In the cultivation of the Spell, Xunuo focused his energy on his preferred Bloodstorm Gale. During a discussion with Thunderstorm about the potential advancements of the Spell, Thunderstorm only told Xunuo that once this Spell reached its peak, it would exhibit a unique reaction. However, he was not entirely sure what kind of reaction it would be, as his own Spell had not yet reached that level. He could only vaguely inform Xunuo that achieving mastery in the Spell would bring about a distinct sensation that one would immediately recognize without needing validation from others. Moreover, different advanced Spells would manifest in entirely different ways, with almost no commonalities among them, which is why Thunderstorm could not describe the state of mastery for Xunuo's Spell.
With this guidance from a good teacher, Xunuo found himself struggling through the cultivation of Bloodstorm Gale, repeatedly condensing Golden Wind Blades and striking into the endless starry sky. He understood that the Boundary Stone was indestructible, yet he worried about striking its surface; if it caused any fluctuations in the Boundary Stone and released his aura, it would be too late for regrets. Striking into the infinite starry sky alleviated this concern, as the Golden Wind Blade instantly vanished into the cosmos without leaving a trace.
As his magical power dwindled, he activated the Huayang Classic to replenish it while simultaneously retrieving the Beast Skin that recorded the Spell Stunning Spirit, quietly contemplating its contents. Xunuo had memorized every detail from the fragmented Beast Skin and Ni Bingmo's insights recorded in his jade slip. However, whenever he held the jade slip or Beast Skin in deep thought—especially when looking at the densely packed notes on the Beast Skin—Ni Bingmo's relentless determination constantly spurred him on. That extraordinary individual was willing to pour their heart and soul into mastering a beloved Spell; what reason did Xunuo have to slack off?
In truth, Xunuo preferred to spend this time researching methods to shield Divine Sense with formations, but he lacked sufficient materials on this topic. The formations that provided Divine Sense shielding had minimal differences in strength. Recently, Xunuo had devoted his efforts at the Three Star City Array Master Guild to improving and refining the Qian Kun Two Instruments Formation. The most significant change to this formation was adding an attribute for trapping enemies, transforming it from a single-element trap to one that utilized both water and fire elements interchangeably. Additionally, he enhanced its teleportation capabilities; although he was not entirely satisfied with these modifications, they still resulted in a dramatic transformation of the formation. These two improvements were fundamental in distinguishing this formation from the Heaven and Earth Four Killing Formation. Other functional changes were minimal at best.
However, because of this focus, Xunuo had not paid attention to materials regarding Divine Sense shielding from the Magic Circle Masters Guild. As an Array Master of his level, he could access some core achievements from the Magic Circle Masters Guild, which certainly included methods to enhance formations for shielding Divine Sense. Currently, if Xunuo wished to conduct research in this area, he could only study an expensive formation blueprint he had purchased. This blueprint contained several ancient formations whose value was immeasurable; it included various unimaginable formation data such as enhancing Divine Sense shielding and astonishing teleportation reversals. Yet with Xunuo's current abilities, he could not extract any useful information from it. To grasp these concepts fully required profound understanding of this ancient formation—something Xunuo neither had the capability nor time for. Spending years on such formations would yield little result compared to studying Stunning Spirit Spell.
His progress with Bloodstorm Gale was remarkable; wind blades continuously solidified as if they were genuine Golden Flying Knives. A nearly ten-foot-long Golden Wind Blade soared into the sky without dispersing until it exited Divine Sense range, still shimmering brilliantly before vanishing into nothingness. Moreover, the speed at which he condensed these wind blades rivaled that of ordinary Wind Blade Spells; they could be summoned at will. This Spell's strength approached that of a magical artifact; however, Xunuo still had not experienced that unmistakable feeling associated with mastering a Spell. He could not determine how long cultivating this Spell took but estimated it had been no less than half a year. Finally, Xunuo decided to temporarily set aside Crimson Gale Spell and instead cultivate Hellfire Spell, hoping to gain insights from this Spell that aligned perfectly with his Spiritual Root attributes.
Compared to Wind Blade Spell's simplicity—where one merely needed to condense and launch wind blades focusing on speed and sharpness—Hellfire was far more complex. First and foremost, Hellfire Spell lacked a fixed form; even in combat situations, it manifested in countless variations: fire arrows, Fire Blades, fire walls, Fire Seas—adaptable based on circumstances and individuals without ever appearing in just one way. Hellfire Spell pursued overwhelming firepower; even when transformed into fire blades for combat, it did not rely on sharpness but rather on searing heat to melt opponents down into fire blades solely for concentrating power.
Xunuo habitually released a Fire Sea around himself while seated at its center continuously unleashing Hellfire until his magical power was exhausted before recovering it through spells again. Once replenished, he unleashed countless fire arrows toward the endless starry sky. Each time he varied his approach felt different; this was also why he temporarily set aside Bloodstorm Gale to focus on cultivating Hellfire Spell.
The myriad transformations of Hellfire Spell allowed him to sense subtle differences through various changes while exploring that elusive feeling associated with mastering a Spell. Some challenges are difficult not necessarily due to their complexity but because one might be on an incorrect path. Xunuo believed that as long as he found that feeling of mastery within himself for any Spell thereafter would yield twice the result with half the effort. Although he felt confident in his reasoning, executing it proved exceptionally challenging.
Setting aside finding distinctions among Hellfire Spell's various forms—merely mastering its numerous transformations left Xunuo utterly exhausted. One day he sighed deeply: finally having practiced all variations of Hellfire Spell once over meant he could proceed to the next phase of experimentation.
Xunuo's plan was divided into two steps. The first step was to familiarize himself with all the variations of the Hellfire Spell, and only then would he explore the differences among them. The time spent on this first step exceeded that of cultivating the Bloodstorm Gale, leaving Xunuo physically and mentally exhausted.
During this period, Xunuo devoted his days solely to practicing the Spell and contemplating the Stunning Spirit, neglecting everything else, sometimes even refraining from movement for several days. Having finally completed the first step, which could be considered a brief respite in his training, Xunuo took a moment to breathe in fresh air in the Spirit Domain before returning to begin the second step of his cultivation. This second step was not merely about practicing a single variation of the Hellfire Spell; instead, it involved releasing all variations of the Hellfire Spell one by one and comparing their differences. Almost immediately, Xunuo realized that while this method was theoretically feasible, it proved extremely challenging in practice. He exhausted all his magical energy without being able to cycle through the variations of the Hellfire Spell even once. With a bitter smile, he had no choice but to recover his energy while considering a new strategy.
Using spirit stones to replenish some magical energy during casting was undoubtedly the simplest and quickest solution to this problem. However, this contradicted Xunuo's original intention of honing his magical energy. Compared to the Main Road, this method seemed somewhat counterproductive. In this situation of magical exhaustion, the speed of casting was not significantly related; it mainly stemmed from insufficient magical strength, which was also due to the numerous variations of the Hellfire Spell. Therefore, simplifying the variations of the Hellfire Spell became Xunuo's most viable solution.
This simplification was not a blanket approach but rather involved selectively removing some similar variations. After a round of pruning, Xunuo finally felt ready to conduct his second experimental phase. The Hellfire took on various forms—be it blades or spears or a Fire Sea or even wolves and insects—flickering in the starry sky. Xunuo once again entered into the monotonous practice of Spell cultivation. Each day, he released various shapes derived from the Hellfire Spell. He quietly memorized even slight variations in his heart; although tedious and dull, he still gained some insights.
However, there was no progress in understanding the Stunning Spirit Spell at all. Xunuo couldn't even attempt any practical applications; all he managed was to initially organize a few lines of text regarding this Spell. Yet these lines were merely an introduction to the Spell and not its main text. Even just reading this introduction stirred up intense emotions within him. According to this introduction, Stunning Spirit was only the first layer of this Spell and its most basic state.
The final form of this Spell was called Soul Snatching. The Stunning Spirit phase merely aimed to impact the opponent's Divine Sense, causing temporary loss of control over it; this duration depended on the strength of the opponent's Divine Sense. A stronger Divine Sense would lead to a shorter loss of control time and vice versa. The greatest advantage of this Spell was that it wouldn't become ineffective simply because an opponent's Divine Sense was stronger; it would only be less effective. Of course, if an opponent's Divine Sense reached a certain level, they would become immune to this Spell. Moreover, this Spell had no relation to magical Realm and bore no side effects; it wouldn't backfire due to an opponent's excessively strong Divine Sense. With such a fitting Spell for himself, Xunuo dove headfirst into contemplation.
The Hellfire Spell exhibited various forms with different effects when unleashed. Although Xunuo had yet to sense the feeling of mastery that should accompany a fully developed Spell, he practiced controlling various transformations of the Hellfire Spell with ease. He could instantly summon different variations at will and grasp their strengths effortlessly; it could be considered a small achievement. Realizing it was time to leave, Xunuo decided that for a while he would cultivate the Hellfire Spell while also tending to his Herb Garden in the Spirit Domain. He planned to harvest some long-standing herbs that no longer needed to grow and plant new ones that required specific ages and had lengthy growth periods. In short, he aimed not to let his Herb Garden fall into neglect. Although Xunuo's array remained in place within the Spirit Domain without being taken down, managing these herbs would take considerable time; he had no illusions about completing this task quickly.
Today marked a special occasion as he had watched an entire match from start to finish for the first time—and his favorite Italian Team had won! This should put him in a good mood for the day.
