Xunuo, though quick to react, was still unprepared for the outcome that unfolded. The sound emanating from the magic circle was not loud, but at the same moment, an unimaginable wave of heat surged toward Xunuo. In an instant, it enveloped both Xunuo and the Purple Light Halberd.
Deep within the unknown area of the Underground City, in a pale blue Crystal Wall room, the Black-Clad Youth gazed thoughtfully at an image of a Fire Sea displayed on one of the Crystal Walls. With a wave of his hand, the image vanished, and he stepped forward, suddenly appearing in another room.
This new room was significantly larger and adorned with extravagant decorations. The floor was laid with white jade, and the walls shimmered with gold. In the center of the room, six enchanting women danced gracefully to the music of strings and bamboo. Two Cultivators sat at a table, sipping fine wine while watching the beautiful scene before them with great interest.
Upon seeing the Black-Clad Youth enter, neither of the two men showed any surprise; they merely rose slightly, clasped their hands in greeting, and then resumed their seats. Together, they drank and watched the dance, creating an atmosphere of revelry.
After a moment, the Black-Clad Youth spoke slowly: “All Cultivators from Yama Palace who entered this place have been eliminated. Although it took some effort, I did not disappoint my friends Jin and Xu.”
An elderly Cultivator chuckled heartily. “I knew Senior Zitong had extraordinary abilities and would not let us down. It seems I was right.” He glanced at another Cultivator who appeared gloomy and continued, “I assume you didn’t spare those other Cultivators who sought to covet Foundation Pills either?”
The Black-Clad Youth smiled lightly and replied nonchalantly, “I naturally took care of all Loose Cultivators who ventured deep into the unknown area. However, I cannot act against those in the outer regions of the Underground City; that task falls to you two friends.”
The gloomy-faced Cultivator retorted sharply, “If we can handle it ourselves, why should we rely on you? We have prepared for so long and paid such a high price; we cannot leave any loose ends.”
The Black-Clad Youth remained unfazed. “My obligation was solely to eliminate the Yama Palace Cultivators who entered here; I believe you are well aware of that. You have spread word of this matter and attracted unnecessary trouble, which exceeds our original agreement. Moreover, this task is part of my commitment to Three Star City. Regardless of your contributions, any benefits do not fall upon me.”
The two Cultivators exchanged glances, and the gloomy one spoke with a harsh tone: “We came down here under Three Star City’s promise to eradicate all evil without exception. Senior Zitong’s words contradict that promise from Three Star City. We will not let this go.”
The Black-Clad Youth nodded. “I will clarify this matter with Three Star City’s higher-ups as well. Some rules have existed for a long time; I will not violate them. I believe Three Star City will also uphold these rules.” The gloomy Cultivator snorted lightly and said nothing more before leaving his seat. The other Cultivator bowed slightly to the Black-Clad Youth before turning to exit as well.
Watching them leave, the Black-Clad Youth’s expression darkened suddenly after a moment's pause; he turned around and vanished from sight.
Xunuo sat in his Cave, half-burned from the ordeal. His greatest reliance for escaping from Underground City had been the Thunderproof Armored Shell.
At that moment when Wang Xichuan's Spell went out of control, it unleashed flames imbued with True Sunfire properties that instantly incinerated the magic circle. Quick to react, Xunuo first cast aside the Zhenjiang Seal to block his escape route. Although this action did not stop the raging flames, it bought Xunuo some time to flee.
During the ensuing inferno, Xunuo fully utilized the power of Thunderproof Armored Shell; although he himself was scorched nearly beyond recognition, he managed to preserve his life. In contrast, the Zhenjiang Seal that faced those flames was utterly destroyed. As for Wang Xichuan within the magic circle, Xunuo believed there was no chance for survival—thus fulfilling his agreement with the Black-Clad Youth. Only then did Xunuo dare to return in a state of disarray to his Cave.
This time around, while Xunuo's injuries were severe and his magical power greatly diminished, they paled in comparison to the damage inflicted on his Divine Sense.
Xunuo activated the Sea Collapse Spell twice in a short period, causing the Sea of Consciousness to become unstable. The once bright and sunny Sea of Consciousness was now overshadowed by rolling black clouds, pressing down on the radiant disc high above. At the same time, the thick darkness surrounding it ruthlessly encroached upon the central area of light, causing the Sea of Consciousness to shrink by about ten percent.
Xunuo understood that the Sea of Consciousness could only recover slowly; there were no other effective methods. He temporarily set aside his focus on the Sea of Consciousness and took out some ointments and powders to apply to his half-burned body.
Just as Xunuo sighed in relief, a sound wave flew towards him. He caught it and glanced at it before raising his hand to open the Cave door, allowing Liu Canghai to enter.
Liu Canghai was not surprised by Xunuo's condition; he had seen the state of Mei Sanli and the others, which was ten times more terrifying than Xunuo's. What astonished him was that Xunuo had managed to return alive. Therefore, Liu Canghai's first question was, "What happened to that Rotating Illumination Period Practitioner?"
Xunuo replied softly, "He's dead."
Liu Canghai's eyes widened in disbelief. "Xue Dao You actually killed a Rotating Illumination Period Practitioner!"
Xunuo shook his head slightly. "It wasn't my doing. He died by his own hand... Do you believe that?"
Liu Canghai looked at Xunuo with confusion but did not respond. Naturally, he did not believe Xunuo's words. However, he found it even harder to accept that Xunuo had killed a Rotating Illumination Period Practitioner.
Xunuo could not explain clearly either. Since he had not personally experienced the full power of his Sea Collapse Spell, it was difficult for him to convey how Wang Xichuan lost control and how the spell exploded. Thus, he chose not to elaborate on that and instead inquired about Mei Sanli and the others' situation.
Mei Sanli had no choice but to set aside his confusion and explain things to Xunuo.
When Mei Sanli and the others arrived at the space where Liu Canghai was waiting for them, they were already at their wits' end and somewhat disoriented. Fortunately, Liu Canghai fulfilled his duty as a rescuer; he not only prepared various healing and mana recovery elixirs in this space but also bribed a steward from the first space to lead Mei Sanli and the others through an internal passage of Three Star Underground City into Liu Canghai's Cave.
Currently, these individuals were healing and recovering their mana inside Liu Canghai's Cave. Since they had almost lost all ability to defend themselves, leaving Underground City would be akin to walking into death; thus, Liu Canghai could only arrange for them to recuperate in his Cave.
However, as soon as they entered Liu Canghai's Cave, they all fell into meditation simultaneously. The information Liu Canghai received indicated that they had exchanged a few brief words upon meeting. Despite being anxious, Liu Canghai could only stare helplessly. Seeing everyone in such a severely injured state—especially Mei Sanli whose realm was unstable—made Liu Canghai's heart race with fear. This urgency made him even more eager to learn about what had happened from Xunuo.
Upon hearing that Mei Sanli and the others were safe, Xunuo closed his eyes and entered meditation as well. Seeing this, Liu Canghai stomped his foot in frustration and left.
Ten days later, Xunuo appeared in Liu Canghai's Cave. At this moment, Xunuo's injuries were no longer serious, and his mana had fully recovered; however, there was little improvement regarding the damage to his Divine Sense.
Currently, Xunuo felt he had about seventy or eighty percent of his ability concerning Divine Sense. The reason he did not fully restore it yet was due to his unease about the current situation. Especially after refining the Six Pulse Soul-Returning Pill, the Yin Malevolence within him had infiltrated his mana, causing it to carry a trace of Yin Malevolence.
Xunuo initially intended to refine the remaining potency of the Six Pulse Soul-Returning Pill but seeing this situation forced him to abandon that plan. Even so, he found himself unable to expel the Yin Malevolence that had merged with his mana in any way.
What worried Xunuo even more was that the trace of Yin Malevolence infused into his mana was slowly altering its properties. Currently, the prominent attribute of Xunuo's mana was Fire Attribute, which aligned with his fire spirit and could slightly counterbalance the growing presence of Yin Sha; otherwise, the Yin Malevolence within him would likely become even more rampant.
Xunuo knew that if he refined these medicinal powers, he could significantly restore his Mind Power, but he was even more apprehensive about being entangled with Yin Sha.
During these days, Xunuo had made a plan for the next year. First and foremost, regardless of whether he could resolve the Evil Poison within him, he would never return to the unknown areas of Underground City to meet the Black-Clad Youth. The Black-Clad Youth had not killed him or imposed a more vicious Restriction on him, which undoubtedly indicated a fear of Old Wen's existence.
If even Old Wen was regarded as a venomous snake, Xunuo believed that meeting again would yield no good outcome. Moreover, Old Wen's life and death were uncertain, and his condition remained unclear.
The message left by the Black-Clad Youth in Xunuo's Sea of Consciousness turned out to be information regarding the source of the Foundation Pill at the Cloud City auction. This left Xunuo puzzled, yet he firmly believed in this information. After all, there was no reason for the Black-Clad Youth to deceive him; there must be some hidden truth that Xunuo was unaware of.
However, after being ordered by the Black-Clad Youth to kill the Blue-Eyed White-Haired Practitioner from Yama Palace, Xunuo began to speculate about the hidden truths behind this matter. Regardless of how credible this information might be, Xunuo was willing to take a risk. He believed that if Mei Sanli and others obtained this information, they would not let the opportunity slip by either. This matter could not be resolved by Xunuo alone; thus, he intended to rely on Mei Sanli and others' strength. In fact, he planned to hand this task directly over to them because he had more urgent matters to attend to.
Resolving the Evil Poison within him was an immediate priority. Although he lacked the means to do so himself, he did not believe that Three Star City lacked such capabilities. Xunuo intended to seek assistance from the Blacksmithing Guild in Three Star City or consult with the Manager or Alchemist Guild regarding methods to eliminate the Evil Poison.
Another matter was that during his time in the unknown area of Underground City, Xunuo had activated a Random Teleportation Talisman, which made him very interested in such instantaneous teleportation Talismans. He wondered how many Teleportation Runes he could obtain as a secondary task aside from eliminating the Evil Poison. Of course, what he sought were not random teleportation Talismans but those with directional functions.
This concern stemmed from Xunuo's inability to determine whether the Black-Clad Youth had means to track or lock onto him. The Evil Poison placed on him seemed limited to requiring his return to the unknown area of Underground City within a year; however, Xunuo dared not rule out that there might be tracking methods involved.
Xunuo's plan was that if everything went smoothly and he obtained the Foundation Pill, he would immediately activate a Teleportation Rune to escape this troublesome place. Of course, this depended on first resolving the Evil Poison. As for an improved version of the Heaven and Earth Four Killing Formation, Xunuo currently lacked the ability to refine it and would have to wait until his Divine Sense fully recovered or at least regained most of its strength before using a specialized Geothermal Chamber to enhance his Mind Power for refining it. Calculating the time, there were still six months until the auction in Yun City; by then, he should have enough capability to produce this formation.
