Despite my attempts to keep quiet, the Sun Warrior Leader heard me. "So, how is the food here? Isn't it delicious?" he asked casually.
My mouth was stuffed with tender, juicy meat, making it impossible for me to respond. After forcing myself to swallow, I patted my now bulging belly and asked, "What kind of meat is this? Why do I feel like I've never tasted anything like it before..."
Eventually, I had to put down my chopsticks because I simply couldn't eat anymore.
The Sun Warrior Leader replied nonchalantly, "It's dragon meat."
I was taken aback for a moment, then recalled a saying: "Dragon meat on the table, donkey meat on the ground." Could he be referring to donkey meat?
Realizing this brought me some relief. Although I had tasted many delicacies before, I had indeed never tried donkey meat. Now that I did, it was incredibly delicious. However, when I turned to look at my parents beside me, they hadn't touched their food at all; they were just staring at the dishes with furrowed brows.
I asked, "Mom and Dad, what's wrong? Why aren't you eating? Be careful not to starve yourselves."
My father shook his head. "I'm not hungry; it's nothing..." His voice was low, as if he were troubled by something.
Seeing this, I decided not to press further. I thought it best to get them out of here first. So I said to the Sun Warrior Leader, "Since I've already agreed to join you and shared a meal with you, I'll take my parents and leave now." With that, I stood up to leave.
The Sun Warrior Leader paused and set down his utensils. "It's midnight now, and we're in a remote area. It might not be safe for you to leave right away. It's better for you to stay here; after all, your parents are getting older. It wouldn't be good if something happened to them."
Upon hearing this, it was clear he didn't want me to go. He hadn't mentioned anything about transportation when we arrived.
"Shen," he continued, "I'm doing this for your own good. Since I've sincerely invited you to join us and provided you with the truth you wanted, why would I harm you? Just stay here peacefully."
"Er Ye!"
With the shout of the Sun Warrior Leader, Er Ye, who had been standing behind him, hurriedly stepped forward, slightly bending at the waist in a respectful manner as he replied, "Yes, Father."
"It's getting late. Take Shen's parents back to their room to rest. The old folks need their rest for their health," he added.
After finishing his words, Er Ye nodded and approached my parents. "Please, esteemed elders," he said.
Seeing this, my parents sighed softly and slowly stood up, preparing to leave.
At that moment, I thought to myself, "Well, since you're not afraid of me uncovering anything here, then I have nothing to fear either. Once you enter the tiger's den, how can you avoid being bitten by the tiger?" With that in mind, I decided to follow Er Ye and my parents as they left.
Just as I reached the Sun Warrior Leader's side, unexpectedly, he stopped me with a firm hand. "Shen, I've arranged another room for you. That is where you should be staying."
I glanced at him and replied, "I haven't seen my parents in a while. Can't I stay and chat with them for a bit?"
The Sun Warrior Leader smiled. "You misunderstand me. It's only natural to want to accompany your parents, but I have some matters I wish to discuss with you privately. Why don't we talk first and then you can join them?"
Hesitating for a moment, I turned to my parents and said, "Mom, Dad, you go ahead. I'll join you shortly."
My father didn't respond but let out a long sigh. He patted my shoulder before following Er Ye through a door on the left side of the hall.
"What is it that you want to discuss?" I asked as I stood beside the formally seated Sun Warrior Leader.
He smiled and gestured for me to sit down in a nearby chair. "This concerns your friends. I know they are currently in the hands of Shidao, and you must be worried about them. How about we rescue your friends first and then eliminate Shidao? What do you think?"
The Sun Warrior Leader's eyes sparkled with a glimmer of determination, indicating that his desire to eliminate the Slayers was not a trivial matter. However, for some reason, he seemed unable to take action himself and appeared to want to enlist my help this time.
Understanding this, I resolved to be cautious. I thought to myself, "I must not act recklessly this time. If I trust him too easily and end up harming the innocent, I would regret it for a lifetime, and I could find myself in an even more dangerous situation."
With this in mind, I feigned hesitation and said, "I have encountered the leader of the Slayers before; his strength is extraordinary, and I fear I am no match for him. Why don’t we first deal with the Xinzhu you have and the other two Onizuka? Once I gain some power, we can plan our next move."
This was merely a delaying tactic on my part. I wanted to buy time to verify his intentions while also hoping to leverage Yang Master’s assistance to eliminate the Onizuka and gain strength.
I expected the Sun Warrior Leader to become suspicious of me, but surprisingly, he remained calm. He picked up two nearby goblets and instructed his attendant to pour wine into them.
"Let’s proceed with your plan. We will eliminate the remaining three Onizuka first, then figure out our next steps. Come, let’s toast to your plan..." He handed me one of the goblets.
As I reached out to take it, I noticed a subtle ripple in the wine, spreading slowly from the center outward as if something had been dropped into it.
Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t have thought much of it. But given that the person handing me the goblet was the leader of Yang Master, it was likely he had tampered with it.
So at that moment, as I grasped the goblet, my fingers subtly opened, allowing it to slip from my hand...
With a sharp sound of shattering glass, the goblet broke on the floor, spilling crimson wine everywhere.
"I’m sorry, sorry! I got distracted," I explained quickly.
The Sun Warrior Leader glanced at me and smirked slightly. "No worries; just drink from my cup. I'll pour myself another," he said as he offered me his own goblet.
Taking the cup, I thought to myself, this should be fine now...
After a moment, when the Sun Warrior Leader poured another cup of wine, he raised it in front of me and said, "To the plan."
I quickly raised my own cup to meet his and echoed, "To the plan."
Without hesitation, the Sun Warrior Leader brought the cup to his lips and drank it all in one go.
After finishing, he noticed that I was still holding my cup without drinking and asked, "What's wrong? Do you think I've poisoned the wine?" His expression gradually darkened.
Worried that he might become suspicious, especially since my parents were here with me, I knew I couldn't afford any consequences if he decided to act. So, I tilted my head back and downed half a glass of red wine.
As soon as the wine entered my stomach, a wave of intense dizziness hit me, and my body began to lose balance, leaning to one side. At that moment, I vaguely felt the Sun Warrior Leader reach out to support me. "Shen, how can you handle your liquor so poorly? If I had known, I wouldn't have let you drink..." Then everything went black, and I fainted.
