On a chirping afternoon, four friends sat in the outdoor seating area of a convenience store, leisurely sipping on their freshly bought cold drinks and chatting away.
"I'm so bored... Is there any interesting news lately?" A Qiang lazily spoke up.
"I heard that the girls from Class Three had a mixer with boys from the neighboring school, but they ended up fighting because they couldn't stand each other," Xiao Lin immediately chimed in with a gossiping spirit.
A Guan grimaced and spat, "Hmph! A bunch of idiots. The girls from Class Three are all tough as nails. Those nerds must be out of their minds to agree to a mixer with them. So who won?"
"Both sides ended up getting beaten and went home to complain, which even got their parents involved and caused a ruckus at school. But in the end, it seems like nothing came of it," Xiao Lin shrugged helplessly.
"Ugh, after hearing that, I feel even more bored... Xiao Hua, do you have any fun news?" A Qiang glanced over at the person next to him who was absorbed in his phone.
"Oh, I just happened to see a game recently that I want to try. Do you guys want to play with me?" Xiao Hua asked.
"A mobile game? No thanks. Aren't you afraid of going blind staring at the screen all day?" A Qiang rejected without a second thought.
"No, it's a game similar to Urban Legend, but it requires four people to play. Luckily, we have four here," Xiao Hua explained.
"What game is it?" Xiao Lin asked curiously.
"Have you heard of the Four Corners Game?" Xiao Hua began to elaborate—
First, each person stands in one of the four corners of a room. Starting from one person, they walk over to the corner where another person is standing and tap that person's shoulder. Then that person goes on to tap the next person's shoulder in sequence. When it reaches the fourth person, they will find themselves at an empty corner. At this point, they need to cough as a signal and then continue to the next corner to tap another person's shoulder. After repeating this several times, they will unknowingly realize that the coughing sound has disappeared—
Because there is one more person...
"How could they not notice!" A Qiang exclaimed. "Isn't it always the last person who ends up missing? If he suddenly ran into someone, wouldn't he find it strange?"
"No, it should be taking turns because the new round starts with the last person moving forward! So it makes sense that they take turns missing," Xiao Lin explained.
"Why argue about it when we can just play a round and see what happens?" A Guan shrugged.
"So, how about it? Do you guys want to play?" Xiao Hua asked.
"Even if we want to play, we don't have a place to do it, right? Who has an empty room?" A Qiang glanced at his friends. "Just so you know, I don't have a room that can clear out four corners!"
"I can't do it either," Xiao Lin said.
"It seems like finding a suitable place to play this game isn't easy..." Xiao Hua pondered.
"How about the rooftop of your building?" Xiao Lin suggested, pointing at Xiao Hua.
"No way, the people living on the top floor won't allow anyone up there. They say walking around on the roof will disturb them, so they've locked the door to the rooftop," Xiao Hua said helplessly.
"Wow! That's really unreasonable; can't we report them?"
"Currently, all the residents in our building prefer to keep things peaceful... but that's not the point. Do you have any other suggestions?"
"Do you guys know about that abandoned house down the side road off XX Road?" A Guan suddenly said.
"Oh, you mean the unfinished one? But it's really creepy there! I heard it was abandoned because something happened back then..." Xiao Lin hesitated.
"Isn't the point of playing an Urban Legend game to make it as creepy as possible? That's what sets the mood!" A Guan said dismissively.
"Creepiness aside, I'm more worried about homeless people being inside... How about we check it out first?" Xiao Hua suggested.
"Alright! Let's go!"
"Huh? Are you guys really going to do this?" A Qiang looked stunned.
"Weren't you just complaining about being bored? I went out of my way to find you some fun! Hurry up and catch up!" Xiao Hua waved him over.
"What kind of fun is this? Clearly, you just want to play!" A Qiang rolled his eyes and reluctantly followed.
