"Ah! I'm so sorry, Manager Ma, I'll clean it up right away," Li Niannian said, her voice trembling as she looked at Manager Ma, her body shaking with fear.
"Which department are you from? Do you even understand the rules? Have you lost your mind? You must have been raised without any manners, causing more trouble than you can handle!"
Fuming, Manager Ma grabbed Li Niannian and twisted her arm painfully. "You little brat, you should know your own worth! Do you have any idea how important these documents are? Look at them, all wrinkled because of you!"
"I just..." Li Niannian lowered her head, tears streaming down her face like a broken string of pearls. The pain in her arm made her bite her lip, trying to hold back the hurt.
"What? Trying to scare me with your tears? Who are you crying for?"
Suddenly, Manager Ma let out a pained scream as Xu Yuandao pried her hand away.
Before Li Niannian could react, she found herself enveloped in Xu Yuandao's embrace.
His face was pale, and his hawk-like eyes narrowed as he glared at the stunned woman in front of him, his gaze burning with fury.
"Manager Ma, who gave you the authority to physically reprimand an employee?" His voice was deep and authoritative, leaving no room for doubt.
"I..." Manager Ma stammered, momentarily at a loss for words.
"She has already apologized for her mistake; there’s no need to escalate this further. If the leadership lacks this level of tolerance, I seriously doubt your capability to serve as the HR manager."
His words were clear and precise, yet the underlying threat was palpable.
Manager Ma's face drained of color as she nodded repeatedly at Xu Yuandao in acknowledgment of her oversight before hastily disappearing without a trace.
Unexpectedly, the Manager stood up for her like this!
Li Niannian was momentarily speechless with emotion, only able to convey her admiration through tear-filled eyes, her gaze full of gratitude and respect.
"Fool! You just know how to cry when someone bullies you," Xu Yuandao said helplessly, shaking his head gently.
"Well, it’s actually my fault too... Anyway, thank you," Li Niannian sniffled, wiping her tears with her hand.
Even as the victim, she still made excuses for the perpetrator—truly hopelessly foolish. Xu Yuandao glared at her sternly, and Li Niannian dared not speak, lowering her head like a student being scolded by a teacher, afraid to make a sound.
"Listen to me," Xu Yuandao said seriously, his eyes fixed intently on Li Niannian.
Li Niannian blinked her big eyes at him, and then the Manager uttered words that made her want to spit blood.
"You are not allowed to be bullied by anyone else except me! Do you understand?" He flashed a self-satisfied smile, but there was a hint of dominance in his gaze.
Is he serious?!
Manager, there should be limits to your teasing. Am I really destined to be bullied by you?
"Why?" She felt so innocent, completely bewildered as to why the big bad wolf had set its sights on her, this little socialist lamb, her eyes filled with confusion.
"Why do you think?" Xu Yuandao stepped closer until he cornered Li Niannian against the wall, his arms trapping her between his chest and the wall as he spoke softly yet firmly. "Of course it's because I like you, so I want to have my fill!"
Because I like you...
"I like you..."
Li Niannian was stunned, her mind drifting away from her body. Did that cold and aloof manager really like her?! Was it true? Then she recalled the kiss from a while ago, and her face flushed bright red, like a ripe tomato.
Seeing her dazed expression, Xu Yuandao mischievously bit her lip, giving it a gentle nibble.
"Ma-Manager!" Li Niannian exclaimed in surprise, her body trembling slightly.
"And what about you?" His gaze sent a clear message of "refuse me and you'll regret it," laced with a hint of threat.
Feeling somewhat embarrassed under his scrutiny, Li Niannian nodded shyly, like a bashful bride.
"Good. You've been slacking off long enough; it's time for you to go back and revise the proposal for me."
He was smiling, but it was a chilling smile that sent shivers down her spine. When he saw she had no reaction, he patiently shouted again, "Hurry up and go!"
"Yes, Manager!" Li Niannian replied quickly, like a scolded maid, rushing back to the office.
As she ran, she secretly complained to herself: How could anyone be so realistic? At least wait until they held hands before being so careless! Saying he liked her was just a lie!
With tears in her eyes, Li Niannian sprinted back to the office, thinking how unfair it was for the manager to bully her like this.
