A lone killer, Zuo Dao, was enveloped in a blood-red aura of murderous intent. Inside the ship, Huang Xishi felt a wave of anxiety wash over her; she never expected such a stark contrast in one person. She couldn't help but wonder what kind of cultivation method Zuo Dao practiced.
The cultivators of the Dark Ink Star Domain fell into panic after Yan Tieyi's head was swiftly severed. Yan Tieyi was not only the strongest among them but also one of the most formidable figures in the entire Dark Ink Star Domain. Yet, such a powerful expert had lost his head in an instant.
A great terror loomed.
Fleeting lights of escape flickered as they scurried away like frightened mice. However, no matter how fast they were, they could not outrun Zuo Dao's spiritual awareness. A figure appeared before or behind them like a ghost, striking with lethal precision, leaving no bloodshed behind.
A team of over ten was completely wiped out in mere moments by Zuo Dao. It wasn't until there were no living beings left around that he finally emerged from his killing state.
Huang Xishi watched Zuo Dao standing alone in the void, her expression complex. She was worried for him.
Yan Tieyi was a notable figure in the Dark Ink Star Domain; although his strength was slightly inferior to hers, his methods were far superior. The fall of someone like him would surely stir up significant waves, especially within the influence of the Earth Altar Star Domain.
Incidents of conflict were common, yet there had never been a loss of life; even when Yan Tieyi attacked her airship, he had only gone so far as to make a point. She hadn't anticipated Zuo Dao's ruthless intent, which led him to wipe out Yan Tieyi's entire team in just a few breaths. She had barely thought of a way to intervene when it was already over.
Just as Huang Xishi was lost in thought, Zuo Dao flashed beside her. Observing her delicate expression, he hesitated for a moment before reaching out to wrap his arm around her shoulder.
"Don't worry; I will handle everything."
His tone was unyielding and authoritative.
"Actually, this is just one incident. Conflicts like this happen often in this part of the starry sky, but there has never been a loss of life," Huang Xishi replied as she leaned against Zuo Dao.
"That man was called Yan Tieyi; he held some power in the Dark Ink Star Domain. Most importantly, his master is the Grand Elder of the Elder Council of the Dark Ink. That man is extremely protective, especially when it comes to his favorite disciple being killed by you."
"I know. But what does that matter? It's only his own fault for doing what he shouldn't have."
Listening to Zuo Dao, Huang Xishi couldn't help but feel her face flush. The earlier scene replayed vividly in her mind.
"You really took advantage of the situation and then acted innocent," she teased playfully, though she made no further moves.
Both of them understood that the emotions they had just experienced were rare; it was a deeper connection that could only be encountered by chance.
Gently patting Huang Xishi's soft rear, feeling the warmth beneath his palm, Zuo Dao's heart raced.
"Put some clothes on. If I catch you like this again next time, I swear I'll spank you," he said, unable to suppress a chuckle afterward.
As they continued on their journey, a sudden overwhelming aura erupted from one of the supercontinents within the Dark Ink Star Domain, sweeping across the entire land. Countless mountains trembled under this force, and rivers became eerily calm in its wake. The unmatched fury contained within it sent chills down the spines of all the Cultivators on the continent.
"Who has angered the Grand Elder so much?"
"Hurry to the Grand Elder's residence; something must have happened."
"Who is this? Such an immense presence!"
Only a few Cultivators understood what was truly happening.
At this moment, Si Tu Shao Kuang was filled with rage; his favorite disciple had fallen, along with an entire team. Given that there had been no war arrangements for Yan Tieyi during this time, it ruled out the possibility of being killed on the battlefield. Moreover, subsequent investigations revealed that Yan Tieyi's incident occurred within the Earth Altar Star Domain. This led him to ponder deeply, but at the same time, a larger plan began to form in his mind.
Zuo Dao and Huang Xishi arrived at the outskirts of the Outer Battlefield.
At this moment, Huang Xishi stowed away the Starry Sky Vessel and smiled at Zuo Dao as she explained.
"On the battlefield, flying objects are generally not allowed to appear unless absolutely necessary."
"Mm." Zuo Dao was indifferent to this; once one reached a certain Realm, it didn't matter much whether there were flying treasures or not.
Pointing towards a dark expanse of starry sky, Huang Xishi said, "That is the Outer Battlefield. The environment of the battlefield is slightly unfavorable for us human Cultivators, but we have our advantages as well—our personnel replenishment speed is faster than that of the enemy. After all, the Demon Clan is fighting on foreign ground, making troop deployment quite troublesome for them."
"Are you saying that you have been in a stalemate all this time?" Upon hearing this, Zuo Dao keenly grasped the crux of the matter.
"Yes. Although the demons are fewer in number, their individual strength surpasses that of our human race. Moreover, they operate under unified command, while we humans..." At this point, Huang Xishi let out a slight sigh.
Zuo Dao understood the stakes involved and could only pat Huang Xishi lightly to show his understanding.
As they approached the battlefield, more and more Cultivators appeared. Occasionally, dozens of streaks of light would flash across the starry sky; those were the battlefield patrol teams fulfilling their duties—to prevent any demons from infiltrating.
From these Cultivators, Zuo Dao could clearly sense a difference compared to those he had encountered on planets. The Cultivators here carried an air of iron and blood, imbued with a sense of resilience. If they were to engage in battle with those who had never experienced the trials of blood and fire, it would not be an absolute defeat for them.
The battlefield truly was a place that forged individuals; Zuo Dao even considered throwing his future disciples from the Heterodox into the battlefield for training.
"Have you noticed many differences?" Huang Xishi looked at Zuo Dao. "Once you step onto the battlefield, regardless of any past grievances, you must set them aside. This is an ironclad rule of warfare; you may even have to shield your enemies from harm. That is what the battlefield demands."
Zuo Dao nodded in silence.
The further they went, the more stringent the vigilance became. Finally, they were stopped nearly a thousand miles from the battlefield.
"Why are you all stationed here today?" Upon seeing the figures ahead, Huang Xishi felt an ominous premonition.
"It turns out to be Fairy Phoenix. We just received orders. Due to a blood incident in the Earth Altar Star Domain, the War Elder Group has temporarily decided to station us in this area."
"The War Elder Group!?" Huang Xishi couldn't help but be startled.
The War Elder Group was the most powerful authority in the Outer Battlefield, overseeing significant matters on the battlefield. What kind of blood incident could possibly alarm the War Elder Group? Huang Xishi couldn't help but think of Yan Tieyi and his group.
"What major event has occurred to cause such a stir with the War Elder Group?" Huang Xishi feigned ignorance. The cultivators before her were clearly different from the disciples of various Star Domains based on their attire.
They wore deep azure battle robes, devoid of any unnecessary embellishments, with a large character for "War" emblazoned on their chests. This was the unique uniform of the War Elder Group's enforcement squad.
"The Grand Elder of the Dark Ink Star Domain, Si Tu Shao Kuang, alerted the War Elder Group that one of his disciples was killed along with his entire team while carrying out a secret mission in the Earth Altar Star Domain," Lin Shaoqiu, the captain of this enforcement squad, explained. Having long been active in the Outer Battlefield, he recognized the Bloodhand Immortal Garb before him; since it was no longer a secret, he shared this information with Huang Xishi.
Zuo Dao, listening nearby, couldn't help but feel intrigued.
"I wonder what secret mission that Grand Elder's disciple was on?"
Lin Shaoqiu looked at Zuo Dao with some suspicion. Everyone on the battlefield knew that Huang Xishi usually treated male cultivators coldly; now she had a man by her side, and their relationship seemed quite close.
"This is an old friend I haven't seen in years," Huang Xishi explained, sensing Lin Shaoqiu's doubts.
"Oh," Lin Shaoqiu replied noncommittally but didn't dwell on the matter further.
"It's not really a secret mission. Si Tu Shao Kuang discovered that there were cultivators suspected of being transformed demons appearing in the Earth Altar Star Domain."
"What?" Upon hearing this, Huang Xishi immediately sensed that something was amiss. She never expected Si Tu Shao Kuang to go to such lengths for his disciple.
"Alright, both of you be cautious. If what Si Tu Shao Kuang said is true, you need to be careful, especially with those unidentified Cultivators," Lin Shaoqiu remarked, casting a glance at Zuo Dao.
Zuo Dao understood the implication and shrugged lazily, saying nothing as he followed Huang Xishi away.
Watching their retreating figures, Lin Shaoqiu sighed softly. The accompanying Cultivators were puzzled as to why their captain suddenly sighed. Only Zuo Dao noticed this behavior and felt a flicker of admiration for Lin Shaoqiu.
Every Cultivator who could survive on the battlefield was no ordinary character. The only ones coming from the Earth Altar Star Domain were him and Huang Xishi. If Lin Shaoqiu didn't harbor suspicions, Zuo Dao would have truly regarded him differently. However, Lin Shaoqiu was indeed a clever person and quickly grasped the key point.
Regardless of Si Tu Shao Kuang's intentions, this was not something a mere guard captain like himself could meddle in.
"Daozi, it seems things have escalated. I didn't expect that old thief Si Tu would resort to such measures," Huang Xishi communicated telepathically.
"It's nothing. If that Si Tu Shao Kuang insists on causing a bloodbath, I wouldn't mind helping him along," Zuo Dao replied, dismissing the matter as he focused his Spiritual Awareness deep into the battlefield.
Demons and monsters, Zuo Dao has arrived!
