"Please don't say that. You've already helped us a great deal. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have made it this far. We might have been taken out by Yang Master's people long ago," I comforted Death Apostle.
"You don't need to comfort me. I know my worth, and I also understand what you all have done for me. I'm grateful, but I want to do something for you as well..."
Seeing Death Apostle develop feelings similar to those of Hu Fang earlier, I pondered for a moment and said, "Actually, you've already helped us a lot. We still need your assistance in finding a way to break the 'Divine Anomalies Classic: Nine Star Life and Death Diagram.'"
Death Apostle nodded silently after hearing this and said softly, "I will do my best."
"I appreciate it," I replied, patting Death Apostle on the shoulder.
At that moment, Hu Fang pulled out his phone to check the time and asked us, "Have you eaten yet? It's almost dinner time."
Hearing about food made my stomach growl involuntarily. "Not yet. I haven't eaten anything since I got up this morning."
"Then I'll go get you something to eat. We can talk after we finish."
"Okay," I nodded in agreement.
"Alright, I'll go cook. What do you all want to eat?" With that, Hu Fang stood up, rolled up his sleeves, and headed toward the kitchen.
"Anything is fine..." I also got up. "I'll help you cook."
Seeing me go to help, Death Apostle quickly stood up as well and followed me into the kitchen.
The three of us busied ourselves in the kitchen, and before long, a table full of delicious dishes was laid out before us. As we sat at the dining table, Hu Fang asked, "Should we call Li Zhisheng to join us?"
"Let him sleep a bit longer. He didn't get any rest last night. We'll save some for him to eat when he wakes up," I said as I picked up my chopsticks and began eating without hesitation.
After dinner, noticing that Yao Long still hadn't returned made me slightly worried. After all, he had gone out for an investigation without needing to find a specific destination; with his abilities, he should have been back by now.
"Yao Long hasn't run into any troublesome situations again, has he?" I asked Hu Fang and Death Apostle, my mind completely off the television program.
"This time the situation is somewhat complex, but there shouldn't be any major risks involved. I think Yao Long just wants to investigate thoroughly, which is why he's taking a bit longer," Death Apostle replied.
"Let's hope that's the case."
After that, we chatted about some trivial matters to ease the tension brought on by the recent series of events. As our conversation continued, time slipped away, and before we knew it, it was eleven o'clock at night.
Hu Fang yawned and said, "Are you all still waiting for Yao Long?"
"Yeah, let's wait a bit longer. If you're tired, you can go to sleep first. Just remember to sleep in my room," I replied.
Hu Fang nodded and got up to head toward my room. "Then I'll go to sleep now. Good night." With that, she entered the room alone.
Just as Hu Fang stepped inside, the door to Li Zhisheng's room opened. He rubbed his stomach and looked at me and Death Apostle, saying, "Is there anything to eat?"
"Here, I saved some for you. Heat it up and eat," I pointed to the food on the dining table. "Just remember to wash the dishes afterward."
To my surprise, Li Zhisheng sighed, "Ah, my life is tough; I only have leftovers to eat."
"If you don't want to eat that, I can make something fresh for you..." I started to stand up and head to the kitchen when Li Zhisheng raised his hand to stop me. "No, no, it's fine. I was just joking. I'll manage with this. You all go rest; I'll clean up after I'm done."
Hearing this, Death Apostle chimed in, "Shen Xu, you should go rest. I'll wait for Yao Long. Besides, you still need to remove the mark later; you need your rest."
At that moment, my mind was occupied with thoughts of the ghost in Hu Fang's room; I wondered what it really was. "Alright then, since you're up too, I'll head to bed first. Just in case, come over quickly after you're done eating."
"I almost forgot about that..." Li Zhisheng quickened his eating pace. "You go ahead; I'll be right there."
"Okay." I agreed and walked toward Hu Fang's room.
Entering the room, I noticed the only window was indeed blocked tightly by a chair as Hu Fang had said. Behind the chair was a table used to prevent it from moving.
Seeing this, I moved the table and chair away from the window and pulled the curtains shut so that if anything came in, I'd be able to notice immediately.
"What did Hu Fang really see?" I muttered to myself as I lay down on her bed. The moment I settled in, a refreshing fragrance enveloped me, making me feel incredibly relaxed and comfortable.
At that moment, I felt no unusual sensations—just the perfect temperature, the fragrant aroma, and the dim light filtering in from outside the door—all of it made me feel drowsy.
Before long, my eyelids began to grow heavy; my vision started to blur as my consciousness drifted away from my body.
Unknowingly, I fell asleep...
In my dream, I vaguely felt the window creak open slowly as if something was pushing it. A gentle breeze swept in through the open window. Just as Hu Fang described, with the influx of this wind, I felt the temperature in the room drop sharply, as if I were plunged into the depths of winter. I could distinctly sense that there was something like a large block of ice beneath my bed, sending waves of cold air through the floorboards straight to my spine.
"Ha!" I gasped, suddenly awakening from my drowsy state, rubbing my icy arms and body with my hands.
"It's really cold; how could it be like this..." I murmured, glancing around the room but not seeing Li Zhisheng anywhere. I wondered to myself, "How much food could he possibly eat? Why hasn't he come back yet?"
As I thought about this, I looked toward the window and saw that the tightly shut window had been blown open by the wind. The curtains were pushed aside, fluttering gently in the breeze, swaying rhythmically.
At that moment, the surroundings were eerily silent. Apart from the faint rustling of the curtains, all I could hear was the sound of my own heartbeat.
Just as my eyes scanned the room warily, I suddenly felt a strong and cold hand reach out from the foot of the bed, gripping my legs tightly.
"Who!" I exclaimed in shock, trying to sit up and see what it was. But at that moment, I realized that my body was completely immobilized, as if something heavy was pressing down on my chest, making even breathing difficult...
