“Ice Silk Moth Egg!” A cry of surprise erupted from nearby Xunuo. This exclamation nearly ignited the Auction House. In an instant, several Cultivators gathered around to closely examine the beast egg. Those who did not approach also engaged in animated discussions about the egg and its alluring appearance.
Xunuo thought for a long time before recalling that he had seen an introduction to the Ice Silk Moth Caterpillar in a book about demonic beasts. This creature was supposed to be an extremely rare ice attribute Demonic Insect, which could advance to a Fourth-Level Beast in its caterpillar state. However, the final form of this beast was a moth known as the Ice Moth, a terrifying existence capable of advancing to a seventh-level beast.
The Ice Silk Moth Caterpillar possessed ice attribute abilities, able to exhale frost and transform it into ice blades and swords to attack enemies. As this Demonic Insect grew in rank, its chilling aura expanded, allowing it to easily suppress opponents within its icy domain. It could effortlessly eliminate foes of higher levels. The most frightening aspect was that upon advancing to the Ice Moth, it had a chance to awaken the ability known as the Ice Domain.
Xunuo was not well-versed in domain abilities; the book did not provide detailed explanations, only stating that once this ability was activated, it would create an icy world where any trapped Cultivator would have their mana reduced by at least twenty percent. Furthermore, those within this domain would be unable to escape unless they possessed specific means, ultimately leading to their demise.
Thinking of this made Xunuo's heart race with excitement. If he could cultivate such a Spirit Bug, he could simply throw it at any opponent at the Foundation Establishment Stage, freezing them solid. Just imagining it was exhilarating. However, considering his lack of funds and the slow, difficult advancement of the Ice Silk Moth Caterpillar, along with his inexperience in raising Spirit Bugs, he knew that such creatures were incredibly hard to care for. With a sigh, Xunuo abandoned this unrealistic notion.
Meanwhile, the surrounding Foundation Stage Cultivators were filled with interest, their eyes gleaming as they observed the Demonic Insect egg.
“Impressive skills, my friend! You even brought the nest of the Ice Moth here.”
“Indeed, this type of Crimson Algae Silk can resist most flames; only the Ice Moth can produce it. This nest must have been built by the Ice Moth.”
“I wonder what you intend to trade for it?” Various voices chimed in.
“This Insect Egg lacks vitality.” One voice, though quiet, rendered the onlooking Zhu Xiu speechless.
The Quacking Voice Practitioner shot a cold glance at this person and disdainfully remarked, “It’s merely slightly lacking in vitality; do not speak recklessly.” The last few words carried a distinct chill.
The cultivator who had spoken out wore an imposing Dragon Head Mask. Ignoring the threat from the Quacking Voice Practitioner, he circled around the Demonic Insect egg and chuckled, “If this Demonic Insect egg were not preserved in its nest, it would have no chance of hatching by now. Even with the protective aura of the Ice Moth, the chances of this egg hatching are less than fifty percent. If it manages to hatch at all, two or three out of ten would be considered lucky. I fear this egg has already suffered damage.”
The Quacking Voice Practitioner stared at the other person in shock for a moment, then said with a sharp turn of his eyes, "Don't spout nonsense; speaking recklessly can get you killed." He boldly threatened the Dragon Head Mask Practitioner.
At this point, the surrounding Cultivators were uncertain. They could sense the presence of the Ice Silk Moth Caterpillar and confirm that this Insect Egg was produced by the Ice Moth. However, when it came to the specifics of the Insect Egg's vitality and hatching success rate, they were at a loss.
But at an auction, this wasn't a problem. One Cultivator quickly sought help from the Golden-Clan Cultivator hosting the auction. The Golden-Clan Cultivator smiled and pointed at the Dragon Head Mask Practitioner, saying, "If he says so, then it must be true."
The crowd of Cultivators gasped and turned their attention to the Dragon Head Mask Practitioner, speculating about this Cultivator's identity while their interest in the Ice Silk Moth Caterpillar and Insect Egg waned. The Quacking Voice Practitioner was quite displeased with this outcome; while guessing the identity of the Dragon Head Mask Practitioner, a fierce light flickered in his eyes. In an instant, an eerie silence enveloped the entire Auction House.
The Golden-Clan Cultivator hosting the auction regretted his hasty words. The identities of those attending the auction were naturally known to the organizers, but revealing participants' identities was a major taboo. Fortunately, since it was the Dragon Head Mask Practitioner who first stepped forward, his words had already exposed his identity. The Golden-Clan Cultivator merely reinforced this information without explicitly stating it, which was somewhat acceptable and did not violate auction rules.
At that moment, as if to break the deadlock, a Cultivator asked the Quacking Voice Practitioner, "What do you intend to exchange for your Ice Silk Moth Egg?"
Only then did the Quacking Voice Practitioner retract his unfriendly gaze and reply, "I want to exchange it for a Jin Feng Dan."
Instantly, a clamor erupted in the Auction House, with some voices even cursing; clearly, many Cultivators looked down upon this exchange request from the Quacking Voice Practitioner. To Xunuo, Jin Feng Dan was merely something he had heard of; it was an auxiliary spirit pill for advancing to Foundation Establishment Mid-Stage. Even Foundation-Completion Practitioners found it quite effective for enhancing their cultivation. It was almost a level above the Turtle Spirit Pill.
Hearing this, the Dragon Head Mask Practitioner retorted sharply, "If your Demonic Insect egg were intact, there might be some chance of trading it for a Jin Feng Dan. Given its current condition, you probably can't even exchange it for a Turtle Spirit Pill. You're being overly delusional."
The Quacking Voice Practitioner sneered coldly. "Whether my Ice Silk Moth Egg can be exchanged for a Jin Feng Dan is uncertain. But if the Nangong Family thinks they can take advantage of this situation easily, they're mistaken. I will only trade for a Jin Feng Dan; don't waste your efforts on anything else."

Xunuo was startled by the murmurs around him, and he began to understand why the Dragon Head Mask Practitioner was so arrogant. The Nangong Family was the only one he knew of that specialized in cultivating Demonic Insects. It was said that an ancestor of the Nangong Family came from a Cultivation Sect renowned for its insect-controlling techniques, and he held a significant position there. When he saw no hope of achieving the Main Road, he left the Cultivation Sect to focus on family matters, placing his hopes of success on his descendants. His skills in insect control naturally passed down through the family.
However, insect control was vastly different from the Insect Path's Gu techniques. Insect control involved raising Demonic Insects like spirit beasts, awakening their innate abilities to become powerful assets for oneself and the family or Sect. Gu techniques, on the other hand, seemed to involve merging with the Demonic Insects, feeding them with one's own essence, which Xunuo found somewhat repulsive.
Demon Insect Nangong Long was the most famous figure of this generation in the Nangong Family. He might not be the strongest member of the family, but he was undoubtedly the most renowned. This individual had various methods at his disposal, but what made him most feared was his cruelty. He excelled at controlling a type of Demonic Insect known as Beautiful Bee. Although Beautiful Bees were not highly ranked—only a third-tier Demonic Insect—their reproductive capabilities were astonishing, often overwhelming enemies with thousands of them at once. These Demonic Insects did not harm with venom but drained their opponents' pure yang energy, leaving even the most powerful cultivators as mere husks after being swarmed.
The Quacking Voice Practitioner had only exchanged for Jin Feng Dan, which caused the Zhu Xiu present to lose interest. While Ice Moth was indeed valuable, everyone understood that compared to their own cultivation levels, it was not worth it. Moreover, even if the chance of hatching this Demonic Insect egg was slim, nurturing it into an Ice Moth would require immense effort and resources along with specialized knowledge—things that ordinary Cultivation Families could not afford to covet, let alone Loose Cultivators. After a brief silence, seeing no one bidding, the Quacking Voice Practitioner shot a resentful glance at Nangong Long before stepping down from the auction stage.
Next up was a Foundation Stage Cultivator who held up a palm-sized black scale. "A fourth-tier Black Water Serpent's Reverse Scale for a Millennium Chicken Bone Grass or an Intermediate Magical Artifact."
This prompted another round of discussions among the Zhu Xiu below. Most cultivators looked down on this exchange; while Black Water Serpent's Reverse Scale was indeed a rare item, it fell short compared to what he wanted in return, clearly indicating an intention to take advantage. However, Xunuo understood that value varied from person to person; for instance, he personally felt that exchanging Millennium Chicken Bone Grass for Black Water Serpent's Reverse Scale was quite a good deal—though he dared not propose it.
The Black Water Serpent's Reverse Scale was a premium material for crafting intermediate or advanced Defensive Artifacts. A Defensive Artifact made primarily from it would boast unparalleled defense within its tier and would be significantly more valuable than comparable Attacking Artifacts in both price and rank. Even when used in crafting Advanced Magical Artifacts, it remained an exceptional choice. However, compatible materials for it were scarce; thus finding suitable auxiliary materials for crafting an artifact with this scale as the main ingredient proved challenging. Nevertheless, this particular Black Water Serpent's Reverse Scale caught the eye of a Foundation Stage Cultivator who confirmed its quality and completed the exchange using a circular Attacking Artifact.
The third participant in the exchange was a Red-Haired Cultivator whose vibrant hair made his mask seem somewhat unnecessary. However, what he brought forth for exchange immediately caught Xunuo's attention: a Random Teleportation Talisman. The Random Teleportation Talisman was Xunuo's least desirable option but possibly his only choice.
The Boundary Token would have been ideal but also nearly impossible to obtain; thus Xunuo focused on acquiring a Directional Teleportation Talisman instead. If he couldn't get that either, then accepting a Random Teleportation Talisman would suffice. As soon as this talisman appeared, Xunuo couldn't help but light up with excitement and felt restless.
The problem lay in what he needed to offer in exchange: a set of Heaven and Earth Four Killing Formation formations. This drove Xunuo nearly mad; his Qian Kun Two Instruments Formation surpassed Heaven and Earth Four Killing Formation in capability. However, this formation played a crucial role in their upcoming actions, making it impossible for him to part with it for trade. Watching another cultivator successfully exchange their Heaven and Earth Four Killing Formation only fueled his frustration further.
