Later, Xunuo continuously leveled up, and his confidence in Divine Sense soared. However, he forgot a method he had already comprehended long ago. It was only when his Divine Sense ran out today that he remembered this approach. Nevertheless, what he picked up was still his own wisdom.
Xunuo had no time to dwell on it. He silently urged his mana into the Five Flag Array.
The conversion between Divine Sense and mana was something Xunuo was quite familiar with. The mana quickly replaced most of the work of Divine Sense. With Divine Sense guiding and mana doing the work, the tension regarding Divine Sense was greatly alleviated.
However, the excessive consumption of Divine Sense in the previous days took its toll. Even with Divine Sense only bearing a small part of the burden moving forward, it was still extremely taxing. Having taken a wrong turn earlier, Xunuo found himself unable to reverse the situation and could only hold on as best as he could.
The next few days passed in torment for Xunuo. The near-exhaustion of his Divine Sense directly resulted in a foggy mind, as if a giant pain pierced through his Sea of Consciousness like iron rods. Fortunately, Xunuo gritted his teeth and persevered, completing the formation just as his consciousness began to blur.
Xunuo had no mood to admire the Formation Flags; he immediately dove into the Sea of Consciousness. The shimmering surface of the Sea of Consciousness had already reached its bottom. The point of light at the center was slightly dimmer than before. However, compared to the nearly depleted waters of the Sea of Consciousness, it appeared much more robust. The dark clouds above were now surging, almost pressing down heavily. The surrounding darkness reclaimed much of its territory.
Xunuo silently surveyed his surroundings before turning back and exiting the Sea of Consciousness to meditate and recover. The recovery of Divine Sense lagged far behind that of mana, and there were no shortcuts available. He could not rely on spirit stones or other items for rapid recovery. By the time the Array Master Assessment concluded and the doors to the five Geothermal Chambers opened simultaneously, Xunuo still looked quite unwell as he walked out.
The Array Master overseeing the assessment was also an Eleventh Layer Cultivator. Seeing Xunuo's condition startled him, and he hurriedly asked what had happened. Xunuo felt embarrassed to admit that he had exhausted his Divine Sense due to carelessness and foolishness. He could only hand over the completed Five Flag Array and sit down nearby to rest with closed eyes.
The Array Master examined the formation crafted by Xunuo and sighed in relief, saying, "Zhang Daoist, refining the Five Flag Array simultaneously must have greatly drained your Mind Power. With this capability, you naturally deserve your position as an Array Master. Congratulations, Zhang Daoist."
The others were somewhat astonished but upon seeing Xunuo's state felt that such an achievement wasn't worth it after all. However, they knew they couldn't accomplish what he had done, so they came over to congratulate him.
In truth, this Array Master's entrance examination was not difficult at all. This time only one Cultivator failed to pass; the other four successfully entered the Magic Circle Masters Guild. The three Cultivators were naturally ecstatic as they headed off to report to the Magic Circle Masters Guild. Xunuo returned directly to the Three Star Underground City Cave to slowly recover his Mind Power.
Two months later, Xunuo's Mind Power had barely recovered to more than half. Although the Array Master Assessment had left him in a dire state, it also instilled confidence in him regarding the crafting of magic circles. No amount of careful thought or diligent practice could compare to the reality of a live trial. The gains were incomparable. It was like a saying from Xunuo's hometown: seeing something a hundred times is not as good as doing it once.
Xunuo transformed into a middle-aged cultivator with yellow skin and arrived at the headquarters of the Three Star City Array Master Guild. The cultivator who led the team for the Array Master Assessment took Xunuo directly into the Magic Circle Masters Guild.
This was an enormous building in Three Star City. The outer structure resembled a castle with three layers, enclosing a vast open space. It felt like an independent kingdom within Three Star City. In the center of the open area stood a tall tower, seven stories high and entirely made of white jade, majestic and sacred. Surrounding the castle-like buildings were gardens filled with scenic views every ten steps and breathtaking sights every hundred steps. Lush trees provided shade, flowers bloomed vibrantly, waterfalls cascaded from above, and cranes danced gracefully. It was as if one had entered a celestial paradise.
Xunuo was captivated by the beauty. The guiding cultivator did not rush him. After Xunuo had taken in enough of the scenery, he led him to a room on the second floor. This room was exceptionally spacious, with a round table occupying two-thirds of its area. On the table stood the Five Flag Array, which was precisely the dual-element Killing Formation that Xunuo had crafted.
Several individuals dressed in loose robes were gathered around the formation, discussing and evaluating it. Upon noticing Xunuo's arrival, they all fell silent. One elder practitioner, who appeared to be in charge, smiled at Xunuo and said, "Zhang Huanqiang, your skills are remarkable; to have crafted such a formation during your entrance assessment speaks volumes about your potential."
Xunuo quickly lowered his head in modesty and replied, "Thank you for your praise."
Using his Divine Sense to probe further, Xunuo noticed that among the cultivators present, aside from one at Foundation Stage level ten, the other five were all at eleven layers or higher. He couldn't help but feel astonished: could it be that all the cultivators in this Magic Circle Masters Guild were at high or peak Foundation Stage?
The Elder Practitioner continued, "Has Sikong Hong'en introduced you to some of the rules of the Magic Circle Masters Guild?"
Xunuo paused for a moment before shaking his head in confusion. The cultivator who accompanied him chuckled and said, "Zhang Daoist was so absorbed in admiring the scenery that he didn't have time to listen to my introduction."
The Elder Practitioner laughed as well and said, "No worries; I will take this opportunity to explain some benefits of our Magic Circle Masters Guild to Zhang Daoist."
Xunuo quickly clasped his hands in gratitude. The other cultivators also seemed unoccupied and settled onto several meditation cushions, engaging in conversation about the history and regulations of the Magic Circle Masters Guild.
First came an explanation of the guild's origins. The Magic Circle Masters Guild evolved from the Artifact Masters Guild. Although both magic circles and artifacts belong to crafting disciplines, they gradually diverged in terms of Rune development, leading to two distinct systems. Ultimately, their separation into two guilds was an inevitable outcome.
Over the years, among the many Guilds in Three Star City, three major Guilds emerged: Alchemy, Refining, and Magic Circle Masters. While other Guilds also possess considerable strength, none can shake the status of these three giants in terms of scale or influence.
Xunuo asked, "Does that mean the Magic Circle Masters Guild is one of the most powerful organizations in Three Star City?"
The Elder Practitioner waved his hand dismissively. "Not quite. The power structure of Three Star City is dominated by the Three Major Sects at the top. They can determine the power dynamics and influence within Three Star City. Following them are the Five Merchant Alliances. With their long history and deep roots, they can sway the decisions made by the Three Major Sects to some extent. Only after that do we have our three major Guilds and a few other Guild organizations. We Alchemists, Refiners, and the Magic Circle Masters Guild control most of the material trade with Mars City and the Geothermal Vein, as well as much of Demon Star City's resources. However, we have little say in the main city of Three Star City."
Xunuo nodded thoughtfully.
