The Six of Zuo Wang began their journey, packing their belongings.
The Drunken Old Man, without hesitation, took the lead of this participating team but irresponsibly left them to go ahead on his own.
He justified it by saying, "A bird that never experiences storms will never know how an eagle grows."
Amidst a chorus of disdain, they stepped out from Zuo Wang Peak.
The six of them rode on old horses raised on their peak. Looking at the horses' physiques, Zuo Dao felt that as soon as he mounted one, it would collapse beneath him.
As it turned out, nothing in the peak could be judged by common sense. The old horses were surprisingly steady and reliable.
The eldest brother, Yan Zhen, donned a robe of dark gold, his long hair casually tied back. He rode at the front, leading the group.
Yan Zi and Yan Hong, the two sisters—one in fiery red and the other in watery green—followed behind him with long faces. It was so embarrassing; along the way, they encountered several other participating teams. While the people were charming, their horses were utterly shameful.
The second brother, Teng Chong, along with Third Senior Brother Ping and Zuo Classmate, were carefree at the back, laughing all the way.
The Six of Zuo Wang were not far apart in age: Yan Zhen was twenty-one, Teng Chong nineteen, Ping eighteen, and both sisters were seventeen. The only difference lay in a moment's height difference; the youngest was Zuo Dao.
Yan Zhen was serious, Teng Chong was steady, Third Senior Brother was the most lively, Fourth Senior Sister was the most aggressive, and Fifth Senior Sister was the gentlest. This was Zuo Dao's assessment of them. Of course, when it came to evaluations of Zuo Dao himself, everyone unanimously agreed: he had no bottom line.
As they traveled along, they had long grown tired of the scenery of the Ten Thousand Great Mountains. What truly captured their interest were the various characters heading towards Fallen God Territory.
As they walked on, a team approached them.
"Hello there, Brothers and Sisters from Zuo Wang! What a coincidence!"
Among the group, a seemingly leading figure rode closer. He was handsome and well-dressed, his words filled with sincerity; however, his gaze remained fixed on Yan Hong.
“Purple Dragon Junior Brother!”
Yan Zhen glanced up, nodded in greeting, and continued on his way, seemingly unfazed.
Purple Dragon and the others were not bothered by this. The two peaks were relatively close, and they had some understanding of this senior brother, who was not one for many words, yet the atmosphere remained lively.
Purple Dragon's approach was not merely for pleasantries; he was clearly interested in Yan Zi, who was part of their group.
“Purple Dragon Junior Brother, why is it that this time you’re leading the team from Wulao Peak? Where’s your master?” he asked as he turned his horse to meet them.
“Is he going to be like our master and just act as a hands-off shopkeeper?”
Purple Dragon chuckled.
“You know my master well enough. If it weren’t for the significance of this matter, the Peak Master wouldn’t have forced him to leave his Alchemist's Chamber.”
Wulao Peak was about a thousand miles away from Zuo Wang Peak, making them among the closest peaks in the Seventy-Two Peaks. The disciples often visited each other, though it was usually Wulao Peak sending people over to Zuo Wang Peak.
When Purple Dragon first visited Zuo Wang Peak, he took a liking to Yan Zi, the Fourth Senior Sister. Since then, he frequently found reasons to visit. Over time, they became familiar with each other. The people of Zuo Wang Peak were aware of Purple Dragon's feelings but chose to ignore the gossip.
Everyone knew that Yan Zi’s heart belonged solely to her senior brother Yan Zhen; she never showed any warmth towards Purple Dragon. However, Purple Dragon remained undeterred, continuing to visit as if nothing were amiss.
Once, Zuo Dao teased the Fourth Senior Sister about it:
“Sister, look at Purple Dragon; he’s completely at your mercy every time and never complains. I think you should just give in.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the Fourth Senior Sister exploded in anger and chased him around Zuo Wang Peak for several laps. It was only after Yan Zhen intervened with a word that she finally let him go.
As soon as Yan Zi spotted Purple Dragon, she pulled her sister aside. Purple Dragon, feeling a bit awkward, smiled and started chatting amicably.
"At this Summit, it seems like you all are the ones who came out," he remarked.
Ping noticed that there were only about ten people around Purple Dragon and asked, "How many came out from the Peak?"
"Over fifty from our side, all elite newcomers who can hold their own. The rest are with Sister Yao; we moved ahead while they stayed behind," Purple Dragon replied casually.
He didn't mind; after all, when they left the Peak Master was present. If they could collaborate with Zuo Wang Peak this time, it would significantly increase their chances of making it into the Top Hundred. This wasn't just a coincidence; he had been waiting here on purpose. The route from Zuo Wang Peak to Fallen God Territory was the only way.
Yan Zhen and the others were well aware of the situation but pretended to be oblivious. After all, some things were better left unsaid, especially since the relationship between the two peaks was quite good.
The group continued on their way, laughing together. Ping thrived in such social settings, bustling about energetically. Zuo Dao was as relentless as ever, swindling quite a few good pills from the people of Wulao Peak.
The only one feeling disgruntled was probably Yan Zi. Thankfully, Yan Zhen was present to keep everything in check; otherwise, who knew what kind of trouble might arise?
After traveling for about half a month, they were only a few days away from Fallen God Territory, and more people were joining them on the road.
Wherever there are people, there is a community; where there is a community, disputes are inevitable. Some factions that had previous grievances took this opportunity to start conflicts in hopes of reducing their competition.
Zuo Dao and his companions were low-key experts; among the Seventy-Two Peaks, only Zuo Wang Peak lacked obvious markings that would make them easily recognizable. However, they couldn't escape the attention of those from Wulao Peak nearby.
Weaker factions or Loose Cultivators wouldn't dare provoke trouble with Wulao Peak's prominent insignia. But nothing is absolute; just as this group was walking peacefully, troublemakers appeared.
They weren't from Seventy-Two Peaks and it was unclear which faction they belonged to. The leader was a young man in his twenties. Zuo Dao took a glance and assessed him to be at the Vitality Realm—decent enough—while the two apparent lackeys beside him seemed to be at Nurturing True Essence. No worries; after all, his senior sister would handle him while his senior brothers wrapped things up—this was basically none of his business, Zuo Dao thought carefreely.
Why did it matter? They were coming for the sister duo.
"Excuse me, ladies, please wait. I am Bai Ziling. May I have the honor of accompanying you?"
The young man tried his best to soften his tone, behaving elegantly and presenting himself with grace. However, his voice was as grating as a broken gong, and his bear-like physique completely betrayed him. Most notably, his eyes were filled with an unmistakable lust.
"You idiot, you really are an idiot!" Yan Zi spat out.
It was amusing; the impact of her words was too strong, and Bai Ziling had already collapsed to the ground, unable to withstand it. Truly, he was a shadow of his former self, Zuo Dao thought maliciously.
When had Bai Ziling ever been treated like this? After all, he was the young master of a prominent sect. Within the hundreds of miles of their influence, who wouldn't give him face? Whenever he fancied a girl from a family, they would come willingly to him.
If it weren't for seeing the people from Seventy-Two Peaks with those two lovely ladies, he might have even considered snatching one away. Though he was a playboy, he wasn't foolish. He knew that people couldn't be taken by force without understanding the situation first; he had to endure.
"Sister, this is where you're wrong. I kindly approached you to greet you, yet you treat me this way. One must respect others if they wish to be respected," Bai Ziling said while thinking to himself: I will endure.
Yan Hong tugged at Yan Zi's sleeve, signaling her to let it go.
Yan Zi was not pleased; she was already quite irritated. She had hoped to strengthen her bond with her senior brother and didn't mind being casual in front of her own brother. However, encountering Purple Dragon's group had completely thrown her off balance.
"You call yourself Bai Ziling? If you're not an idiot, then what are you? Am I in the wrong?"
"What more is there to say? You idiot! Can't you see we're on horseback?"
Yan Zi didn't care; if she didn't vent her frustration now, she felt like she would go insane.
Bai Ziling was furious.
Seeing this, Zuo Dao exchanged a strange glance with Purple Dragon and quickly moved aside to create some distance between himself and his senior sister.
Upon seeing the situation, Purple Dragon immediately understood. With a wave of his hand, he led his team to step aside. The disciple next to him was about to speak, but upon seeing Purple Dragon make a "silence" gesture, he followed suit with a puzzled expression.
In an instant, a circle of space opened up around the two sisters. Yan Hong, witnessing this scene, let out a bitter smile and sighed. How could she not know the reason behind it?
Zuo Dao and Purple Dragon's actions made everything clear, and even Yan Zhen was pulled aside peacefully by Teng Chong. If Bai Ziling still didn't understand, then he truly was a fool. It was obvious that they were not going to interfere in this matter; if he insisted on involving them, it would only make things difficult for everyone.
Bai Ziling felt a bit confused. He had seen them laughing on the way here; how had things turned out like this? But he quickly dismissed the thought as there were two beautiful women before him waiting for his attention.
He clasped his fists in gratitude towards Purple Dragon and turned to Yan Zi and her sister, saying, "I had good intentions, yet you, girl, are so ungrateful. Now that no one is here to help you, I want to see how you plan to resist. However, if you willingly serve me as my maid, I might let you off the hook."
Bai Ziling grew more emboldened, as if he had returned to his own territory.
"Otherwise, once I capture you and grow tired of you, I’ll reward my subordinates with you and sell you to a brothel."
Yan Zi's eyes grew increasingly terrifying.
Alas, one reaps what one sows!
Zuo Dao could already foresee the tragic fate awaiting the young master at the door.
