Was it that he didn't love her enough? Or was he simply too cowardly, lacking the courage to face his feelings?
Xiao Tsuyi remained silent, his lips trembling slightly, struggling to find any words to explain. His brows furrowed even tighter.
Su Yau's gaze turned hollow, her body trembling slightly, tears welling up in her eyes.
It must have been his tenderness that led her to this illusion! She thought there was at least a little love for her in his heart, but now it seemed she had merely been deceiving herself. A bitter smile crept onto her lips.
The only person who could bring him happiness and joy was Shen Tingyu; she only made him feel exhausted. If that was the case, it would be better to leave Xiao Tsuyi, to allow him to find his happiness and no longer feel burdened by her presence.
Su Yau bit her lip, a glimmer of determination flashing in her eyes.
The next day, when Xiao Tsuyi awoke, the space beside him was empty. He reached out to touch the bed next to him, but it was already cold.
On the bedside lay a simple note of farewell. He hurriedly sat up, grabbing the note with an anxious look in his eyes.
It dawned on him then that Su Yau had truly left. Panic set in as his eyes widened.
He frantically searched every corner of the house—closets, under the bed, at the desk—leaving no potential hiding place unchecked. His movements were swift and chaotic. He even plastered notices all over West Side, covering every street and alley, but still found no trace of her. Despair filled his gaze.
Three days after Su Yau's departure, Shen Tingyu stubbornly moved into Xiao Tsuyi's residence, dragging her luggage behind her with a smug smile on her face.
Xiao Tsuyi felt powerless to deal with her; his mind was consumed with thoughts of how to find Su Yau. His expression grew vacant as he realized he had spent so much time away from home that he rarely returned; whenever he did come back, it was only to quickly change clothes before rushing out again.
One day, he returned home to change clothes and heard a cacophony of Mahjong sounds coming from inside the house. The noise was quite loud.
Shen Tingyu proudly boasted to the Wealthy Ladies, "Men! They all prefer delicate women. If I hadn't pretended to be pitiful back then, how could Lord Jun and Master Xiao have cherished me so much? Men are foolish. As long as I shed a few tears, they would risk their lives for me, not even caring about the women who suffer for them. Don't you think that's silly?"
As she spoke, she laughed triumphantly, her eyes glinting with cunning.
After a round of laughter from the Wealthy Ladies, Shen Tingyu suddenly exclaimed with a playful giggle, "I won!"
Everyone began to pull out their money when Xiao Tsuyi suddenly kicked the door open with a loud bang. The door slammed against the wall. His face was filled with rage as he overturned the Mahjong table, scattering tiles everywhere in a chaotic mess.
The ladies were startled by this scene, their faces turning pale. They forgot about their money and screamed as they rushed out in panic, creating a scene of chaos.
"Ziyi, you... you're back?" Shen Tingyu forced a smile and clung to Xiao Tsuyi's arm, her eyes shimmering with tears as she tried to appear pitiful.
Unexpectedly, Xiao Tsuyi slapped her hard across the face with a loud crack. His eyes were filled with anger and disgust.
He shouted loudly, "Wipe away your tears! Don't think I’m a fool! You pretended to be pregnant to gain my sympathy back then, and now you shamelessly flaunt your schemes? Get out! I don’t want to see you again! Get out—"
Xiao Tsuyi pointed towards the door and shouted one last time, his voice deafening. Shen Tingyu was so frightened that she stumbled out while crying.
Su Yau, how could I have repeatedly rejected you and ignored you for such a woman?
Xiao Tsuyi slowly crouched down, his fingers digging deep into his hair as he gripped it tightly, letting out a painful and regretful howl, tears glistening in his eyes.
