Xunuo turned his eyes and asked, "Daoist Dai, do you have any formation arrays for sale?"
Dai Tianqi shook his head and replied, "While crafting formation arrays is indeed a type of artifact refinement, it differs from ordinary magical tools. It is a more obscure field, and I am not well-versed in it. However, I can introduce you to a colleague, Xue Dao You. This person has exceptional skills in formation arrays and is unmatched in this area. If you wish to procure a formation array, look no further."
Although Xunuo knew that the Black Wind Old Monster would not recklessly attack him now, he still felt a lingering fear. Having a Defensive Array by his side would be invaluable. Thus, he said to Dai Tianqi, "I appreciate your help, Daoist Dai."
Dai Tianqi chuckled and first sent a Sound Transmission Talisman before leading Xunuo to a hilly area. The hills stretched endlessly. Standing at the edge of the hill, Dai Tianqi laughed heartily and called out, "Li Dao You, are you not going to open the door to welcome guests? Do I have to force my way in?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the undulating hills shifted and transformed into a vast jungle. A middle-aged cultivator with thick brows and a broad mouth stood among the trees, smiling as he said, "I've been waiting for you, Daoist Dai. This young friend looks unfamiliar; could he be new here?"
Dai Tianqi introduced the two men. The middle-aged cultivator was named Li Zai, a significant figure among the Refiners of Chaotic Valley, renowned for his expertise in crafting formation arrays. After some brief pleasantries, Li Zai invited both of them into his Cave.
Although Xunuo was not skilled in formation arrays, he could tell that the array outside Li Zai's Cave was fundamentally different from his own. The array that manifested the hill was imperceptible from outside; it appeared just like a real hill. Even when probing with Divine Sense, one would only sense mountains all around. However, stepping inside this array evoked an inexplicable terror as if danger lurked everywhere with hidden foes.
Li Zai's Cave was located at the base of a mountain in the center of this jungle. Instead of excavating within the mountain for his Cave, he had built a tall tower on the hillside. On the highest floor of the tower, the three sat down while several attendants served hot tea and fresh fruit.
Li Zai looked at Xunuo and smiled, saying, "Since you are an Alchemist, we need not stand on ceremony. In Chaotic Valley, those of us engaged in Alchemy and artifact refinement are generally superior to those rougher folk. At least we are mostly cultured individuals and do not draw swords at first sight like those brutes."
Xunuo smiled in return and asked about his protective mountain formation. Naturally, when discussing his strengths, Li Zai became animated and boasted about it. His protective mountain formation was one of his most powerful arrays.
First of all, this formation's Illusion Array was incomparable to Xunuo's own array. From the outside, it appeared as just another hill for concealment purposes. Yet once inside, countless illusions unfolded; without understanding this array, one would have no idea where they were.
Additionally, this formation had two other functions: defense and trapping enemies. As long as the formation was fully activated, cultivators below the Foundation Establishment Stage could not enter at all. Even Foundation Stage cultivators would find it quite challenging to break through this array. Hearing this made Xunuo's heart race with excitement as he inquired about the price of this formation.
Li Zai said, "I will not sell this formation, as I still need it to protect the Cave. However, I do have several other formations that I can transfer to you if Xue Dao You is interested."
Upon hearing this, Xunuo nodded and replied, "Of course, a gentleman does not take what others cherish. Please, Li Daoyou, select a formation that is not too far off from this one to show me."
Li Zai took out three formations in succession, but Xunuo shook his head in silence. These formations were undoubtedly powerful compared to Xunuo's current ones, but they paled in comparison to Li Zai's mountain protection formation.
Xunuo was primarily concerned about the Black Wind Old Monster. If the power of the formation was lacking, it would be virtually useless. If it were only meant for warning purposes, his own formation could serve that function just as well. There was no need to spend a large sum on this somewhat mediocre formation.
Seeing Xunuo repeatedly shake his head in silence, Li Zai grew a bit impatient. "These formations can stand alone against enemies. They are more than sufficient for maintaining the mountain gate. Does Xue Dao You have any other requirements?"
Xunuo did not believe that Li Zai only had one powerful formation. After some thought, he said, "These formations are indeed weaker than the one you use to protect your mountain gate. I believe you must have stronger ones as well."
Li Zai chuckled and glanced at Dai Tianqi. Dai Tianqi quickly waved his hands and said, "I am wronged; I haven't said anything."
Li Zai smiled but did not respond directly. He turned to Xunuo and said, "I do have another formation here called the Three Talents Confining Dragon Formation. Due to the rarity of its materials and the difficulty of refining it, I have only managed to create one set. If Xue Dao You is interested, I could consider transferring it, but the price will be higher; I'm afraid it may be difficult for you to accept."
Xunuo felt a bit tempted upon hearing this and asked, "Could you please demonstrate this formation for me?"
Li Zai nodded and replied, "Follow me."
With that, he led Xunuo and Dai Tianqi out of the tower and away from the dense forest until they reached an open area with low trees.
Li Zai took out six pieces of Formation and a Formation Flag. He tossed the Formation pieces into position and then waved the Formation Flag. Instantly, the area within sight was enveloped by the formation.
Three people stood at the center of the formation. The surrounding environment changed rapidly, transforming into a mountain valley, a desert, a dense forest, or the deep ocean, all feeling incredibly real.
Li Zai noticed that Xunuo was lost in thought and chuckled as he waved the Formation Flag. In an instant, Xunuo found himself in another part of the formation.
Startled, Xunuo felt his magical power moving sluggishly, making it difficult to act. Before he could react, a dark cloud appeared above him, followed by countless wind blades whistling toward him. Without hesitation, Xunuo shook his body, and the Armor Artifact instantly covered him. The next moment, the wind blades struck against him with a clanging sound. Xunuo quickly channeled his magical power, causing the Armor Artifact to emit a black glow that deflected the wind blades. Before he could catch his breath, the dark cloud rumbled and unleashed numerous fist-sized Thunder Balls. Xunuo hurriedly pushed his magical power to its limits to fend off each Thunder Ball one by one. Just as he managed to repel them, a sudden chill swept through the area as countless ice blades spiraled toward him.
The relentless attacks came in quick succession. Xunuo had no time to think or devise a way to counter the formation; he could only dodge these assaults. With a loud shout, he prepared to unleash the Heavenly Shadow Spike to eliminate Li Zai, who was controlling the formation. However, he suddenly felt himself loosen up and found himself back at the center of the formation beside Dai Tianqi and Li Zai.
Li Zai sensed Xunuo's murderous intent and quickly explained, "Xue Dao You, please calm down. I know your Armor Artifact has incredible defensive power. I wanted you to personally experience the might of this formation. Besides, with my Main Array Flag in hand, I can instantly activate or deactivate the Killing Formation or even move you away. You will not be in any danger."
Hearing this, Xunuo realized that Li Zai was speaking truthfully. He had secured a spot in formal Alchemy; not even a mere Refiner or leaders of the three major factions would seek trouble with him. However, being toyed with like this left Xunuo extremely displeased. He replied coldly, "If you hadn't stopped in time, I can't guarantee I wouldn't have acted rashly."
Li Zai chuckled and said, "This formation is a combination of Defense Formation, Trapping Formation, and Killing Formation. Even if you strike while trapped inside, it would be difficult to harm me. If spirit stones were embedded within this formation, its power would increase significantly. The person controlling the formation from outside can attack with magical artifacts; trapping and killing a Foundation Stage Cultivator is certainly not impossible."
Xunuo was somewhat astonished by this revelation. After experiencing its power firsthand just moments ago, he eagerly inquired about the price for transferring this formation.
Although Li Zai was reluctant to sell it, being stuck at the ninth level of Basic Skill Method forced him to seek Unity Pills to break through his Realm. Given Xunuo's identity as an Alchemist and his status in formal Alchemy, Li Zai decided to make this trade with him. After some thought, Li Zai stated, "For this formation, I will need at least three Unity Pills in exchange."
Upon hearing this, Xunuo felt frustrated; he had initially planned to trade using spirit stones. This exchange wasn't unreasonable since he actually possessed Unity Pills. However, Xunuo would never reveal this detail in Chaotic Valley. The value of Unity Pills in Chaotic Valley far exceeded their worth outside; only the materials were cheap.
