Xunuo let out a cold laugh, unafraid of the intimidation from the three fellow Cultivators. However, the practitioners of the Rotating Illumination Period in Gaoyi City made him hesitate. The main reason was that these three Evil Cultivators held a promissory note, giving them an advantage in reasoning. It seemed that the rules of Gaoyi City favored them, leaving Xunuo with no choice but to refrain from confrontation.
Yet, Xunuo had decided yesterday to resolve this issue; it didn't matter when these Three Cultivators came for him. With a flick of his wrist, he sent a Porcelain Bottle flying toward the leader of the Evil Cultivators. Xunuo coldly stated, "Today, we will settle this debt. If you disturb me again, do not blame me for being merciless."
The leader of the Evil Cultivators grabbed the Porcelain Bottle and opened it, his eyes lighting up instantly. He then turned the bottle upside down, revealing a round pill in his palm. The other two Evil Cultivators leaned in to take a look and exclaimed, "A High-Quality Unity Pill!"
Xunuo snorted coldly and said, "This pill is enough to cover the previous debt. I hope not to see your faces again. No need for further farewells."
The leader of the Evil Cultivators laughed heartily as he pocketed the Unity Pill. His greedy eyes roamed over Qi Zilan and her daughter, clearly unsatisfied. After a moment, he said, "Consider this pill as interest for one day. But to clear the debt entirely? I fear that may never happen in this lifetime. You two should clean yourselves up and prepare to serve me; that is only reasonable."
Upon hearing this, Qi Jiazheng turned pale with rage. He shouted, "I have only received one Unity Pill from you; it has not yet reached the repayment deadline! You are deliberately making things difficult because my son has yet to advance; where is this talk of interest coming from?"
The leader of the Evil Cultivators chuckled sinisterly and replied, "Old Qi, have you lost your mind? You signed the promissory note yourself; how could you forget its contents? Let me show you again so you can't say I tricked you." With that, he tossed a jade slip to Qi Jiazheng.
After reading the jade slip, Qi Jiazheng cried out hoarsely, "This is not the promissory note I signed! You are conspiring to deceive me!"
Seeing this unfold, Xunuo realized something had gone terribly wrong; otherwise, Qi Jiazheng would not have lost control like this. Grabbing the jade slip himself, Xunuo's anger ignited upon reading its contents.
He did not know under what circumstances this promissory note had been signed, but it was clearly a scam. The note contained a clause that no one could agree to: every day would incur an interest of one Unity Pill while only one Unity Pill had been borrowed.
Xunuo's face turned icy as his magical energy surged forth, filling the courtyard with killing intent. The three Evil Cultivators instinctively stepped back at the sight. Unfazed, they declared, "This promissory note has signatures from both guarantor and intermediary; both parties are clear on their agreement. If you dare commit murder here, the enforcers of Gaoyi City will swiftly eliminate you. I would be quite pleased to see you perish on the spot."
Qi Zilan rushed to Xunuo, tears streaming down her face as she pleaded, "Young Master Xu, you must not violate the prohibitions of Gaoyi City. If this leads to your demise, a hundred deaths would not be enough to atone for my sins. I can only repay your kindness in the next life."
Qi Jiazheng also grabbed hold of Xunuo, fully aware of the severe and unyielding nature of Gaoyi City's laws.
The leader of the Evil Cultivators coldly remarked, "Today, we will let you off with a warning after collecting some interest."
He then seemed to ponder for a moment before adding, "But do not think of escaping; we have made preparations." With that, he took out a Tracking Talisman and waved it in front of them.
Seeing this, Xunuo's eyes flickered as he suppressed his anger. He waved his hand and produced a disc-shaped magical artifact, reaching into the void and grasping several times. He spoke slowly, "Thanks for the reminder; I almost forgot to leave behind your magical energy imprint."
The three Evil Cultivators turned pale at the sight of Xunuo's Tracking Disk, their expressions twisted as if they had swallowed a fly. They exchanged glances before snorting coldly and turning to flee.
The Qi family was equally startled when they saw Xunuo produce the Tracking Disk. Such auxiliary artifacts were made from rare materials and had limited use. Only core disciples of Cultivation Sects could possess them. Even Qi Zilan, who was just beginning to understand her feelings, regarded Xunuo with newfound intrigue.
Xunuo put away the Tracking Disk and had no desire to wander around the Market. He began discussing their options for leaving with the Qi family. He did not want to simply walk away from this situation. The three Evil Cultivators had been too overbearing, even plotting against him. Xunuo strongly urged the Qi family to relocate or seek another cultivation town or move to their own Spirit Land Cave for training. The priority was to avoid this calamity. He also planned to take advantage of the three Loose Cultivators' pursuit to eliminate them once and for all.
Seeing his wife and daughter hesitating, Qi Jiazheng found himself at a loss compared to Qi Zilan's decisiveness. Qi Zilan looked at Xunuo and comforted her father, saying, "Now that our family has no foothold in Gaoyi City, how can I bear to abandon my parents and escape alone with Young Master Xu?"
She cast a meaningful glance at Xunuo and continued, "This move could be an opportunity for our family; why cling so desperately to this little foundation?"
With a long sigh, Qi Jiazheng reluctantly agreed. The three of them began preparing for their escape. Xunuo still needed to attend the auction in Gaoyi City, so they decided to set their departure for the day after the auction concluded.
Choosing this day had its advantages; once the auction ended, countless cultivators would leave Gaoyi City. Even if the three Evil Cultivators intended to block them, they would be powerless to trap the Qi family within Gaoyi City. As long as they exited Gaoyi City, Xunuo would be free to deal with those three Evil Cultivators without restraint.
The next day marked the opening of the auction in Gaoyi City. Xunuo had to leave early in the morning. Qi Zilan frowned slightly as she saw Xunuo off, and Qi Jiazheng wore a worried expression. Xunuo understood that his outing posed significant risks for their family of three, with the possibility of creditors blocking their door at any moment.
Thinking of this, Xunuo took out the Water Attribute Flying Sword and wiped away the Divine Consciousness Mark on it. He handed it to Qi Jiazheng and said, "I have only refined this Flying Sword with my Divine Sense. You can use it for self-defense today; it should be enough to scare off those three Evil Cultivators."
Although Qi Jiazheng was only at the ninth level of the Foundation Stage, he had sharp insight and immediately recognized the sword's extraordinary quality. He thanked Xunuo repeatedly. With a sense of relief, Xunuo set out for the Auction House.
Upon arrival, Xunuo found the area outside the Auction House bustling with people. Entering required handing over a spirit stone. As a Cultivator with items to auction, Xunuo could enter directly with his Certificate Jade Tablet.
Each Cultivator received a Mask upon entry. The Masks were crudely made, almost identical in design. The advantage was that their material could shield against Divine Sense. Once inside the auction hall, it was nearly impossible to discern anyone's identity beneath the Masks due to the lack of Divine Sense penetration.
This measure was implemented by the auction organizers to ensure the safety of the Cultivators, alleviating concerns that they might not survive after winning their bids.
Xunuo chose a central position on the tiered platform and soon disappeared into the sea of Cultivators.
