As Shasha described, Charles showed no signs of surprise; instead, it was Aurora beside him who appeared strange.
"Is she an 18-year-old Asian girl? Short hair, looks very lively?"
Shasha nodded immediately, "Yes, that's her. Her name is Li Qianhuan. Where did you see her?"
Aurora smiled wryly and nodded, "I have indeed seen her, and the timing matches what you mentioned. When I saw her, she was being chased by mutant hunters, and then Qin and I intervened to save her."
"What happened after that? Did she follow you?" Shasha pressed on, feeling he was getting closer to a lead.
Aurora recalled carefully, "It seems so. However, at that time, Qin and I were heading to the Australian Base, so I didn’t pay much attention. She seemed to have followed us for quite a while, but once we entered the portal, we lost track of her."
Upon hearing Aurora mention this incident, Charles seemed to remember something as well. "Was it during the search for Logan? You took the portal to the Australian Base, right?"
"Yes," Aurora confirmed.
Shasha pondered for a moment. "So where is that portal now?"
Aurora frowned. "Are you suspecting that Li Qianhuan's disappearance is related to the portal? That's impossible; the portal is honorable and would never harm a girl like her. Besides, she's a mutant."
Although Charles remained silent, his expression indicated his stance.
However, Shasha was not convinced by their faith in the portal. He calmly said, "She is a mutant; only you and Jean Grey know that. Does the portal know? If it mistakenly identifies Li Qianhuan as a spy for the Brotherhood or someone with ill intentions and randomly sends her somewhere else, it’s not impossible."
At these words, Aurora was taken aback; thinking it over made it seem quite plausible. She hesitated and looked towards Charles, who also appeared somewhat shaken.
After a moment, Charles sighed lightly. "If that's the case, we'll just have to call him in for questioning."
With heavy thoughts, Aurora left them in silence.
After a long while, Charles spoke up. "If things are truly as you say, I will punish the portal."
Although Shasha's expression remained somewhat grim, he was not unreasonable. "There's no need for that; after all, Aurora saved her before. If something really happened to her, it would be even."
Charles let out a bitter smile. If the passage really did that, it would be tantamount to personally strangling a young life, especially one belonging to a mutant. They would never commit such an atrocity against their own kind. Even if one suspected the other of being an enemy, resorting to such means was no different from murder.
Given how much time had passed, he could only think of the worst.
Charles truly hoped that this incident wouldn’t create a rift between him and Shasha. After all, he admired her, not to mention her status as a Level 4 mutant.
Before long, Aurora entered with a middle-aged man. He wore the standard Warriors uniform and had a serious expression, looking like someone who was utterly devoid of compassion.
“Professor, what did you want to see me about?” he asked, glancing at Shasha before continuing on his own.
Charles looked at him with a complex expression and asked, “I want to know if you saw a girl six months ago.”
As Charles spoke, it triggered a distant memory in the man. “I think I might have seen her.”
Upon hearing this, Charles exchanged a glance with Aurora, both seeing a hint of bitterness in each other's eyes. Still holding onto hope, Charles pressed on, “Do you know where that girl went?”
It was clear that the man was not one to lie; he recounted what had happened at the time. “She was with Aurora. I suspected she might be a spy for the Brotherhood, so I banished her into the gap.”
Before Charles and Aurora could react, the air around them began to tremble violently, making it hard to stand.
The man closest to the disturbance fell to the ground, looking at Shasha with uncertainty in his eyes.
At that moment, Shasha's face turned an alarming shade of dark. Her voice was as cold as ancient ice. “You locked a girl away just based on suspicion and left her to fend for herself? Even ordinary people would know to capture someone first and interrogate them before making such decisions! But you didn’t even ask?!”
As her anger surged, the tremors intensified throughout the academy and within a ten-mile radius, resembling an earthquake and causing numerous screams to erupt.
“Samal, calm down! There might still be a chance!” Charles urged anxiously. He could foresee that if Shasha's fury reached its peak, the entire area could turn into ruins and continue to spread.
Aurora snapped back to reality upon hearing Charles's words and quickly asked the nearly suffocated man under Shasha's pressure and power, “Can you still find her?”
The man now understood the gravity of the situation and nodded eagerly, fearing that if he hesitated even slightly, this terrifying individual before him would end his life. He realized he could become one of the most pitiful mutants if that happened.
Seeing him nod, Shasha’s anger gradually began to subside, and the surroundings slowly returned to calm.
A passage without the ability to oppress quickly got up and used their power, opening a light portal. In the next moment, a delicate body tumbled out, pale-faced yet still holding onto a faint breath of life.
Shasha hurriedly picked her up and turned to take her to the hospital.
However, Charles, who had just relaxed, stopped him. "You might as well let her recuperate here with me; it's better than sending her to the hospital where her identity could be discovered."
Upon hearing this, Shasha understood that Charles was trying to remedy the situation. After hesitating for a moment, he nodded in agreement.
Seeing this, Aurora took Li Qianhuan and walked out of the office while exchanging a glance with the passage.
Once the three were outside, Charles showed an apologetic expression. "I'm sorry, Samal. My people acted too recklessly."
"This isn't your fault, Professor Charles. Perhaps Qianhuan was meant to face this trial," Shasha replied. Although he resented the passage, he couldn't disregard Professor Charles's feelings. If he truly killed the passage, it would likely put him at odds with all mutant factions.
