Hearing the voice of the Void Spirit, I wanted to escape, but surrounded by darkness, I had no idea where to hide; I didn't even know what was around me. In my panic, I froze in place.
Just when I felt a sense of impending doom, I sensed a strong Killing Intent approaching from behind, accompanied by a nauseating stench. "From behind?!" I quickly sidestepped and dropped to the ground.
As I fell, a foul wind swept past me with such speed that I barely had time to react.
Having avoided the attack, I hurriedly got back on my feet, just in time to hear the Void Spirit say to me, "Don't use your eyes; use your other senses to perceive what's around you!"
Upon hearing this, I dared not hesitate. Slowly, I closed my eyes and listened intently to the movements around me, using my body to feel the presence of everything nearby.
At first, closing my eyes only brought forth the fear of darkness. But gradually, I began to sense the movements of the poisonous insects. The sensations became clearer and clearer until I could "see" those hidden in the dark as well as the location of the Void Spirit.
To my astonishment, I realized that there were not just a few poisonous insects; they were countless—thousands upon thousands. At that moment, the Void Spirit was surrounded by these insects, fighting fiercely among them.
"I see them! I can see them!" I shouted to the Void Spirit.
"Good! Now there's only one thing you can do: run! Run fast and avoid those damned bugs! I'll finish up here and come help you!"
Without hesitation, I took off running. At that moment, I didn't care where I was going; all that mattered was that I ran for my life.
Suddenly, I felt something wrap around my foot, and with a grunt, I fell heavily to the ground. "What... what is this..." Turning back to look, I saw a giant spider rapidly crawling toward me; it was its web that had tripped me.
Realizing the danger, I cursed under my breath and tried to tear away the web from my leg. But no matter how hard I pulled, the web was stronger than steel and wouldn't budge.
"Get up and run! Don't just stand there!" The Void Spirit shouted from a distance upon seeing me fall. Panic surged within me as I thought, "Damn it, I'd love to run too, but I'm stuck!"
I yelled back at him, "I'm caught in a spider's web! I can't move!"
As soon as I spoke, the spider shot out another strand of silk from its rear end, instantly binding my body and arms together. Now completely immobilized, I watched helplessly as the spider drew closer.
At that moment, I looked up and saw the enormous spider spreading its eight legs, thicker than my thighs, looming over me, its grotesque mouth inching closer.
As the spider's mouth was about to touch me, I steeled my heart and thought, "Well, if I'm going to die, I might as well consider it a disgusting dream..."
But just as I was about to succumb to despair, Void Spirit suddenly shouted, "Useless!" Immediately after, a Slash Mark shot toward me at high speed. In an instant, I heard a whoosh as the Slash Mark flew over my head and sliced the spider in half. A foul liquid gushed out, splattering all over my face.
"Why are you so useless..." At that moment, Void Spirit had rushed to my side. He lifted me up and cut the webbing off my body with his hand. "Listen, this is no ordinary dream. Did you provoke something?!"
Hearing his question reminded me of the situation with Worm King, and I quickly explained it to him in brief. After listening, Void Spirit appeared somewhat puzzled. "I don't know what your Worm King is, but it sounds like it might be significant..."
Then, Void Spirit extended a hand in front of me, fingers straightened. "Listen, no matter what your opponent is or how powerful they are, you'll only know if you can win by fighting... Right now, even though I've separated from you, we are still in your dream. You need to understand one thing: you are the master of this dream. Don't be deceived by appearances! Your heart is your eye; your hand is your blade!"
With that, Void Spirit charged fearlessly into the tide of poisonous insects. I stood there, unsure of what he meant by his last words, but I remembered one thing he said: "I am the master here!"
I muttered to myself as hope ignited within me. At that moment, a white light burst forth from where I stood. The light rapidly expanded, incinerating all the poisonous insects in its path.
Seeing that they could not approach me at all, the remaining insects hurriedly scattered and vanished into the darkness. Just then, I noticed a figure ahead of me. He was about my height, dressed in an ancient white Long Robe, embroidered with black You Long. His long black hair fell down on both sides of his face and draped over his shoulders; his build was neither too fat nor too thin but exuded an extraordinary aura.
"Could this be the appearance of Void Spirit?!" I wondered since he had not raised his head and I couldn't see his face clearly.
Out of curiosity, I stepped closer and tentatively asked, "Are you Void Spirit?!"
He did not respond but kept his head slightly bowed...
Seeing this, I continued to walk forward slowly... But at that moment, I suddenly felt a voice calling out to me in my mind: "Hey, wake up! Wake up!"
The voice was very familiar and gradually pulled me from my dream into consciousness.
I opened my bleary eyes and looked around, only to see Li Zhisheng beside me, shaking me repeatedly.
"What's wrong? Is it time?" I asked.
Li Zhisheng glanced at the sleeping Hu Fang and Yao Long nearby and whispered, "Yes, it's your turn. You didn't feel anything unusual while you were sleeping, did you?"
Hearing this, I suddenly remembered the dream I had just experienced. Although memories of dreams fade quickly after waking up, I could still recall many details clearly since I had just awakened.
So, I recounted everything I had seen in the dream to Li Zhisheng. After listening, he was momentarily stunned before exclaiming, "Could it be that the so-called Worm King kills people within their consciousness?!"
I thought for a moment. "That shouldn't be the case..." I hesitated. "Because when I saw the hotel owner's corpse earlier, I noticed a lot of poisonous insects crawling out of her mouth. It seemed like something had been implanted inside her..."
Before I could finish my sentence, I noticed that Hu Fang, who had been sleeping beside us, slowly opened her tightly shut mouth. A very thin centipede began to crawl out from her lips...
