I stared at him blankly, feeling as if something had pricked my heart, a dull pain settling in, my eyes filled with sorrow.
Unconsciously, I pushed and rubbed his body again and again, my hands trembling slightly as I murmured, "Nerd, wake up. I'll always cook for you from now on." As I spoke, my body leaned forward instinctively.
"Nerd, don’t sleep. I’ll forever wash your clothes." My hands moved with increasing urgency.
"Nerd, please don’t die. I’ll do whatever you ask me to..." My voice caught in my throat.
"Is what Liuli said true?"
Suddenly, a calm voice broke the silence, startling me so much that I nearly jumped back, my body jolting.
Looking at the gentle smile of the Nerd sitting up in bed, I was stunned for a moment before exclaiming, "You’re alive!" My eyes widened in terror.
"Liuli, why not touch me again to see if I'm dead or alive?" The Nerd raised an eyebrow at me, his expression oddly playful, a slight smirk on his lips.
So, I reached out again, slowly brushing my fingers against his face; it was warm to the touch. I checked his breath; it was steady. Still not reassured, I pressed my ear against his chest to listen for his heartbeat—it was lively.
Every sign confirmed that the Die-hard Nerd was still alive! "Well?"
The Nerd tilted his head at me, smiling lightly, a hint of teasing in his gaze.
I continued to stare at him in a daze, and after a long while, tears as big as beans fell unexpectedly, sliding down my cheeks.
Nerd was taken aback, his smile fading as he furrowed his brows slightly. He raised his hand gently to wipe away my tears, his movements tender.
Yet, just as the old tears were wiped away, new ones fell like a string of beads.
He couldn't help but sigh softly, "Liuli, it was my fault. Don't cry..." His voice was filled with compassion.
Did I cry? Can demons cry too? I raised my hand to touch my face and realized it was wet, but I still couldn't stop the tears, gently wiping my face with my hand.
I didn't know what I was feeling at that moment; I only understood that when I realized Nerd was alive, the heavy stone that had been blocking my heart suddenly fell away. I was overwhelmed with joy, filled with relief and happiness at having survived a disaster.
For six hundred years, I had seen all kinds of human emotions and witnessed the love between men and women. I wasn't just an ignorant Little Demon.
So at this moment, I vaguely understood why I felt this way...
I... had unknowingly fallen for Die-hard Nerd!
"Liuli, why aren't you speaking? Are you upset because I pretended to be dead to tease you?" Nerd squinted at me, his gaze probing.
That's right, pretending to be dead! If he knew about that, could it be that he also knew about Weasel Spirit coming to absorb his essence? No, no... Could it be that he saw everything when I was fighting Weasel Spirit just now?! Then he must know I'm not human?!
I looked at him in confusion, my heart in turmoil, unsure of what to do. Suddenly, Nerd seemed to sense something. His gaze sharpened as he waved his long sleeve towards me. I felt an inexplicable darkness envelop me, and my vision dimmed until all I could see were Nerd's feet...
I looked up in surprise, only to see Nerd bending down to pick up my furry body, cradling me gently in his arms.
Wait?! I was transformed back to my original form by Nerd!
Before I could recover from my shock, a person suddenly burst into the room, dressed in a familiar blue and white robe, a sword slung across his back. He clasped his hands together and said, "I am a Disciple of Shu Mountain. I sensed demonic energy here and came to capture the demon!"
With that, his gaze fixed on me in Nerd's arms, and his brows furrowed. "Be careful, young man; what you are holding is a Fox Demon!"
