The greatest advantage of this Spell is that the Insect Manipulation Cultivator can cultivate their own skills while simultaneously guiding their insects to cultivate as well. Sometimes, the insects' cultivation even surpasses that of the cultivator. When facing an enemy, they can unleash the insects, effectively allowing two cultivators of similar levels to confront a single opponent. Naturally, this provides a significant advantage.
When Xunuo encountered the situation while slaying the Insect Manipulation Cultivator, it was a particularly domineering Spell from the Insect Path. This Spell requires the insects' cultivation to be higher than that of the cultivator themselves. By channeling their own magical power into the insects, they can temporarily elevate their cultivation to a higher Realm.
However, this Spell has a fatal flaw. Since the insects lack Intelligence, when transformed into insects to fight, they can only rely on their instincts to respond to threats. Moreover, using this technique even once greatly reduces the user's own cultivation level, making it a desperate tactic that could harm oneself more than the enemy.
Xunuo naturally yearned for an ally with comparable magical power. However, keeping an insect within one's body was something Xunuo found hard to accept. After some contemplation, Xunuo decided to abandon this rather distasteful Spell.
Nevertheless, Xunuo felt somewhat envious of several other Spells from the Insect Path. Having recently advanced to the tenth layer of the Basic Skill Method, Xunuo knew that a breakthrough in Realm would be difficult in the short term. Previously, Xunuo rarely focused on cultivating Spells.
One reason was that the Spells Xunuo had acquired were not particularly powerful. With limited magical power, it was challenging to unleash their full potential. In contrast, Talismans proved to be more effective. Over time, Spells had been neglected.
This time, however, Xunuo was not prepared for entering prosperous Cultivation realms like Shenmu or Southern Valley and planned to quietly cultivate here for a while. The primary reason for choosing this location was its proximity to areas rich in cultivation resources where real news could be gathered.
According to past information obtained by Xunuo, outside the Eighteen Nations surrounding the Ten Thousand Great Mountains, High-Level Practitioners were everywhere. The abundance of Cultivation Resources came with rampant bloodshed; thus, Xunuo did not dare to venture in lightly.
Based on previous experiences, Xunuo understood that cultivating Spells corresponding to one's Spiritual Root would be easier and more powerful. After careful selection, Xunuo chose three Spells as directions for recent cultivation efforts.
One was a Fire Attribute Spell called Hellfire. This attack Spell was said to be several times more powerful than Fire Manipulation Technique or Fireball spells.
Another was a Wood Attribute Spell called Vine Binding Shield. This defensive Spell could be cast over a large area or targeted at an individual. Its characteristic was that it could not be easily cut or burned away; when cast, countless vines would emerge. When ensnaring enemies, they would wrap endlessly without rest; when defending, they would form layers of vine shields.
The last one was a rather unique Spell known as Yimu Qinglei Method. This Spell possessed both Wood and Lightning Attributes. Xunuo chose it because they had witnessed an Azure Wood Fox use this Spell and had a deep understanding of its power.
Naturally, Xunuo began cultivating with Hellfire first since it seemed the most reliable. Sure enough, after a month of effort, there were small achievements. Upon testing it out, Xunuo instantly melted a boulder half their height. Laughing heartily in satisfaction, Xunuo continued their training.
After six months passed, all three Spells showed minor successes; however, more time was spent on cultivating Yimu Qinglei compared to the others.
While cultivating the Spell, Xunuo's Realm would gradually improve. However, the Spell itself would not enhance during the cultivation method; it was the mana that increased. With plenty of elixirs available, Xunuo regularly consumed them while practicing the Spell and refining the medicinal power. Thus, over the past six months, both his Spell and Realm, as well as his mana, had seen significant growth. Xunuo felt quite satisfied with this progress.
One day, a Sound Transmission Talisman suddenly appeared before Xunuo in a flash of light. He pointed with two fingers to stabilize it in front of him. Instantly, a voice echoed in his ears: "An old friend has arrived; please have Daoist Lu Zaisheng show the way."
Upon hearing this, Xunuo realized it was Nie Xiaokai, a Loose Cultivator he had met during a discussion on the mountaintop last time. This place had been recommended to him by several others. However, Xunuo had set up a Defensive Array that made it difficult for Nie Xiaokai to find his Cave after wandering around for quite some time, prompting him to send the Sound Transmission Talisman to ask for directions.
Xunuo chuckled softly. To be safe back then, he hadn't revealed his real name and had used a mundane alias instead. Now, hearing that name again brought him a sense of warmth rather than estrangement. He waved his Formation Flag, dissipating most of the array's power, and sent out another Sound Transmission Talisman.
Moments later, a young Cultivator in his twenties arrived at high speed. Xunuo stepped out to welcome him inside. The young Cultivator looked around at the solitary peak while exclaiming, "I've passed by here several times but never saw Daoist Lu's Cave. The shielding power of your formation is truly remarkable."
Xunuo smiled knowingly. He wouldn't explain that this was not merely an array to block Divine Sense but said humbly, "Daoist Nie has taken the time to visit my humble abode; your presence brightens this place. Please come in and have a seat."
Nie Xiaokai replied with a smile, "I actually have something to discuss with Daoist Lu; it's better to talk inside."
With that, they entered Xunuo's Cave. It was quite simple—just one stone chamber—but spacious enough, measuring about seven or eight zhang in length and width. A few simple furnishings like stone tables and benches were scattered about. Xunuo invited Nie Xiaokai to sit down and brewed some Spiritual Tea for him. Pouring a cup for Nie Xiaokai, he said, "Daoist Nie, please enjoy some tea."
It was important to observe these courtesies when hosting guests. Fortunately, during his time at Chaotic Mountain Valley Lin Jianfeng Valley Master’s place, Xunuo had accumulated quite a bit of Spiritual Tea that he hadn’t had the chance to enjoy himself; otherwise, he would have nothing to offer his visitor.
Nie Xiaokai took a gentle sip of the Spiritual Tea and his eyes widened in surprise. As a Loose Cultivator, he had never tasted such exquisite tea before. Ignoring its scalding heat, he tilted his head back and gulped down the entire cup in one go while repeatedly praising, "Excellent tea!"
Xunuo smiled slightly and poured him another cup of Spiritual Tea. Feeling somewhat embarrassed by his earlier actions, Nie Xiaokai took small sips while engaging in casual conversation with Xunuo. After chatting for a while, he eventually got to the point and revealed the purpose of his visit.
When Nie Xiaokai and others had introduced Xunuo to locations for establishing Caves previously, they mentioned that this forest had sparse spiritual energy; hence no Cultivators opened Caves here—its only advantage being its tranquility. Since Xunuo primarily relied on spiritual herbs for cultivation and did not have strict requirements regarding surrounding spiritual energy levels, he decided to settle here.
However, Nie Xiaokai had not disclosed the location of his own Cave because it was situated by a lake with exceptionally dense spiritual energy.
This lake was not large but was rich in spiritual energy. Five Caves had been established along its shores and occupied by five different Cultivators. According to their analysis, this Spirit Land was likely once part of Spiritual Veins that had been completely destroyed during an ancient battle between humans and demons. Although the Spiritual Veins were ruined, residual spiritual energy remained; thus cultivating here was far superior to ordinary locations.
The five Cultivators discovered this Spirit Land one after another and realized that it could easily accommodate all their cultivation needs; none possessed sufficient strength to monopolize it alone. They reached a consensus: they would jointly occupy this area while keeping their shared secret safe. They pooled resources to acquire a large formation that completely shielded this Spirit Land from outsiders' knowledge up until now.
A month ago, a Third-Grade Monster invaded this Spirit Land. After a fierce battle, the five of them were no match for the beast and were driven out of Spirit Land, suffering serious injuries in the process. The most skilled among them was merely a Foundation Stage cultivator at the ninth level. After gathering together to discuss their situation, they realized they needed to seek outside help.
Each of the five had their own network of cultivator acquaintances. However, finding assistance wasn't simply about choosing someone with a higher Realm or stronger magical power; it also depended on whether they could control the helper. They didn't want to end up in a situation where they rejected one threat only to invite another. After careful consideration, they decided to choose three cultivators at the tenth level of Basic Skill Method as their external support.
These three were all reclusive practitioners who kept to themselves and were not arrogant or overbearing. Even if they ended up staying longer than expected, it wouldn't significantly impact the original five. The five were wise enough to understand that while it's easy to invite a deity, sending them away is another matter entirely.
Xunuo was the first choice for external support among the five. As an outsider cultivator, joining such a small group would foster a sense of belonging and connection with them. Of course, Nie Xiaokai wouldn't reveal any information about Spirit Land beforehand but would instead promise generous rewards and mysterious gifts.
After listening to Nie Xiaokai's words, Xunuo thought to himself: with his own abilities, he could easily slay a Third-Grade Monster alone; such a creature posed little threat to him. However, among these Loose Cultivators, it wasn't suitable to reveal his true capabilities. Taking this opportunity to test out some newly cultivated Spells seemed like a good choice. Furthermore, since he intended to stay here for a while, establishing some rapport with nearby cultivators was essential. Thus, Xunuo readily agreed.
Seeing Xunuo's enthusiastic agreement, Nie Xiaokai was extremely excited and pretended to be mysterious by saying there would be generous rewards afterward.
After agreeing on a time and place to meet with Xunuo, he took his leave. Before departing, he awkwardly smiled and not only finished the Spiritual Tea in the pot but also chewed on several tea leaves.
Xunuo understood well the poverty of Loose Cultivators and their lack of cultivation resources, so he wasn't surprised by Nie Xiaokai's actions.
A month later, Xunuo put away his formation and vanished without a trace. A few days later, on a barren mountaintop, Xunuo landed after using his escape technique.
On the mountaintop sat six cultivators. Upon seeing Xunuo arrive riding a flying talisman, they exchanged glances, uncertain about who this newcomer was. For Loose Cultivators, using a Flying Talisman for travel was almost an extravagant act; these individuals had all come here on foot.
