The figure emerging from the shadows seemed as if it was born from darkness itself. He resembled an old-fashioned gentleman, dressed in a tailored suit with polished shoes that gleamed, leaning on a skeletal cane. A calm smile adorned his face, as if nothing could ever disturb him.
"I believe you can leave him to me. After all, he is my 'creation.'"
The one who uttered these words was none other than Mephisto, one of the seven demon lords of Hell, known for his hatred.
For Shasha, encountering such a god-like being for the first time was bound to stir some emotions within her. After all, this creature possessed immense power, yet he was bound by the restrictions of the human realm.
Long ago, Hell had signed an agreement with the world of mortals, stipulating that anyone entering the human realm could not use more than five percent of their power. Exceeding this limit would provoke an all-out war!
Shasha raised an eyebrow and without hesitation kicked Johnny Blaze over to Mephisto's side. She had no intention of opposing the Lord of Hatred; after all, he was an ancient being who had existed since the dawn of Hell.
With a light tap of his cane, Johnny Blaze and his motorcycle vanished into thin air, yet Mephisto remained, watching Shasha with keen interest. "You give me a strange impression, as if you are one of the first truly capable assistants I have encountered."
This remark elicited a cold smile from Shasha. "Those who pique your interest rarely end well."
Just look at the tragic fate of the Evil Spirit Knight family created by Mephisto using Zatannos's vengeful spirit; anyone marked by him typically ended up having their souls toyed with and met a grim fate.
A flicker of surprise crossed Mephisto's face before it transformed into amusement. "It seems you know quite a bit about me."
Shasha merely shrugged, unwilling to engage further with him.
Due to her concern over the Saint Vancasa Treaty, Mephisto did not waste any more time. He left her with a parting remark before disappearing from her sight. "Interesting young lady, I believe we will meet again. Heh heh heh."
His deep and chilling laughter made Shasha frown. The real issue was that she had attracted the attention of this ancient monster while merely intending to teach the Evil Spirit Knight a lesson.
Sighing, Shasha couldn't help but reflect on how much had happened that night.
The next day, a company named AI rose to prominence overnight in New York. It acquired various scattered companies in the military industry and integrated them. Many people were unaware of who was behind it all, as the company's owner had never shown their face; all they knew was that the chief research and development engineer was named Ivan Vanko.
The moment Shasha saw that name, she realized they were targeting Tony. She never expected these villains to band together like this; it seemed Tony was in trouble now.
Thinking with a sense of schadenfreude, Shasha found amusement in the unfolding drama. After all, nothing lifts one's spirits quite like discovering someone else is worse off, and it was clear that person was Tony.
Not wanting to focus on the situation at hand, Shasha instructed her underground network to investigate the Brotherhood of Mutants. She was curious to see what Magneto was up to.
In truth, Magneto was quite troubled. He had painstakingly built a gene-altering device, but the source of energy—a mutant girl with special abilities named Anna Marie—had gone missing.
According to reports from his subordinate, Saber-Toothed Tiger, the girl had been kidnapped by the new underworld player, Liquid Snake.
Magneto wasn't afraid of Liquid Snake; however, if both sides rushed into battle, it could lead to unnecessary complications that would ultimately be counterproductive.
At the dilapidated church base of the Brotherhood of Mutants in Los Angeles, Magneto had endured for so long and would not allow his plans to falter. Just as he was deep in thought, a woman with deep blue skin and an alluring figure, marked with intricate patterns, gracefully entered his room.
This woman was Mystique, Magneto's most capable assistant, possessing the ability to shapeshift, replicate others, and alter her own structure at will. Compared to Anna, Mystique's abilities were invaluable in the realm of espionage.
Her very nature made her perfect for intelligence gathering.
“Max, are we going to keep waiting like this? It's been two months already, and news about mutants is gradually coming in. There are now quite a few anti-mutant sentiments and organizations emerging.”
Hearing his assistant's words, Magneto nodded slightly, his expression unchanged. He had anticipated such developments. To him, it was merely a matter of time; as long as they found the Scarlet Witch, everything would no longer be a problem.
After a moment of contemplation, he slowly said, “Have Saber-Toothed Tiger and the others prepare. We will take the Scarlet Witch from that Liquid Snake guy! At any cost!”
Upon hearing Magneto's resolute decision, Mystique's eyelids twitched. This meant that Magneto was ready to abandon caution and resort to unconventional methods. If they weren't careful, it could lead to an all-out war between both sides. It wasn't necessarily about which side would win; the most likely outcome would be mutual destruction.
Thus, as his assistant, she couldn't help but remind him for the sake of maximizing their interests, “Actually, we could collaborate with Jin Bing. After all, the enemy of my enemy is my friend; there's no need to complicate things further.”
Magneto scoffed at her suggestion. “Of course I know that contacting Jin Bing is undoubtedly the safest approach. But time waits for no one. You should know that discussing cooperation with that fox Jin Bing takes at least ten days—if not more.”
“Once we clear one obstacle, do we really need to deal with those guys?”
