In the region of East City, Xi Shui Nan was an untouchable figure, as the young master of East City, he had the confidence to back it up.
Chaos City, despite being a place rife with troubles, was home to those who had established their own kingdoms through sheer strength. The foremost among them were the Five Great Lords of Chaos City.
East City's Xi Yingjun, South City's Mu Beihan, West City's Cold Fan Mountain, North City's Lu Yang, and Eastern City’s Dongfang Qian. Each of these five held their ground firmly within Chaos City.
Xi Shui Nan was the only son of East City Chairman Yingjun. Every cultivator in Chaos City knew how much Xi Yingjun doted on his only son, indulging him without limits. It wasn't that he feared rejection; rather, he feared that his son might not want something. This naturally fostered a mindset of entitlement in Xi Shui Nan.
Zuo Dao's actions deeply provoked him; no one in Chaos City had dared to disregard him in such a manner before. Anyone who dared to treat him like that would pay a price.
The shops lining the streets and the pedestrians were accustomed to this behavior; it would have been strange if Xi Shui Nan had not reacted at all.
However, while Xi Shui Nan's response was expected, the reaction of the three unfamiliar cultivators was far beyond anyone's anticipation.
Zuo Dao, Yan Zhen, and Zhao Wang didn’t even turn their bodies; they simply walked straight ahead, seemingly ignoring the attack directed at them.
A faint ripple appeared behind the three of them as Xi Shui Nan's attack landed on it, dissipating silently into the air.
"Water Shield?"
"Not quite; it resembles more of a Qi Shield."
The demeanor of Zuo Dao and his companions sparked murmurs among the surrounding cultivators. Only a few cultivators noticed this scene and their eyes gleamed with intrigue.
"This is a one-time warning; don’t let it happen again." Zuo Dao's voice reached Xi Shui Nan's ears from ahead.
The young lord felt even more incensed upon hearing this and was about to take action when he was stopped by a follower behind him.
"Young Lord, let it go; Water Smoke Fairy is still waiting for you." At the same time, he discreetly transmitted a message to Xi Shui Nan. "There are Celestial King Realm cultivators present on their side."
Xi Shui Nan froze momentarily at this revelation, then forced a cold snort to maintain appearances, though a chill crept up his spine.
In the Great Celestial Domain, the hierarchy was quite evident. Xi Shui Nan, with only the cultivation of a Celestial Master Realm, was facing a Cultivator who seemed to be at the Celestial King Realm. This was undoubtedly a death sentence. Even though the strength of a Celestial King Realm was suppressed in Chaos City, an Immortal King was still an Immortal King—someone no ordinary Cultivator could offend. Even if his father was the East City Lord, it wouldn't matter if someone were to kill him.
Fortunately, the other party did not hold a grudge against him; otherwise, he would have died for nothing. Even if his father sought revenge for him, he would no longer be around to see it.
In fact, Zuo Dao and his companions had already sensed from the unusual expressions of the surrounding Cultivators that this "fool" seemed to have some background. However, as they were new to Chaos City and had not yet grasped the situation, they did not want to stir up trouble. Thus, Yan Zhen merely issued a warning.
The three of them had long since ignored the attack from the other party. If anyone could get hurt in the Great Celestial Domain, it would only be themselves.
"Let's find a place to settle down and gather some information," Zuo Dao quickly decided.
The prosperity of Chaos City exceeded Zuo Dao's expectations. Shops lined both sides of the street, selling all sorts of goods. Some even dealt in human trafficking, which was openly accepted in Chaos City. He could sense hidden energies emanating from several larger shops; surely, those were Cultivators stationed there.
As they walked along, Zuo Dao's horizons expanded significantly. Many rare medicinal herbs and ores that were hard to come by in the Great Celestial Domain were readily available in these shops. This sparked a better idea in his mind.
As they continued through Chaos City, they felt its chaotic atmosphere; indeed, it lived up to its name. They witnessed at least ten fights along their path—killing on the streets was as casual as a game. However, after each death, a group of mysterious figures in black would appear to clean up the scene before vanishing without a trace.
This was a lawless world—a mysterious yet very real one. It was a world where power ruled supreme.
Seeing this situation made Zuo Dao hopeful for Heterodox; such a Chaos City seemed tailor-made for them.
However, their immediate priority was to find a safe place to rest and gather information about Chaos City for further arrangements.
As they walked along, suddenly a Cultivator rushed over from the side.
"Greetings, esteemed sirs! I have the city’s travel permits. Is there anything I can assist you with? I only require a small fee to ensure your satisfaction," Ke Shui Ming hesitated for a long time before finally deciding to approach them. He had witnessed the conflict between these Cultivators and Xi Shui Nan earlier.
In fact, there were many like him in Chaos City. The city’s existence allowed numerous Cultivators to use it as a prime location for selling stolen goods while many desperate Cultivators also chose this place. These newcomers became their main clientele, leading to his current profession.
Zuo Dao looked at him and realized that this person had been following them for some time. Initially, he thought he was being targeted by someone or that the "fool" Cultivator had sent him; he didn’t expect him to be just a "donation collector." However, having someone familiar with the area was much more convenient than searching blindly.
"What are your fees?" Zuo Dao asked casually.
"Just guiding you around, nothing too much. If it's for food, lodging, or business, it won't cost you much at all. For every transaction you make, we can earn a little commission in the shop," Ke Shui Ming said, careful not to offend the three before him. He had seen Xi Shui Nan suffer a loss before and had endured it, but these three cultivators were definitely not ordinary.
"Well, there has to be a number," Zuo Dao replied with a hint of humor. "How about we give you one Celestial Stone?"
Ke Shui Ming was taken aback by this response, his expression momentarily frozen. He thought to himself, "One Celestial Stone is still something to show for; isn't that beneath your status?" Although he thought this way, he dared not voice it.
"The Great Immortal smiled. The standard price in the city is five hundred Celestial Stones. Of course, if you complete a transaction, I can waive my commission," Ke Shui Ming quickly adjusted his mindset.
"Alright, let's do it this way. You follow us, and I'll pay you five thousand Celestial Stones. However, I have some questions for you," Zuo Dao noted, recognizing that Ke Shui Ming was being honest and confirming that he wasn't sent by anyone else. If he couldn't even discern that, it would be better to find a bun and headbutt it to death.
Ke Shui Ming was still grappling with the idea of working for nothing when suddenly things took a turn. Five thousand Celestial Stones! He knew his monthly income was only around thirty thousand Celestial Stones, and now this amount was equivalent to one-fifth of his monthly earnings.
"Thank you very much, esteemed sirs. I will certainly ensure your satisfaction," Ke Shui Ming hurriedly expressed his gratitude.
"Alright, no need for all that 'esteemed sirs' nonsense. I'm Zuo Dao, this is Yan Zhen, and this is Old Master Zhao. You can just call us Young Master or Old Master Zhao," Zuo Dao waved his hand to interrupt Ke Shui Ming.
"Understood, Young Master Zuo, Young Master Yan, Old Master Zhao. You can call me Ke; that's fine," Ke Shui Ming was surprised that they were not only generous but also quite casual in their demeanor, which made him breathe a sigh of relief.
In Chaos City, such situations were not uncommon; often some patrons would encounter difficult customers who not only demanded service but also extorted money from them. Some even lost their lives over such encounters.
"First, help us find a place to stay; we have more questions for you later," Zuo Dao instructed directly after sensing that Ke Shui Ming seemed decent enough.
"Sure! There's a nice inn not far ahead; it's just a bit pricey. I wonder if the young masters..." Ke Shui Ming's heart raced as he spoke; after all, he had expected to earn a commission from this place and feared they might misunderstand him. He worried that an ordinary place wouldn't suit their status.
"No problem; just lead the way!" Zuo Dao dismissed any concerns.
The inn turned out to be quite nice and relatively quiet—something rare in Chaos City. Not only was the environment pleasant, but even the facilities inside pleased Zuo Dao greatly.
"Oh wow! What luck today! Don't forget to treat us to a meal later!" It seemed that Ke Shui Ming had some reputation in the city; as soon as the innkeeper saw him bringing guests in, he rushed over to greet them.
"Are you gentlemen here for lodging or dining?" After joking with Ke Shui Ming, the innkeeper quickly turned to Zuo Dao.
"First, get three rooms ready, and then prepare a table of food and drinks to bring to my room," Zuo Dao thought for a moment. Of course, each person would need their own room, and he still had questions for Ke Shui Ming, so it was better to be in his own space.
"Sure thing! May I ask how long you plan to stay? Each room costs five hundred Celestial Stones. We can provide ordinary tea and wine for free, but if you want something better, you'll need to pay extra," the attendant said, clearly shrewd. He didn't ask Zuo Dao and the others if they had Celestial Stones; instead, he simply stated the prices.
Ke Shui Ming stood to the side, a bit flushed. Zuo Dao couldn't help but smile at his reaction. This kid was quite something; he probably thought Zuo Dao was complaining about him!
"Let's stay for a month. Here's the payment," Zuo Dao tossed out fifty thousand Celestial Stones. "No need to give me change; just arrange some decent food and drinks."
What a big spender! Absolutely a big spender. Zuo Dao's generous offer made the attendant's heart leap with joy. Even after deducting the cost of the rooms and meals, he would still pocket over a thousand Celestial Stones, which made his attitude even more humble.
"Alright, esteemed guests, please follow me," the attendant nearly bowed his head to the ground in gratitude.
In the inn's main hall, there were other Cultivators present who watched Zuo Dao's extravagant display. A few of them exchanged glances that glimmered with greed.
The attendant noticed this as well; it was something he had become accustomed to long ago.
"Don't worry, as long as you're within the inn, we will ensure your safety," he assured them earnestly about his Wealth God, though his commitment was limited to within the inn's walls.
"Let's go; show us to our rooms. Ke, you come along too," Zuo Dao said. With that, he shot a disdainful smile at the Cultivators who had cast strange looks his way before turning and following the attendant.
