Understanding human psychology is both difficult and simple.
If Shasha did not understand Target Eye's character, he would not be so certain that this guy was right around him.
However, Target Eye did not realize that in his eyes, Shasha posed a greater threat than the capable woman, even though Shasha lacked impressive combat skills and precise marksmanship.
In fact, neither Target Eye nor Shasha himself understood that Liquid Snake was a two-star character within the System. How could his abilities be so simple? Everything has an adaptation process, and right now, Shasha was in that process. He just needed to improve his proficiency with Liquid Snake to fully master all of Liquid Snake's abilities.
Every villain in Metal Gear is simple, especially the popular Liquid Snake among them.
Of course, Shasha was unaware of all this; he only knew that if he did not deal with Target Eye, he and Erika would never escape this wilderness. Never underestimate any opponent, especially one whose terrifying capabilities you understand deeply.
In the shadows, Target Eye quietly watched the two under the tree, fully focused and on guard. Having learned from his previous lesson, he made no sound. He was waiting for the moment Shasha would let his guard down.
Shasha knew he could not relax at this moment. The consequences of doing so were unknown, but he was certain that even if he survived, he would be severely injured. Therefore, he had to remain vigilant.
He gripped his gun tightly, showing no signs of relaxation, ready to fire at any moment.
However, sometimes even when you are fully focused, you may still fall victim to a calculated ambush because attacks can come from angles you cannot see.
Just like now, two playing cards suddenly flew through the air. Shasha saw them coming head-on while Erika was unaware from behind. He pushed Erika away and fired a shot to knock one card down. Immediately after, he dove to the side to evade the other card; however, it seemed as if the card had eyes as it spun back towards the fallen Shasha.
There was no way to avoid it. Before Shasha could even contemplate his fate, darkness enveloped him as a figure blocked this deadly strike.
Stunned, he looked at Erika's face twisted in pain before him. He could hardly believe that she had saved him. After all, their relationship was merely one of cooperation—nothing more than acquaintances.
"Why did you..."
"Stop talking and get up!" Erika said coldly, seemingly trying to change the subject.
Why save Shasha? Was it because he had saved her earlier? That was part of it, but there seemed to be another reason—she didn't want him to die. This thought made her somewhat panicked.
Getting up, Shasha resumed his vigilance but couldn't help glancing at Erika beside him. The card she had blocked lay silently on the ground, stained with her blood; she was injured—and badly.
Target Eye knew this well and sent cards flying towards Erika without hesitation.
As Shasha fired his weapon, he cursed inwardly: Did you think you were Card King?
At that moment, the young man couldn't help but feel a surge of impatience; his lack of experience was fully exposed.
Target Eye didn't have many cards to play, but injuring Shasha and Erika was more than enough. Although he was also hurt, he knew that his injuries were nowhere near as severe as those of the two below him.
"It's time," he murmured. Target Eye leaped down from the tree, kicking Erika aside with lightning speed. In the instant he landed, his right hand swiftly grasped Shasha's throat.
The sensation of suffocation hit Shasha as that large hand tightened around his windpipe, causing his face to flush red.
"You've lost," Target Eye declared, looking at the furious Erika who had just gotten back on her feet, then glancing at Shasha, who was under his control and could die at any moment. A smile spread across his face, one filled with delight and arrogance.
"Let him go!" Erika gritted her teeth, watching as Shasha struggled to breathe more and more painfully. Her heart raced with urgency.
"Let him go? That's easy," Target Eye taunted, looking at Erika like a hunter toying with its prey. "If you want me to release him, then disable your own hands, and I'll let him go!"
"No! You need to leave! Even if you do that, he won't spare me!" Shasha, fully aware of Target Eye's nature, shouted with all his might, terrified that Erika would actually comply.
Hearing Shasha's words, Erika let out a bitter laugh. She looked down at the two steel spikes in her hands, then bit her lip hard and resolutely closed her eyes as she drove them into her own hands.
Blood splattered everywhere; Shasha was stunned, ignoring the piercing laughter of Target Eye ringing in his ears.
For the first time, someone was willing to make such a sacrifice for him. In the orphanage, filled with distrust and disdain, there was no real warmth; everyone lived like cold machines following their routines.
At one point, Shasha thought he would come into this world alone and leave it alone because he lived in a world of his own. He had a conscience and didn't want to kill; perhaps it was twenty years of education that taught him this or perhaps it was his innate kindness.
Even when he injured Target Eye, he hadn't aimed for any vital spots. But at this moment, he desperately wanted to kill this guy in front of him! He didn't need this kind of kindness.
With an unknown surge of strength, Shasha forcefully pried open Target Eye's grip. The sudden force caught even Target Eye off guard as he could only watch helplessly as Shasha broke free.
In the next instant, it felt as if his close combat skills had been activated; channeling the essence of the real Liquid Snake, he struck with an elbow towards Target Eye's chest!
‘Bang!’
A dull thud echoed as Target Eye barely had time to react to the pain before a punch followed up from the elbow strike directly to his face.
In the world of Metal Gear, Liquid Snake possessed exceptional close combat abilities. If anyone could surpass him in that regard, it would be the greatest boss of the entire series known as bigbss—Liquid Snake himself.
At this moment, awakened by the fighting prowess of Liquid Snake, Shasha was no longer just an assistant who relied on a handgun.
The relentless strikes landed precisely on the shoulder blade of Target Eye, the spot where he had once been shot.
The piercing pain and the humiliation of being utterly defenseless caused the proud Target Eye to faint from the shame and rage, surpassing his limits.
The final punch struck Target Eye's heart with such force that it not only sent him flying but also made it seem as if he had lost his breath entirely as he crashed to the ground.
Breathing heavily, Shasha maintained his fighting stance. After the fury came a calmness, and he hurried to check on Erika's condition.
His hands were stained with blood, and the steel spikes lay on the ground, appearing lifeless and drooping.
It seemed as if something was about to burst from his eyes. Looking at the smile on Erika's face, Shasha suddenly felt a surge of anger. "I let you go! Why did you have to do this!?"
Erika paid no mind to Shasha's fury, her smile unusually sweet. "At least we won, didn't we?"
