Whether it was the towering structure at the center of the formation or the six towers surrounding it, all were manifestations of the formation's power. Xunuo had no need to appear atop the tower to accomplish his task. He only needed to remain within the tower and make some repairs to the Formation Flag responsible for activating attacks, thereby restoring part of the formation's offensive capabilities.
Not long after Xunuo appeared at the top of the tower, he drew the attention of three men seated on a high platform outside the formation. The three men suddenly launched their attacks simultaneously, unleashing two dark spells and one blue spell that flashed out before vanishing into thin air.
The Thousand Machine Formation's transformation function caused the entire formation to undergo chaotic changes. As a result, their attacks could not lock onto a specific point; thus, it was impossible for them to accurately strike the tower where Xunuo stood.
However, it seemed that the high platform where those three men were located possessed some form of spatial magic. Not only could it distort and deflect their own spells, but it could also negate part of the Thousand Machine Formation's transformation power.
Initially, they had destroyed three towers of the Thousand Machine Formation using this very power. However, manipulating such spatial energy took a significant toll on them. Moreover, they had to contend with incoming attacks while simultaneously locking onto and targeting Xunuo's tower.
Having already exhausted their strength in destroying the three towers of Yama Palace, they found themselves unable to mount any further effective attacks.
The most critical issue was that if they allowed Xunuo to repair the formation, they would be powerless to deflect all of his attacks and would have to face his spells head-on. This back-and-forth would inevitably lead them toward defeat.
Thus, in an instant, they made a desperate decision; however, their target was not solely Xunuo's tower but rather the cultivator standing atop it.
The Blue-Eyed White-Haired Practitioner within the tower naturally observed this scene. The moment Xunuo began repairing the formation, he recognized him as a key factor in changing the tide of battle. He would not allow Xunuo to be harmed by their attacks.
With a flick of his wrist holding the Main Array Flag of the Thousand Machine Formation, its transformation function surged, causing the six walls of light in the formation to flicker erratically. As the formation spun and operated, the six Sub-Arrays interchanged positions, making it impossible for attackers to pinpoint their target.
The Blue-Eyed White-Haired Practitioner did not let his guard down for a moment. The three destroyed towers had fallen under what he believed was an infallible strategy. He understood what would happen next but also realized that his opponent's ability to manipulate spatial power had diminished, giving him a chance to evade this attack.
At a certain moment, three spells suddenly appeared on one side of the formation while its operation momentarily stalled. These spells coincidentally manifested on Xunuo's side. Seeing this, the Blue-Eyed White-Haired Practitioner quickly recited incantations and frantically waved his Formation Flag.
Xunuo had anticipated this and activated several Formation Flags simultaneously. Instantly, streams of spatial power intertwined and were applied to this Sub-Array, causing it to momentarily detach from the entire formation system.
In the next moment, all three spells struck against the tower simultaneously. With a deafening roar, only one layer remained of what had once been a three-layered tower; it was now reduced to ruins. At least three cultivators standing around the tower perished in that instant. Meanwhile, Xunuo remained unscathed at the base of the tower, staring blankly at the Main Array Flag before him as he awaited the outcome.
All of Xunuo's prior maneuvers had been preparations for this strike. In such large-scale formations, their Main Array Flag did not control every single Formation Flag in detail but rather managed each Sub-Array's Main Array Flag specifically. The Sub-Array's Main Array Flag acted as a bridge between them.
Xunuo's goal was to sever this bridge so that he could legitimately take control of this Sub-Array. If that bridge remained intact, the authority of its controller would be severely limited; they could only manage minor adjustments within the formation or make slight defensive alterations.
Xunuo had just disrupted the spatial power within the formation, and although the force was weak, it had a critical effect. It aided the spatial spell of the three men outside the formation, causing a momentary pause in the formation's transition function, allowing that earth-shattering strike to hit its target.
Since Xunuo could activate the formation's teleportation function, there was no concern for their own safety.
However, Xunuo now dared not probe into this formation flag with their Divine Sense, as it would be an outright provocation to the formation's master and would also expose their intentions.
After a moment, a furious roar echoed from within the tower. Soon after, an urgent voice reached Xunuo's ears: "Can you repair this formation flag, Young Friend?"
Hearing this, Xunuo felt a surge of joy, knowing that the first step of their plan had succeeded. Furrowing their brow, Xunuo replied to the tower, "This formation flag is severely damaged. Even with Earth Fire, it would take three days to repair. Currently, that is not possible; I apologize for my inadequacy."
The voice snorted coldly and continued, "With just this formation flag, can you hold this side?"
Suppressing their emotions, Xunuo replied solemnly, "I will do my utmost. While I may not be able to fully unleash the power of this formation, I am confident I can exert seventy to eighty percent of its strength."
"Then do your best," the voice said. Immediately afterward, Xunuo felt a noticeable weakening of control over this sub-array.
Xunuo understood that the master of the formation was transferring control of the array. Quickly grabbing a piece of the formation flag, they began to refine it slowly. As Xunuo refined the flag further, control over this sub-array gradually shifted into their hands.
The Blue-Eyed White-Haired Practitioner had no choice in this matter. Their side lacked a high-level Array Master who could replace Xunuo's position. As the owner of the artifact, losing absolute control over that sub-array meant relying solely on the power of the formation itself for basic defense. This would inevitably affect the entire operation of the array.
That sub-array could become a weak point for their opponents to exploit. Thus, it was better to hand control of the formation over to that Array Master. The Blue-Eyed White-Haired Practitioner only needed to communicate effectively with this Array Master.
With control over this sub-array in hand, what Xunuo sought most was its teleportation function. Moreover, Xunuo needed to teleport their entire team at once. To seek an escape, they had to rely on Mei Sanli and others; relying solely on Xunuo's current personal strength would lead them to certain death no matter where they teleported.
However, Xunuo could not discuss this issue with Mei Sanli and others. If they were still at Foundation Stage Cultivator level before encountering the boy, perhaps Xunuo would have dared to communicate some thoughts with Mei Sanli and others. But within the tower were cultivators whose cultivation levels were unfathomable and far surpassed that of Foundation Stage Cultivators; before that boy, there was no room for negotiation. They merely sent low-level Yin Soul Beasts repeatedly to drain the power of the formation while also redirecting their magical energy to shift attacks from the tower elsewhere. It seemed that their earlier combined strike had exhausted their remaining magical energy.
If this stalemate continued, it would gradually favor the cultivators' side.
Xunuo knew that on Yama Palace's side, particularly that high-level practitioner had yet to make a move. So far, they had been relying on the power of the formation to contend with their opponents. It was likely they were waiting for an opportune moment to strike decisively against them.
Xunuo would not wait for the battle to reach a conclusion before executing his plans; instead, he aimed to create further chaos, ensuring that both sides were too preoccupied to consider him.
After completely taking control of this Sub-Array, Xunuo clapped his storage bag, producing more than ten exquisite Yin Soul Stones. He tossed these Yin Soul Stones to Mei Sanli and the others without hesitation, announcing loudly, "I have mastered this array. Fellow cultivators, please replace the old Yin Soul Stones with these new ones to enhance the array's power." Finished speaking, Xunuo cast a meaningful glance at Zhu Xiu.
This glance was not something everyone could comprehend, but evidently, some understood it instantly. A cultivator quickly took an exquisite Yin Soul Stone and replaced the weakened Yin Soul Stone on the Formation Flag. Currently, Xunuo's main body was being used as the Main Array Flag. Fortunately, Xunuo's Divine Sense was powerful enough to communicate with all eighteen Formation Flags simultaneously.
At the moment the exquisite Yin Soul Stone was replaced on the Formation Flag, Xunuo habitually shook his hand but then realized it was unnecessary; even if he shook it, it would only affect himself.
With a thought, the side of the array under his control suddenly paused. At the same time, the entire array's defensive Yellow Light dimmed instantly, and the Yellow Light on Xunuo's side vanished completely. The whole array was on the brink of collapse.
Xunuo did not stop there; he waved his hand and shifted the Formation Flags within this Sub-Array to a strange position. In the next moment, a red beam shot straight down toward the ground from this Sub-Array. Then all eighteen Formation Flags shattered simultaneously.
The distance of this shift exceeded Xunuo's Divine Sense range. Shaking his head to dispel the dizziness from the movement, he realized that his surroundings were equally dire. They had moved far from that expansive space resembling a city and were now in a corridor. In other words, there had been no significant deviation in their direction; his group was now on a retreat path.
However, they were clearly deeper within the Barrier Space than when they first entered. Surrounding them were numerous Yin Soul Beasts densely packed together as if gathered for a market, among which three particularly stood out with their Foundation Establishment Stage cultivation.
These Yin Soul Beasts were evidently unprepared for the sudden appearance of this group of Human Clan Cultivators; to them, it seemed like a miracle.
While these Yin Soul Beasts remained bewildered, Mei Sanli and the others unleashed their magical artifacts with lightning speed. Of course, those cultivators who acted were those who had promptly grasped Xunuo's intentions. Meanwhile, those who failed to understand Xunuo's plan in time were also transported out but were instantly torn apart by the nearby Yin Soul Beasts.
