On the other side, Jiang Xi and Huai'an Princess took their seats in the elegant room. Jiang Xi raised her hand to signal Wenxin to sit down and instructed a maid to serve tea.
Huai'an Princess, with a concerned expression, asked, "Is Master Wenxin comfortable telling us what King Qin wanted with you? He seems to have come with ill intentions. But if it's inconvenient for you to share, we won't press."
Wenxin smiled calmly and replied, "There's nothing inconvenient about it. King Qin has taken a liking to me and wants me to be his male consort."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Xi frowned slightly and asked, "Does King Qin have a penchant for such things?"
Wenxin maintained his gentle smile and patiently explained, "Preferences vary from person to person. Perhaps he didn't originally have such inclinations; it might just be that my appearance has led him to think this way."
Huai'an Princess snapped back to attention, looking at Wenxin in surprise. "Did you agree to him?"
Wenxin remained unperturbed, offering a faint smile as he said, "If it weren't for Little Princess and Lady Jiang coming to my aid in time, I might have actually agreed."
Huai'an Princess immediately grew anxious, raising her voice. "Master Wenxin is the pillar of Qingyin Pavilion; how could you lower yourself to be a male consort?"
After her initial panic, she couldn't help but feel indignant on Wenxin's behalf. "King Qin's outrageous request is simply too much."
Wenxin held his teacup, casting a relaxed glance at Huai'an Princess as he softly said, "Little Princess need not be upset; isn't everything fine now?"
However, the worry on Huai'an Princess's face was unmistakable as she said, "It's fine this time, but what if King Qin comes again next time? You wouldn't truly compromise, would you?"
Wenxin lowered his gaze with a faint smile and replied leisurely, "It depends on the situation."
Jiang Xi sat nearby, observing Wenxin with a thoughtful expression, feeling an odd sensation stirring within her. She pondered silently; it seemed that Master Wenxin wasn't particularly angry about King Qin's inappropriate thoughts.
If he had not been forced into King Qin's Mansion in his past life, then what was the true reason for killing King Qin? Wenxin pretended not to notice the deep contemplation in Jiang Xi's eyes and smiled, saying, "Thank you both for your assistance. Let me sing a song for you."
Meanwhile, at the training grounds of the royal mansion, Fong Yang stood in a black robe, his posture rigid and solemn as he observed the guards practicing.
Yin Ye hurried over to report, "My lord, King Qin requests an audience."
Fong Yang paused for a moment before responding, "Let him come in."
A moment later, King Qin approached and bowed respectfully at the training ground, saying, "Gao Rui pays his respects to Uncle Emperor."
Fong Yang glanced at him with an expressionless face and coldly asked, "What do you want?"
Feigning difficulty, King Qin replied, "Reporting to Uncle Emperor, I just went to Qingyin Pavilion to listen to a performance and happened to see Miss Jiang Xi from the Prime Minister's Residence. I was worried that a young lady like her might suffer outside, so I came to inquire with Uncle Emperor."
Upon hearing this, Fong Yang frowned slightly, feeling an impulse to give King Qin a good beating.
However, King Qin misinterpreted Fong Yang's expression. He thought that the Regent truly did not know Jiang Xi had gone to the theater and mused that no one would allow their future princess to casually expose herself in such a place.
Thinking this way, he sincerely added, "Uncle Emperor must not misunderstand. Perhaps Lady Jiang simply enjoys the songs sung by Master Wenxin too much and had someone invite him to a private room to sing just for her."
He felt quite pleased with himself for sharing this news with the Regent. It would serve to separate him from Jiang Xi while also pleasing the Regent—beneficial for himself in every way.
Yin Ye silently regarded him as foolish and thought to himself that King Qin was deliberately trying to slander Lady Jiang's reputation and provoke misunderstandings with the prince.
Fong Yang narrowed his eyes, a glint of coldness flashing within them as he asked icily, "You came here specifically to tell me this? Jiang Yue is foolish; I didn't expect that the dignified King Qin would be even more foolish. The two of you are collaborating to drag Jiang Xi from the clouds down into hell."
King Qin rushed to Fong Yang's side and deliberately said, "Jiang Xi has gone to her private room for a solo performance with Master Wenxin. I'm worried that Lady Jiang might be in danger, so I came to inform Uncle Emperor." He added, "Before coming here, I left guards to watch over the main hall of the theater, just in case."
Fong Yang, upon hearing this, asked indifferently, "Who did she go with?"
King Qin felt increasingly certain that there was something going on. He thought to himself that the Regent truly didn't know about Jiang Xi's visit to Qingyin Pavilion. He didn't mention Huai'an Princess and shook his head, saying, "I didn't see who she was with; I only noticed she had two maidservants with her."
Fong Yang looked at King Qin, his tone as cold as ice. "You didn't recognize those two maidservants? Let me tell you, they are Shadow Guards from my household, capable enough to ensure Jiang Xi's safety. Moreover, Jiang Xi is my woman; her whereabouts and safety are not your concern. You should focus on your own matters. A dignified King Qin shouldn't behave like a gossiping old woman."
King Qin felt as if he wanted to find a hole to hide in. He finally realized that the fool was himself and began to harbor resentment towards Jiang Yue.
That woman left the training ground in disgrace, and Yin Ye couldn't help but roll her eyes, secretly mocking how such lowly tricks dared to be played in front of her lord.
She should first go learn what palace intrigue is from the concubines in the harem!
Meanwhile, at Qingyin Pavilion, someone knocked on Jiang Xi's private room. A strange maid bowed and said, "My lady has heard that Little Princess is here and has sent me to invite Little Princess for a private conversation."
Huai'an Princess looked up in surprise at the unfamiliar maid and asked, "Who is your lady?"
The maid shook her head and replied, "My lady said you would know once you arrive."
Huai'an Princess sneered and said, "Trying to act mysterious in front of me? I'm not some random person who can be summoned at will. Tell your lady that if she wants to see me, she should come herself. Whether I want to meet her or not is something I need to consider."
Upon hearing this, the maid glanced cautiously at Jiang Xi and Wenxin before saying, "My lady is actually someone you know; it's just inconvenient for her to speak with you here."
Jiang Xi had already seen through this ploy and smiled at Huai'an Princess. "If there's something urgent, go ahead. Don't worry about me; I'll wait here for you. If you're concerned, you can bring Han Shuang along."
The Huai'an Princess, though willful, was not dull-witted. Upon hearing this, she instinctively glanced at Wenxin and hesitated before saying, "How about we go together?"
Jiang Xi shook her head with a faint smile and replied, "I won't go. They clearly only want to see you; my presence would only be a nuisance."
After thinking for a moment, the Huai'an Princess stood up and said, "Alright, I'll be back soon."
Jiang Xi then instructed Han Shuang to follow her for protection and silently watched them leave.
Once outside the door, Wenxin lifted his teacup and smiled lightly, saying, "Lady Jiang seems to have guessed who is playing tricks."
Jiang Xi chuckled and nodded slightly, "Such clumsy tactics; it's obvious who it is."
"Speaking of which, there's something I've wanted to ask you for a while. Are you perhaps affiliated with Regent Fong Yang?"
Wenxin shook his head and replied, "No."
Jiang Xi felt a weight in her heart and pondered aloud, "If not, then why did Fong Yang seem so familiar when he mentioned him?"
Wenxin looked at Jiang Xi with a smile that hinted at concern and asked, "Is the Regent good to you? Do you truly like him?"
Though Jiang Xi felt somewhat puzzled, she still nodded and said, "The Regent is very good to me."
