Xu Zhuzhu frowned, not expecting such a situation to arise. Jiang Chen, though clearly very young, carried himself with an air of confidence that was frankly quite jarring and uncomfortable.
"Mr. Jiang, I think it's best if you don't bet with Manager Du. It's completely unnecessary. Meeting in a foreign land is already a matter of fate; why create an unpleasant situation? Moreover, the Eastern Deity Shrine is a place that should be as solemn and dignified as our Huaxia Temple's Great Hall of Great Hero. If you were to go there and speak disrespectfully about the deities, it would be inappropriate both morally and logically," Xu Zhuzhu advised earnestly. She was beginning to feel some resentment towards Jiang Chen; he was far too reckless and never considered the consequences of his actions.
Jiang Chen smiled but offered no explanation.
"Zhu Zhu, just ignore him and watch how he ends up," Qian Xinyi said, pulling Xu Zhuzhu aside with a cold laugh.
Xu Zhuzhu sighed softly, chewing her food slowly with little appetite, while Jiang Chen and Tengye Kikuko enjoyed their meal, seemingly taking charge of the situation.
"This Jiang fellow talks big, but it's a pity his manner of eating has betrayed him. Just look at him; he probably has never had such good food in his life," Qian Xinyi remarked without holding back, her eyes filled with disdain.
Jiang Chen paid no attention to her and continued eating.
"Manager Du, aren't we supposed to go to the Eastern Deity Shrine? Let's go," Jiang Chen called out to Du Guanghua after finishing his meal.
"Alright, let's go check out the Eastern Deity Shrine," Du Guanghua replied without hesitation. He was now placing all his hopes on the Eastern Deity, wishing either that it truly did not exist or that it would take care of Jiang Chen for him.
"I think I’ll skip it," Qian Xinyi said, not really believing in the Demon God. She had only pretended to agree earlier to please Du Guanghua, but now that it was time to actually go, she felt a bit scared.
"We should at least take a look," Du Guanghua insisted, wanting Xu Zhuzhu and Qian Xinyi to accompany him to see how Jiang Chen would dig his own grave.
"Manager Du is right; my bet with him also needs witnesses. You two should come along as well. It’ll be fine; as long as I'm there, even if the Eastern Deity shows up, it won't harm you," Jiang Chen said with a smile.
"Then let's go take a look," Xu Zhuzhu said. Although she felt some fear inside, her curiosity outweighed it. Jiang Chen's behavior was too unusual; she wanted to know what kind of ability he had that made him willing to provoke the Eastern Deity.
"Zhu Zhu, aren't you scared?" Qian Xinyi still seemed worried.
"There's nothing to be afraid of. We're tourists going to pay our respects to the Eastern Deity; why would it harm us? Besides, if Mr. Jiang isn't afraid, why should we be?" Xu Zhuzhu said, raising her spirits.
In the end, Du Guanghua, Xu Zhuzhu, Qian Xinyi, and Tengye Kikuko followed Jiang Chen toward the Eastern Deity Shrine. Located deep within Mount Buddha, it would take several hours on foot to reach.
The stone path through the mountains basked in winter sunlight. The snow-capped peaks and unique island nation architecture were indeed picturesque. Moreover, being close to the sea allowed spiritual energy from the ocean breeze to flow into Mount Buddha. While outsiders could not see it, Jiang Chen could perceive that most of the spiritual energy in this area had been absorbed by the Eastern Deity Shrine.
Although spiritual energy on Earth was thin, one could still cultivate using it to break through foundational levels. The Eastern Deity had existed for thousands of years; its strength was certainly not to be underestimated. Furthermore, evil cultivators typically possessed greater power than righteous ones.
