 0

I remembered there were some snacks and fruit in the bowl last night. The big apple was gone too—Fatty must have eaten it! 0

Fatty had a good appetite and would eat anything. I thought if Grandpa could eat, he might have even pickled something to enjoy. 0

The flame of the guiding soul lamp flickered vigorously, requiring no additional oil. 0

With Grandpa in this state, I couldn't seal his secret passage; I could only assess the situation. It might very well be a case of apparent death. 0

There have been instances of apparent death in medicine. Anyway, the temperature in the room was suitable; even if Grandpa's body had stiffened, it wouldn't start to smell right away. This allowed me to feel at ease as I went to see Zhou Xiao. 0

Upon entering the dark room, I found that the candles had long since burned out. A large stack of written sentiments lay atop the coffin lid, making me admire his commendable perseverance. 0
