Magneto's expression was grim. Although the main force had retreated in time without significant losses, that batch of fresh recruits had been wiped out by Shasha, including several promising talents. This time, they had truly hurt the enemy a thousand while suffering eight hundred themselves.
"We underestimated Liquid Snake's strength," Mystique sighed. "I never expected that guy to be so powerful. If it weren't for S.H.I.E.L.D. blocking him for us, several of us might not have made it back."
Hearing this, Magneto nodded solemnly. "This time, it was my decision-making error. I thought I could force that guy to hand over the Demoness, but it seems that approach was completely ineffective."
"Eric, are you really considering making a deal with him?" Mystique asked, astonished.
They had just fought a battle, and now he wanted to establish a trading relationship? Even if their side was indifferent, the other party probably wouldn't agree. Just based on how ruthlessly he had eliminated those fresh recruits, it was clear he would retaliate without hesitation.
"How can we know if we don't try something we've never done before?" Magneto replied calmly. "If we can reach an agreement, then good. If not, I'll personally make him understand that the name Magneto is not something one acquires for free!"
His words reflected his extreme confidence and the domineering aura of a king.
Mystique couldn't refuse his command. "Then I'll take care of this matter."
On S.H.I.E.L.D.'s side, Nick Fury, who never believed Liquid Snake would become a serious threat, was now tasting the bitter fruit of his misjudgment. Over a dozen agents were severely injured; this was a loss he could not accept. He never expected Liquid Snake would actually dare to strike.
Did this guy not fear S.H.I.E.L.D.'s retaliation against his forces in the future? Or did he feel invincible?
Nick was right; Shasha indeed felt invincible. In his view, even if America's forces were dismantled, it would only mean losses within this country; he could always start anew elsewhere. Moreover, he had another layer of identity.
From the moment Magneto attacked, Shasha knew that old man was trying to force him to hand over the Demoness.
The Demoness was something Shasha would never give up. That old man had caused him such heavy losses; if he didn't teach him a lesson, the old man might think he could be easily bullied!
Command Target Eye, Frank, and Luke began leading their subordinates to sweep through the mutants under the Brotherhood. Those guys were already struggling to survive, yet they dared to provoke him; they truly did not know when to quit!
As the three of them commenced their search in New York, one by one, the Brotherhood mutants were found and captured.
Shasha chose not to kill them this time because he wanted to draw out Magneto.
However, instead of Magneto, he ended up drawing out his capable subordinate, Mystique.
Looking at Mystique, who stood before him without a hint of panic, Shasha maintained a blank expression. "What did that old man send you here for? If it's for peace talks, then forget it; there's nothing for us to discuss."
"No, I'm not here to negotiate with you," Mystique replied with a light laugh, a seductive smile playing on her lips. She gracefully walked behind Shasha, leaned down to wrap her arms around his neck, and whispered sweetly in his ear, "This is a transaction."
Faced with Mystique's advances, Shasha remained unmoved, though he was somewhat intrigued by her mention of a deal.
Seeing that Shasha did not speak up, Mystique understood that he was tacitly allowing her to present the terms. She lowered her voice and spoke softly, "We will compensate for all your losses and make the Brotherhood your ally, even helping you expand your influence. Haven't you always wanted to overthrow Jin Bing and become the sole underground power in America? We can assist you."
These conditions were indeed tempting, but he asked, "What's the catch?"
"The Sorceress."
Shasha chuckled; that old man still had hopes for that individual. The modification device had serious flaws; even if it could turn those politicians and New Yorkers into mutants, they would die within a short period afterward.
"Alright, I understand your terms," Shasha said slowly as he rose and freed himself from Mystique's enticing grasp. "Go back and tell your Magneto that I will definitely not agree to this condition. If war is what he wants, then I will accompany him to the end."
Mystique retracted her charm and coldly regarded the man before her who lacked understanding of the situation. "What use does the Sorceress have for you? Can she help you obtain what I possess?"
"Do you still not understand what I mean?" Shasha sneered. "She is now mine, and as my person, she is under my protection. If you want her, it's like trying to snatch food from a tiger's mouth; you could be bitten at any moment!"
Mystique trembled with anger. She had never encountered such an unreasonable man. Did he not understand the concept of mutual benefit? Did he not know how to maximize his own interests? To oppose a powerful force for the sake of an unrelated woman was simply not the act of a wise person!
"You're being unreasonable! Return the mutants you've captured to us!"
Hearing Mystique's demand, Shasha only laughed. "I can return them, but only if Magneto himself comes to collect them. As for you, you're not qualified enough!"
Mystique shot Shasha a deep glance, one filled with too many emotions to express. Without saying a word and without looking back, she turned and left.
After Mystique departed, Shasha knew that soon, Magneto would come.
In this battle, Shasha intended to make the name Liquid Snake instill fear in all underground forces!
