However, this moment of relaxation was short-lived. Soon, endless Yin Soul Beasts surged forth like a tide, from which emerged four fully formed Yin Soul Beasts.
Among these four Yin Soul Beasts, two were humanoid, one resembled a black bear, and the last one looked like a vulture. Yet, these four Yin Soul Beasts had no trace of illusion; their surfaces were pitch black, with skin and fur that appeared real. They looked undeniably alive.
Xunuo's Divine Sense probed and discovered that they all possessed the cultivation level of peak Foundation Establishment stage. It seemed that the four Yin Soul Beasts had initially deemed it beneath them to intervene, but now, seeing that their fellow Yin Soul Beasts could not resolve the situation quickly, they chose to join the fray.
The four-layered formation set up by the cultivators had the capability to withstand attacks from four peak Foundation Establishment cultivators if placed outside. It might even harness the power of the Heaven and Earth Four Killing Formation to slay one or two of them. However, in this Yin Sha environment, even defense was difficult to maintain.
Mei Sanli's expression darkened to its limits as he muttered a few words under his breath before suddenly summoning the Golden Spear. At the same time, four magical artifacts followed closely behind the Golden Spear, charging out of the formation towards the vulture-like Yin Soul Beast.
Mei Sanli naturally intended to concentrate his power to either kill or severely injure one of them first. From appearances, the vulture-like Yin Soul Beast seemed to have the weakest defense among them.
The Golden Spear flashed as it struck the Vulture Soul Beast. The Vulture Soul Beast let out a strange cry; one of its wings, several meters long, swept through the air and collided with the Golden Spear. A loud clang echoed as the Golden Spear was sent flying back. The Vulture Soul Beast also lost several feathers in the process. It staggered slightly before using its other wing to bat away the four magical artifacts that followed.
The Vulture Soul Beast seemed to feel pain; it screeched and unleashed a five-meter-long dark feather arrow that crashed into the outermost Defensive Array.
The outermost Defensive Array was set up by Xunuo. Upon being struck by this dark feather arrow, it immediately shook violently. Xunuo noticed that after being hit by this Vulture Soul Beast, the spirit stones embedded in the Formation Flag turned dull and lifeless. He quickly replaced them with new spirit stones but his expression grew even more serious.
The power of this attack exceeded Xunuo's expectations; judging by its effects, even this four-layered formation would struggle to hold for long. Moreover, the combined attack from five leaders including Mei Sanli had not inflicted significant damage on the Vulture Soul Beast. With no way to attack effectively and unable to defend properly, it seemed likely they would soon be overwhelmed.
Xunuo steeled himself and said to Fang Tooth and others, "Please lend me your strength."
Fang Tooth paused slightly before turning to his fellow cultivators and saying, "Get ready to assist Xue Dao You together."
Xunuo summoned the Heavenly Shadow Spike, which naturally did not escape the notice of these seasoned cultivators. They almost instantly recognized it as a set of magical artifacts particularly suited for use in a Yin Sha environment. However, these old-timers also understood that Xunuo currently lacked the strength to activate this set of artifacts. Even if others provided him with spiritual energy, his condition made it difficult for him to support an attack utilizing the hidden functions of this Set of Magical Artifacts. If Xunuo were to hand over this set of artifacts without enough time for others to reforge them, they would remain unusable.
Given what Xunuo said, Fang Tooth naturally agreed to cooperate fully. This strike was bound to yield results; however, what condition Xunuo would be in afterward was uncertain. Thus, they needed to work together wholeheartedly so that Xunuo could unleash all his power in this strike.
Xunuo was not foolish enough to use his own body as a conduit for spiritual energy. While doing so could activate the hidden functions of Heavenly Shadow Spike for a shocking blow, it would also result in him suffering severe injuries and losing all ability for self-defense.
Xunuo planned to take a middle ground approach: using one magical artifact as a conduit for spiritual energy while he only provided a portion of it himself to connect this artifact with Heavenly Shadow Spike. This way, Xunuo could primarily focus on providing Divine Sense to guide Heavenly Shadow Spike in its attack.
The current issue was that even providing this minimal amount of spiritual energy would further harm Xunuo's already injured meridians. After silently healing along their journey, he was now able to summon Heavenly Shadow Spike for some simple stabbing actions.
However, connecting the two artifacts to unleash the hidden attributes of the Heavenly Shadow Spike would definitely exceed Xunuo's current capabilities. Xunuo shook his head slightly, dismissing these hesitant thoughts.
He patted his storage bag, and a small green stone seal flew out, hovering above Xunuo's head. The Six Heavenly Shadow Darts quietly floated around the green stone seal. Xunuo glanced at Fang Tooth and said, "Please, Fang Tooth Friend, channel your mana into this seal."
Fang Tooth nodded and raised his hands to transfer his mana. Suddenly, a loud crash echoed. Looking up, they saw that the four Yin Soul Beasts had simultaneously struck the formation, destroying the outermost Defensive Array.
Fang Tooth's face turned pale as he turned to several cultivators behind him and said, "Everyone, attack together to assist Xue Dao You in achieving success."
Instantly, seven cultivators acted in unison, channeling their mana into the Zhenjiang Seal. The Zhenjiang Seal swelled rapidly like it was being inflated, quickly growing into a massive green stone seal thirty feet wide. It emitted a faint Azure Light while releasing a chilling pressure, hovering above Xunuo like a small mountain.
Xunuo stared in astonishment at the giant seal, never expecting the Zhenjiang Seal to possess such great power. At that moment, he finally felt some confidence and smiled slightly as he commanded, "Seal."
With a whoosh, the Zhenjiang Seal flew out of the formation and landed with a loud crash at the center of the space, instantly crushing over ten unsuspecting Yin Soul Beasts beneath it.
The four Foundation Establishment Stage Yin Soul Beasts remained unfazed and simultaneously reached for the Zhenjiang Seal.
Xunuo sneered and clenched his right hand tightly. The Six Heavenly Shadow Darts floating around the Zhenjiang Seal merged into one, transforming into a Purple Great Halberd. With just a slight tremor, this Purple Great Halberd shattered the four massive hands formed from mana.
At this moment, the four Yin Soul Beasts looked at the halberd with expressions of shock. Meanwhile, Xunuo's gaze toward the Purple Great Halberd was filled with uncertainty.
This halberd was only fifteen feet long; in stark contrast to the swollen Zhenjiang Seal filled with mana, it appeared condensed. Moreover, it no longer shimmered with purple light as before. Although it still showed a purple hue, its brilliance was now reined in, revealing hints of black within. From afar, it resembled an iron spear standing there without any apparent threat.
The four Yin Soul Beasts grew increasingly tense as if facing an overwhelming enemy.
In the next moment, they all turned their heads toward the formation, their eyes filled with endless killing intent directed at Xunuo. The intelligence of Yin Soul Beasts far surpassed that of ordinary beasts. These particular ones were comparable to Foundation Stage Cultivators and possessed intelligence nearly on par with humans.
Furthermore, their sensitivity to the power of Yin Attribute Artifacts exceeded that of Xunuo as the artifact's master. Realizing they could not withstand this artifact's might, they simultaneously shifted their focus onto its wielder.
With a roar, the four Yin Soul Beasts lunged toward the formation. Xunuo did not dare to relax; pointing at the Purple Great Halberd, he softly commanded, "Slice."
What happened next was beyond Xunuo's expectations.
The Purple Great Halberd trembled violently before emitting a dazzling Purple Light. After this burst of light faded away from the Zhenjiang Seal emerged a gigantic beast measuring thirty feet long.
This beast had a bull's head and horse's body with dragon claws covered in purple scales. Three faint purple flames flickered atop its head and along its sides. If not for its two curved horns atop its head, Xunuo would have almost exclaimed "Qilin."
The Bull-headed Behemoth lifted its head to glance at the four Yin Soul Beasts. With a flicker of its three clusters of Purple Flame, the Bull-headed Behemoth appeared behind a Humanoid Shadow Beast.
This Humanoid Shadow Beast, whether sensing something or having been aware of the threat all along, reacted instantly. It turned around, flipping its hands, and two black wind balls shot towards the Bull-headed Behemoth. The Bull-headed Behemoth lowered its head, using its curved horns to deflect the wind balls, causing them to explode.
In the next moment, the Bull-headed Behemoth appeared before the Humanoid Shadow Beast. It stood upright, one massive claw came crashing down while the other claw plunged directly into the Humanoid Shadow Beast's chest as if it were grabbing tofu.
The Humanoid Shadow Beast let out a terrible howl, and a cloud of black smoke surged towards the Bull-headed Behemoth. Unfazed, the Bull-headed Behemoth opened its mouth wide and swallowed the black smoke. However, it was not merely consuming the smoke; in one gulp, it devoured both the smoke and half of the Humanoid Shadow Beast's body.
Instantly, thick, ink-like blood flowed from the remnants of the Humanoid Shadow Beast, releasing a strange and foul odor. Yet, the Bull-headed Behemoth seemed to relish this scent; it extended its tongue to lick up the black blood and swallowed it down. With another bite, it consumed the remaining half of the Humanoid Shadow Beast.
This act left Xunuo, the owner of this magical artifact, utterly shocked. While transformation was seen in some powerful artifacts, achieving such realism and executing such complex attacks in transformed form was unheard of for Xunuo.
After swallowing the Humanoid Shadow Beast, the Bull-headed Behemoth grew even more arrogant and let out a tremendous roar that echoed through the air. Upon hearing this roar, Xunuo's expression stiffened. He thought to himself that this roar lacked power. It turned out that this Ox-Head Behemoth emitted a sound akin to a cow's bellow.
Following its roar, the Ox-Head Behemoth did not make any further moves but merely turned its massive head towards Xunuo. Xunuo understood that this seemingly biological Ox-Head Behemoth was merely an artifact in transformed form and did not possess true intelligence.
However, Xunuo found himself in a dilemma. He had not anticipated that Heavenly Shadow Spike would undergo such a transformation.
According to his previous plan, Xunuo had intended to forcefully unleash Heavenly Shadow Spike's hidden attributes for three to five strikes with some confidence. At least he believed he could avoid damaging his Meridian beyond repair.
Even with three or five strikes, while there was no guarantee he could eliminate all four Foundation Establishment Stage Yin Soul Beasts, those that survived would undoubtedly be severely injured. The subsequent problems would have to be left for Mei Sanli and others to resolve.
