Xunuo was stunned. Without any reaction, the Fire Cloud Bat followed closely behind, charging into the formation as well. The stone lay between Xunuo and the Fire Cloud Bat, seemingly more afraid of the bat, rolling past Xunuo.
The Fire Cloud Bat was furious at the sudden appearance of this human and immediately regarded Xunuo as its greatest enemy, ignoring the stone as it spread its wings and lunged at Xunuo. What shocked Xunuo was the stone's behavior; it had long been prepared for the Fire Cloud Bat's intrusion into the formation and had set up a lavish feast for it. With a push of his left hand, a massive blade of wind instantly sliced the Fire Cloud Bat in half. The bat didn't even attempt to defend itself before meeting its demise.
Xunuo waved the Formation Flag, unleashing the full power of the formation. When he turned back, he saw that the stone had rolled behind him and suddenly stopped as if it had hit a wall. It spun on the ground like a gyroscope and transformed into a one-foot-long Yellow Lizard. The lizard darted its small head around, its eyes alertly surveying its surroundings, before suddenly leaping up and crashing down onto the ground. The surface of the mound was as hard as iron, bouncing the lizard back up. This little creature immediately became anxious, darting left and right in a panic.
However, it seemed there was an invisible cage that confined it to a small space; no matter how much it thrashed about, it couldn't escape. Bai Wuxi's five souls surrounded it, positioned according to a strange formation, chanting incantations. Cold Ice and He Xian Gu each held a long black rope about ten feet long but did not use them to bind the lizard; instead, they stared intently at it, seemingly waiting for the right moment. Xunuo understood that this giant stone that had rolled up the slope and transformed into a lizard was actually Firebane Grass.
While Xunuo felt delighted, he was even more curious about this lizard-like creature formed from grass; it appeared almost like a real living being with an impressive spirit. Capturing this creature was beyond Xunuo's capabilities; his methods would only damage it. To capture it intact with all its roots, he could only rely on Bai Wuxi and others' techniques. What Xunuo needed to do was wait for them to succeed and then quickly seal it away in a special magical artifact.
The space confining the lizard was entirely composed of Yin Malevolence, which could greatly deplete Firebane Grass's vitality. After a moment, the lizard began to pant heavily, its form becoming unstable as its lizard-like appearance gradually blurred. Seeing that it could no longer maintain its transformed shape, the lizard suddenly raised its head and emitted a series of loud "clack clack clack" noises toward the sky. Following this, there was a blur, and it vanished, leaving behind a three-foot-tall bright red Fire Tree.
Cold Ice and He Xian Gu acted simultaneously upon seeing this; they summoned Yin Soul Ropes. One rope wrapped around the Fire Tree horizontally while another transformed into a large black net that covered it completely. Although both Yin Soul Ropes bound the Fire Tree, they were instantly engulfed by smoke from its flames, causing their soul power to rapidly dissipate. Xunuo quickly produced several talismans from his hands and appeared in front of the Fire Tree to seal away Firebane Grass but was suddenly jolted by a massive tremor that nearly knocked him off his feet.
The little red tree sensed this tremor as if it had detected something and began to struggle violently within the black net. The black net formed by Yin Soul Rope became unstable under this surge of power. At the same time, Bai Wuxi and the other five Soul Bodies could no longer maintain their strange formation due to this tremendous shaking. With no longer being constrained by the formation, the Fire Tree broke free from its bindings in just a few moments and flashed away in a burst of red light.
Suddenly, Cold Ice leaped up and embraced the Fire Tree while unleashing a powerful blast of true soul energy at it. The Fire Tree dimmed instantly under this assault. Cold Ice shouted sharply, "Quickly seal it!"
Xunuo steadied himself and unleashed all his talismans at once to completely subdue Firebane Grass. He tossed Firebane Grass into his magical artifact and looked up at the outside of the formation with no color left in his face.
The noisy sounds emitted by the lizard clearly served as some sort of signal. This signal not only reached the ears of Fireline Toad but also caught the attention of Fire Cloud Bat. Originally residing within Lava Swamp, Fireline Toad gave Xunuo an impression that it was not adept at movement and could only rely on solid defense while passively taking hits. However, after receiving the signal from Firebane Grass, Fireline Toad leaped out from Lava Swamp and soared onto Earth Hill in just two jumps, moving much faster than Fire Cloud Bat.
The Fireline Toad seemed to have a clearer sense of the Firebane Grass's location. Upon reaching the hilltop, it crashed directly into the magic circle. The massive body of the Fireline Toad collided with the iron-like defenses of the circle, causing the entire hill to shake violently.
The impact sent the Fireline Toad tumbling down the hill, while the magic circle itself shook and revealed its form. Although it was impossible to see what was happening inside the circle from the outside, the collision caused the essence of Firebane Grass within to disperse. Following this, a swarm of Fire Cloud Bats descended like a rainstorm, launching fireballs and rocks at the magic circle. Only a few of the Fire Cloud Bats continued to focus their attacks on the Fireline Toad.
Having been passively attacked while lurking in the Magma Swamp, the Fireline Toad had drawn these Fire Cloud Bats away to buy enough time for the Firebane Grass to escape. It wasn't that it couldn't evade or was too foolish to do so. Now that this distraction was gone, before the fireballs and rocks could hit it, the Fireline Toad vanished in a flash. In an instant, it reappeared in another location and leaped up fiercely towards the Fire Cloud Bats, soaring to their height.
Seeing this small group of Fire Cloud Bats scatter in all directions, the Fireline Toad unleashed its Crimson Long Tongue like a whip, instantly ensnaring over ten of them and swallowing them whole. With one strike, it disrupted this group of Fire Cloud Bats but did not pursue them; instead, it turned back and leaped back onto the hill, opening its mouth wide as dozens of fireballs rained down upon the magic circle.
The Fire Cloud Bat King was determined to seize this Firebane Grass as well. Seeing the Fireline Toad join in the fray, it let out a strange cry. Nearly half of the Fire Cloud Bats seemed to receive orders and began to swarm around the Fireline Toad with frenzied attacks. In an instant, thick smoke billowed and flames shot into the sky amidst the chaos on the hill.
Xunuo held a Formation Flag and addressed Bai Wuxi and his four companions: "The Firebane Grass has been secured; you should be released. However, with spells raining down everywhere, letting you go now would likely result in your immediate demise. So let me break through first before I find a safe place to grant you your freedom."
With that said, Xunuo opened the Mysterious Yin Pot and looked at Bai Wuxi's group. Cold Ice leaped in first without hesitation. Bai Wuxi glanced at Cold Ice and then at Xunuo with unspoken words before letting out a long sigh and jumping into the pot as well. The others followed suit with grim expressions, entering the Mysterious Yin Pot one after another. He Xian Gu was last to enter and pitifully urged, "You must survive and get out!"
Xunuo felt exasperated: How could I guarantee that?
Regarding Cold Ice's seemingly self-destructive behavior, not only Xunuo but even Bai Wuxi and several other Soul Bodies were taken aback. Bai Wuxi's group had formed their formation using Yin Sha not only to trap the Firebane Grass but also to isolate it from its extraordinary Fire Spirit Power. While Soul Bodies could endure exposure under intense sunlight and use Fire Poison to dispel Yin Sha, they would never dare touch real fire—let alone something like a Fire Tree generated by such potent Fire Spirit Power.
Although Cold Ice ultimately clung desperately to the Firebane Grass long enough for Xunuo to seal it away, his Soul Body soon became faint and nearly invisible. What puzzled Xunuo most was that Cold Ice still wore his usual icy expression without any sign of change. However, Xunuo had no time to ponder this issue; a greater problem loomed ahead.
Observing the chaotic situation outside the magic circle, Xunuo quickly assessed their current predicament. With three parties involved—the two battling factions plus himself—there was no possibility for alliances among them at this moment, which provided Xunuo with some reassurance.
In terms of combat strength, there was no doubt that the Fire Cloud Bats were the strongest faction; however, when it came to individual combat power, the Fireline Toad stood out most prominently. After demonstrating its peculiar evasion techniques, any defensive weaknesses had been covered up. Xunuo believed he had no guaranteed victory against it in a one-on-one confrontation. Meanwhile, since he possessed the Firebane Grass, he found himself in an extremely perilous position. If his magic circle were broken and its true form revealed, he would undoubtedly face combined attacks from both sides in no time.
Xunuo knew that the task at hand was to maintain the defensive array for as long as possible while eliminating as many beasts as he could during that time. He had no illusions that this Defensive Array could withstand the overwhelming attacks coming from all directions. Currently, aside from this Defensive Array, he also had an offensive array that he had crafted during his assessment as an Array Master. This offensive array was specifically designed based on the characteristics of the Defensive Array he had on hand. The two arrays could be used in combination, with no conflicting attributes, and their power would be enhanced.
Additionally, he had temporarily borrowed several arrays from the Magic Circle Masters Guild, which were tailored to counter the Fire Fiend Environment of the Purple Sun Fiery Valley. However, these could not be used together with his two arrays; forcing them to combine would only reduce their effectiveness.
Moreover, Xunuo did not intend to waste time battling these beasts here. He planned to seize any opportunity to escape. He understood that it was impossible to evade the pursuit of these creatures entirely, but as long as he could break free from their encirclement, he had ways to keep them at bay and prevent them from surrounding him.
In this situation, Xunuo felt severely restricted; he couldn't unleash the full potential of his newly acquired magical artifacts for a powerful strike because the Blue Flame Shield was crucial for his defense. He needed to retreat to a location with a relatively lower temperature before he could fully utilize his abilities and engage in a desperate fight against these hairless beasts. As for the two offensive and defensive arrays, Xunuo was prepared to abandon them if necessary.
