How could one discover the true identity of the Black Queen from a thousand years ago?
The most straightforward way would be to ask her directly, though whether she would answer is another matter entirely.
Jokingly, after leaving the library, Shasha's first thought was to find Elizabeth. If anyone among his acquaintances knew about the Black Queen, it would surely be this successor to the Black Cardinal.
However, halfway to his destination, Shasha changed his mind. It wasn't that he didn't trust Elizabeth, but ever since Damon had attacked her, she had been acting strangely, which might lead to associations with the Black Queen.
After hesitating for a moment, Shasha slowly turned the car around. Just as he was about to leave, he heard a commotion on the street.
"Hey, buddy, which eye saw me steal this lady's wallet?"
"I clearly saw you take her wallet. After I caught you, you put it back."
From their conversation, Shasha quickly understood what the argument was about.
He parked the car to the side and approached, only to discover that the alleged pickpocket was actually Brian, Elizabeth's younger brother.
"You're really something else. If you're going to slander someone, at least do it properly," Brian said innocently.
Even the lady involved seemed to think that Brian was just looking for trouble.
With a youthful spirit and a strong sense of justice, Brian's face flushed with anger at the accusation.
People around them whispered among themselves, most believing that Brian was simply stirring up trouble for no reason.
Unable to endure being falsely accused any longer, Brian pushed through the crowd and attempted to leave but was blocked by the thief.
"Hey, you think you can just walk away after slandering me? You owe me for emotional distress!"
Looking at the thief's dark and menacing expression, Brian felt fear creeping in but showed no signs of backing down. "You want me to pay for your stolen money? Dream on!"
The thief grinned maliciously at his response. "Then don't even think about leaving today."
With that, he lunged toward Brian with both hands outstretched. To him, this seemingly weak boy was no match for him and wouldn't be able to escape.
Where did Brian think the thief would strike? He had not yet reacted.
Suddenly, a large hand reached between the two of them and firmly grasped the thief's right hand.
With a sharp pain, the thief let out a strange cry, wondering who was meddling in his affairs. He glanced over with a fierce look, only to meet a pair of eyes filled with murderous intent. His robust frame trembled at that moment.
He had seen similar eyes before, only in those ruthless drug dealers or underground figures. However, even those individuals, no matter how intense their killing intent, could not compare to the soul-piercing gaze before him.
With a forceful shove, the thief was knocked down, causing several wallets to fall from his pockets onto the ground.
A few onlookers gasped in surprise and then erupted in joy.
It was clear that the thief was indeed a thief, and Brian had acted heroically, recovering the lady's losses.
Amidst the lady's words of apology and gratitude, Brian remained humble.
Once everything settled down, Brian approached and finally got a good look at Shasha. He couldn't help but exclaim, "Mr. Samar, I never expected it would be you helping me."
"It was just a small effort," Shasha waved his hand and smiled. "After all, you are Elizabeth's brother, and what you did was right; you just overlooked some practical factors."
Reflecting on what had just happened, Brian's expression darkened. If it weren't for Shasha's appearance, he might have been beaten by that thief. In this day and age, people no longer wanted to hear the truth; even if you did good deeds, others might not appreciate it.
Seeing Brian like this, Shasha understood that this was a young man with a sense of justice facing setbacks and wavering in his beliefs. He patted Brian on the shoulder and said, "Actually, you don't need to be discouraged. What you did was correct; it's just that your approach could have been better. When you identified that person and stopped him, returning the wallet was already a signal. By confronting him directly without evidence, he could easily turn the tables on you. If you had intervened after he had stolen the wallet, he wouldn't have had anywhere to hide it, and you wouldn't have been wronged."
Hearing this made Brian feel somewhat better; his face showed a look of understanding.
Shasha smiled at this and suddenly asked a question, "Aren't you supposed to be in class today? Why haven't you gone yet?"
At this question, Brian's expression became somewhat awkward. "I took a leave."
Shasha inquired further, "Oh? Is there something you need to take care of? Or are you feeling unwell?"
Brian shook his head in confusion. "No, nothing like that—just some personal matters."
There's truth in saying that straightforward people never understand what it means to beat around the bush. Brian wasn't good at lying; thus his expression made it clear that he had something on his mind.
“Tell me the truth, or I might just have to tell Elizabeth about this.”
Startled, Brian's expression changed, and he quickly waved his hands. “Please don’t!”
“Then let me hear it; maybe I can help you.”
Brian looked troubled but slowly revealed the reason. “I feel like my sister now isn’t really my sister.”
Shasha narrowed her eyes at this. “Be more specific.”
“It’s as if she’s wearing my sister’s skin, but I can feel that it’s not her at all.” Brian looked sad. “I’m confused and don’t know what to do. I can’t face her like that.”
Shasha pondered for a moment before patting Brian on the shoulder. “You have to face it eventually. If you don’t know what to do, just ask her directly. Besides, I have some questions for her too.”
