Xunuo felt a stir in his heart. With a flick of his hand, he summoned the Crimson Fire Whip. Hitting the Gyroscope? This sparked a hint of childlike excitement within him.
However, to his surprise, as soon as the Crimson Fire Whip emerged from the storage bag, it flew uncontrollably towards the Gyroscope, seemingly more interested in it than in striking. Yet, instead of whipping the Gyroscope as Xunuo had expected, the whip coiled around it instead.
Xunuo looked on in confusion: What was this thing trying to do? By wrapping around like that and then pulling with force, it was going against the Gyroscope's spinning direction. Xunuo almost shouted out: You're doing it wrong! Just then, the Crimson Fire Whip indeed lashed out and pulled back sharply. The high-speed spinning Gyroscope suddenly came to a halt under this immense force. With a loud crash, the scales at the top of the Gyroscope flared open like a blooming lotus flower. Above the lotus, a foot-high blue flame surged upward. Xunuo stared in awe, realizing this was the true power of these two magical artifacts.
The pause of the Gyroscope was only momentary; immediately after, the Crimson Fire Whip yanked back fiercely, causing the Gyroscope to spin again at several times its previous speed. From Xunuo's vantage point, it appeared as if the Gyroscope and its lotus top were motionless. However, during this high-speed rotation, it seemed to gather endless power, increasing exponentially as if about to explode if not released.
Just as Xunuo was lost in amazement, the Crimson Fire Whip swung down from above like a Fire Chain. With a sharp crack, it truly struck the Gyroscope. The rotation speed of the Gyroscope instantly increased further, and this crisp sound also jolted Xunuo back to reality. He quickly formed a gesture and pointed towards a hill about ten zhang away.
What Xunuo did not expect was that instead of shooting towards the hill, the scales on the Gyroscope acted like a swarm of locusts, trailing blue flames as they instantly slashed down onto the hill. After a cloud of dust and fire settled, what was once a hill lay flattened before him; yet the scales of the Gyroscope returned to their original state and continued spinning in place, albeit at a slower speed.
Xunuo was ecstatic as he grasped both artifacts. Although their combined strike did not match the full power unleashed by Heavenly Shadow Spike's hidden attributes, it was still quite formidable. Most importantly, this method consumed far less mana; in this abundant Fire Spirit Power environment, its advantages became even more pronounced.
As he continued on his journey, Xunuo pondered how to maximize this technique's power and how to use it more cleverly amidst rapidly changing battles to trigger more variations. Of course, he could only keep these thoughts to himself for now; practical control would require continuous practice for verification. At present, he had no time for such considerations—capturing Firebane Grass was his immediate priority. Moreover, seeking out a Teleportation Talisman was even more urgent; thus, he had to set aside these thoughts for now.
With no pursuing cultivators behind him, Xunuo chose the shortest route towards the Second Layer Entrance. The interior of Mountain Valley was vast indeed. Upon entering, he could still see towering peaks on either side; now it was an endless expanse of jagged rocks and red earth. Occasionally, he spotted one or two Fire Attribute herbs and collected any useful ones he recognized. As for refining materials, Xunuo knew little about them; his knowledge relied heavily on exchanges with the Magic Circle Masters Guild.
After ten days of travel, Xunuo finally saw Gao Feng peaks rising on both sides of Mountain Valley converging towards the center. His spirit tightened; Bai Wuxi had warned him that these narrow passages were prime spots for ambushes by Evil Cultivators. It was crucial to tread carefully through these areas—one misstep could lead to disaster.
As Xunuo made his way through, his mana had mostly recovered; this was extremely important for him. Even now, he would not casually expend mana and aimed to keep it fully charged at all times.
As Xunuo approached the passage, he adopted a tall and slender stance, using the method of the Black Fat Cultivator. With a flip of his palms, he pushed outward, unleashing countless wind blades that howled in a fan-like formation. The Wind Blade Spell was quite lackluster for most Cultivators. However, its advantages lay in its speed and minimal mana consumption. If he were to unleash fire spells or ice spikes in a similar manner, the mana cost would multiply several times over, naturally resulting in much greater power. Xunuo only used it to scout ahead; the potency of the spell was not his primary concern.
What Xunuo feared most were the hidden Divine Sense arrays; nothing else could evade his Divine Sense. He slowed his pace after sending out a wave of wind blades, cautiously stepping forward. To an observer, he appeared relaxed, but internally he was tense to the extreme. As he continued to use the Wind Blade Spell to probe ahead, he gradually entered the narrow valley.
Though it was described as narrow, it was actually over ten miles wide, somewhat broader than the entrance to the Purple Sun Fiery Valley. However, at this distance, a Cultivator's magical artifact could still deliver a lethal ambush. Just as Xunuo felt a sense of relief, a ripple stirred in the void as another wave of wind blades passed through. He sighed inwardly: what was meant to come had finally arrived.
For someone like Xunuo, a Master of Array, as soon as this array revealed itself, he could make a judgment without even needing to interact with it. This array was designed for ambushes and deception; in Xunuo's view, once he discovered its existence, the attackers would lose their chance for surprise and would naturally abandon their futile efforts. A direct confrontation with an Eleventh Layer Grandmaster would yield vastly different results than a stealthy attack; it could easily turn into a life-and-death struggle.
Unexpectedly, before Xunuo could bypass the array, a Cultivator with two buns in her hair stepped out from within it. This Cultivator had only reached the tenth level of Basic Skill Method but stood boldly in front of Xunuo, coldly staring him down. The moment Xunuo saw her expression, he realized there were likely accomplices hidden within the array; otherwise, a Foundation Stage Tenth Layer Cultivator would not dare act so arrogantly.
Xunuo had no doubt he could break this array; however, he couldn't ascertain what lay inside it. Even with his Divine Sense fully deployed, it was ineffective because this array's strongest feature was its ability to shield against Divine Sense and conceal itself within the void.
Xunuo returned the cold gaze while suddenly releasing his aura. The Cultivator was forced back a step by his imposing presence but then shouted at him: "Where's Black Skin? Did you kill Black Skin? You're dead meat!"
As her voice rang out, three figures shot out from within the array. All eyes turned toward Xunuo's high-grade storage bag at his waist.
Among these three were two Eleventh Layer Grandmasters and one Foundation Stage Tenth Layer Cultivator. Their faces were as dark as water as they looked at Xunuo with hostility. It dawned on Xunuo that these three Cultivators had killed the Black Fat Cultivator without taking any items for a reason. The situation was not as noble as they pretended; it seemed that this Black Skin had some significance.
However, with Xunuo now holding onto the spoils, there was no way to explain himself—even if he tried to clarify, no one would listen. In an instant, he understood the cause and effect of the situation; he knew that fighting was necessary to get through this challenge. He decided not to wait for them to make their move but instead opted for swift action to carve out an escape route.
The four Cultivators feared that if Xunuo turned around and escaped this narrow space with his superior evasion speed, they would lose all chance of pursuit. One Eleventh Layer Cultivator planned to employ delaying tactics to lure Xunuo into the array for an ambush and raised his hands to speak. But before he could utter a word, Xunuo raised his left hand and unleashed over a hundred talismans right before them. Amidst screams and shouts from the four Cultivators—filled with anger and curses—various talismans and spells struck them head-on. The four desperately activated their defensive measures to withstand this wave of attacks.
Due to Xunuo's sudden and concealed attack, this wave of Talisman strikes, while not severely injuring the four, left them in a state of disarray. As Xunuo unleashed hundreds of Attack Talismans, the Blue Flame Shield transformed into a massive Gyroscope, spinning rapidly. The Crimson Fire Whip coiled upward like a serpent. Xunuo was quite eager about these two newly acquired artifacts and planned to use them on these four Cultivators today, intending to give them a surprise.
As the chaotic Talisman Spell subsided, the four cultivators each braced themselves with their Defensive Artifacts and charged out of the turmoil. They expected the young boy to flee, but when they looked up, they were met with a shocking sight. Countless Blue Flame scales surged toward them like a swarm of locusts, engulfing the sky in a haze of blue flames. The four Cultivators understood better than Xunuo the power of these two artifacts; upon seeing this scene, their hearts sank. In unison, they retreated back into the formation, but the Blue Flame scales moved with lightning speed, making it impossible for them to evade. The scales struck their Defensive Artifacts, forcing them back step by step, with one golden ring being sent flying.
Xunuo's eyes lit up as he stepped onto the Black Iron Boat that had long been released, darting through the path cleared by the Blue Flame scales. The scales continued their relentless assault along the formation, tearing through it and creating a swirl of Azure Radiance as they followed closely behind Xunuo.
Xunuo was extremely satisfied with the outcome of this attack. He had no illusions about killing several equally ranked Cultivators in one blow; merely forcing them back was enough to please him greatly. This meant that Xunuo had found a way to break through encirclement while still having the means to escape.
In the past, when Xunuo activated the hidden properties of Heavenly Shadow Spike, its power was incredibly sharp but also consumed an enormous amount of mana, which was difficult for him to bear. In contrast, activating the Blue Flame Shield and Crimson Fire Whip was much more practical for him.
As the Black Iron Boat sped away, a massive Chariot-shaped Artifact flew out from within the formation, roaring as it pursued Xunuo. While stowing away the Blue Flame Shield and Crimson Fire Whip into his storage bag, Xunuo also grabbed hold of Six Heavenly Shadow Darts and tossed them ahead. The Six Heavenly Shadow Darts spread out and scouted several dozen yards in front of the Black Iron Boat. As for the Chariot-shaped Artifact behind him, Xunuo took a quick glance and then chose to ignore it with confidence.
