Katrina stood in the hidden dwelling of the Dark Elf Clan, surrounded by dense vines and flickering magical circles. Her gaze was resolute yet filled with despair as she cradled the sleeping infant, Mia, in her arms; her heartbeat echoed in the silent air.
The elders of the clan encircled her, their faces etched with anger and disappointment.
"Katrina, you have betrayed us," the Clan Leader's voice was like frost in winter, cold and piercing. "Your union with a human has tainted our bloodline; this child cannot remain."
Katrina's heart trembled, but her voice remained eerily calm. "She is my daughter, and I will never allow you to harm her."
A flicker of complex emotion crossed the Clan Leader's eyes but was quickly replaced by resolve. "Then you must choose to leave. Never return."
Katrina knew this was her only option. She gently kissed Mia's forehead and turned toward the exit.
Each step felt like walking on a blade, her heart bleeding. She left the clan, leaving behind everything she once knew, all to protect the life she held.
Toronto, her former lover, stood at the exit, his expression dark. "Katrina, are you really willing to give up everything for this bastard?"
Katrina looked at him coldly. "She is not a bastard; she is my daughter. And you, Toronto, have lost your last chance."
Without looking back, she stepped into the human world. She knew she had to find a safe place for Mia, far from all of this. Her steps were firm despite the fear and uncertainty that filled her heart about the future.
Four years later, on a night of a full moon, Katrina arrived at a human family's doorstep with Mia. She understood that this was the baptism Mia had to undergo; if it failed, she would cease to exist.
She placed Mia at the door, filled with pain and reluctance. Turning away, tears blurred her vision.
"Goodbye, my baby," she whispered softly before disappearing into the night.
Renee and Charlie discovered Mia at their doorstep, and their world changed forever. From a distance, Katrina watched silently, her heart filled with complex emotions.
She knew her choice would alter Mia's fate, but she also understood that it was the only thing she could do.
Katrina's choice was not only a rebellion against the rules of her clan but also the ultimate expression of maternal love.
She gave up everything just to give Mia a chance at survival. Under the moonlight, her figure appeared so lonely yet strong.
Four years later.
Moonlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, casting a glow on Mia's bed, where her body trembled gently beneath the sheets.
Four-year-old Mia had long, jet-black hair and deep blue eyes. At that moment, her small hands clutched the blanket tightly, and beads of cold sweat dotted her forehead.
"Mommy, I'm so scared..." Mia's voice quivered with a hint of tears, her eyes tightly shut as if battling the fears lurking in her dreams.
Renee hurriedly sat by the bed, gently stroking Mia's forehead in an attempt to soothe her. "Sweetheart, it's okay. Mommy is here."
Charlie stood at the door, his brow furrowed with concern. "Renee, this has been happening for several nights now. Mia's nightmares are becoming more frequent."
Renee sighed, her voice laced with helplessness. "I know, Charlie. But Doctor Kurt said she's physically fine. What more can we do?"
Charlie walked into the room and sat on the other side of Mia's bed, gently holding her small hand. "We need to find a way to help her; we can't let her live in fear like this."
Suddenly, Mia sat up, her eyes flying open. The reflection of the full moon outside shimmered in her pupils, radiating a fear that seemed beyond her years. "No, no... don't come closer!"
Renee and Charlie immediately tensed up. Renee wrapped her arms tightly around Mia, trying to calm her down. "Mia, wake up, sweetheart. It's just a dream."
Charlie attempted to use a rational tone to bring her back to reality. "Mia, listen to Daddy. You're safe here; no one can hurt you."
Mia's breathing gradually steadied as clarity returned to her gaze, though traces of fear still lingered. "Daddy, Mommy, I... I had a terrible dream."
Renee gently stroked Mia's back, her voice soft yet firm. "It's okay, sweetheart. Dreams are just illusions; you're safe now."
Charlie, more serious, asked, "Mia, tell Daddy what you saw in your dream. Why were you so scared?"
Mia lowered her head, her voice barely a whisper. "I... I saw some people I didn't know. They... they were chasing me."
Renee and Charlie exchanged worried glances, both understanding that this was more than just a simple nightmare.
Charlie took a deep breath, trying to mask his anxiety. "Mia, those were just dreams, not real. You're here with us; we're a family, and we will protect you."
Mia looked up, tears glistening in her eyes, but she fought to hold them back. "I know, Daddy. I'm just... just a little scared."
Renee held Mia tightly, her voice laced with determination. "Charlie, we can't keep going on like this. We need to find a way to help Mia."
Charlie nodded, his gaze resolute. "I know, Renee. Tomorrow, I'll go to the library and look up some books about children's nightmares. We'll definitely find a solution."
Mia gradually quieted in Renee's embrace, her small hands gripping Renee's shirt as if seeking safety.
Under the moonlight, Renee and Charlie silently watched over their daughter, their hearts filled with love for her and uncertainty about the future.
On this restless night, all they could do was provide Mia with as much warmth and comfort as possible.
