After a while, all the Alchemists who signed up for the trial had arrived. The leaders of the three major factions and several Alchemists stepped forward. One by one, they called out the names of the participating Alchemists to choose their Alchemical Platforms and prepare. Then, with a single command, the trial began.
This pill trial was conducted in the same manner as the weapon refining, utilizing the fire source from the Crimson Fire Ant. However, today’s concoction was Poison Dan, which held no practical use. It was merely a test of each Alchemist's Alchemy skills.
Xunuo, having refined materials for magical tools using the Crimson Fire Ant before, was not unfamiliar with this process. He quickly entered the state of Alchemy. There were dozens of Alchemists participating in the Trial Dan Conference, but fewer than twenty managed to produce pills. The final evaluation of the pills was decided by five Alchemists. Xunuo ranked third and successfully made it onto the official Alchemy list.
When this list was announced, Black Wind Old Monster's expression turned exceptionally grim. He never expected Xunuo to succeed in the Trial Dan Conference. However, he also understood the transcendent status of Alchemists in Chaotic Valley. Seeing that even his only remaining enemy could not be dealt with directly, Black Wind Old Monster glared at Xunuo for a moment before roaring in anger and swiftly returning to Chaotic Valley.
The Heavenly Dragon Society immediately proposed that Xunuo, being a new Alchemist from outside, should be recommended by them. Furthermore, all materials for formal Alchemy would be provided by the Heavenly Dragon Society.
Regarding the Heavenly Dragon Society's recommendation of Xunuo, other factions could only express disdain but had nothing else to say. However, when the Heavenly Dragon Society requested to provide Xunuo with Alchemy materials, the five judging Alchemists responded without hesitation. They then inquired whether Xunuo could allow others to supply materials.
Xunuo thought for a moment and realized that Chaotic Valley produced at most twenty batches of Unity Pill each year. He was quite confident in his ability to refine it but knew it would not simply belong to him. Rather than compete for this Unity Pill himself, it would be better to let another faction provide the materials and stay out of it entirely.
Thus, he said to those five Alchemists, “I am currently short on resources; if Grandmaster is willing to provide materials, that would indeed be a good choice.”
The five Alchemists stared at Xunuo for a moment, and seeing that he showed no signs of regret, they settled on this matter. The trial meeting then came to an end.
Xi Dao Jing approached Xunuo with a smile and said, “If Xue Dao You has no suitable place to stay, you are welcome to reside at my inn.”
Xunuo patted his storage bag and replied, “I’m afraid I won’t be able to stay long due to limited funds.”
"Xie Dao Jing" said, "Xue Dao You, you are being too polite. Our bond of life and death means that as long as we keep it going, there’s no need for you to offer your spirit stones."
"Dai Tianqi" coldly replied, "Since Xue Dao You is on the Alchemy list, he can naturally open a Cave outside the main peak. How could he still be cooped up in your inn? Old Master Xi has already taken great advantage. Do you intend to recruit Xue Dao You under your banner?"

Xunuo noticed that Dai Tianqi seemed somewhat annoyed and asked about the reason behind it. Dai Tianqi explained the rules regarding the Chaotic Valley. First, both Alchemists and Refiners in the Chaotic Valley can choose a location with relatively dense Spiritual Energy to open a Cave.
The area with the densest Spiritual Energy in the Chaotic Valley is at the three main peaks. Beyond that, the Spiritual Energy gradually thins out. The outer areas are permitted for use, but only Alchemists and Refiners from the Chaotic Valley are allowed to open Caves for cultivation there. For example, Dai Tianqi has a Cave beneath one of the main peaks where he usually cultivates. He only comes to the Market, where Cultivators gather, when dealing with miscellaneous tasks like refining tools. Even someone like Xie Dao Jing, who controls a significant force, does not have the qualification to open a Cave beneath the main peak.
Upon hearing this, Xunuo immediately decided to open his own Cave for cultivation. Since within the Chaotic Valley, the Black Wind Old Monster would not dare to harm him recklessly, Xunuo wanted to stay as far away from others' control as possible. By opening his own Cave and supplementing it with array power, he would have much more freedom.
Moreover, during formal Alchemy sessions, it is not like today where only one Unity Pill is refined per furnace. Instead, more than ten portions of materials for Unity Pills can be thrown into the furnace simultaneously. This way, one furnace can produce over ten Unity Pills at once. In the Chaotic Valley, there have been instances where fifteen pills were produced from ten portions of materials.
At first, Xunuo was taken aback by this information. However, after careful consideration, he realized that this method was indeed feasible. Typically outside during Alchemy sessions, what is cherished are the Alchemy materials while there are no concerns about fire veins. Therefore, they refine one portion of material at a time. Even if it takes more time, as long as three or five portions yield one pill, it would be profitable.
In contrast, in the Chaotic Valley, medicinal materials are relatively abundant but geothermal vein resources are limited. This forces these Alchemists to adopt a method of refining multiple pills in one furnace. Although this increases difficulty and decreases success rates, refining one furnace can yield over ten Unity Pills. For instance, last year they managed to refine five furnaces of Unity Pills and obtained over sixty pills in total—a considerable quantity.
Xunuo thought about this method of refining multiple pills in one furnace and understood its key points. The process of Alchemy is quite similar whether producing one pill or multiple pills; the challenge lies in pill production itself. Merging one portion of medicinal material is fundamentally similar to merging ten portions; it just requires higher Mind Power. It may also require some magical power to make the process easier. However, during pill production, complete reliance on Mind Power is necessary to evenly distribute medicinal properties into more than ten parts for separate pill production.
Generally speaking, when one portion of medicinal material yields one pill, its medicinal properties are more than sufficient. Any excess properties are consumed during production. However, this method of merging and separating pills maximizes the use of remaining medicinal properties. Producing over ten additional pills means fully utilizing those leftover properties and significantly reducing waste. Yet during production, controlling each Unity Pill's medicinal properties while minimizing waste demands a high level of skill from Alchemists.
If there are insufficient properties, a pill cannot be formed; if there are too many properties, fewer pills will result. Unlike refining just one Unity Pill per furnace—whereas once it's successfully refined it guarantees at least one pill—this step becomes much easier during production. Xunuo felt somewhat confident about earlier purification and merging processes but had no confidence whatsoever regarding this final step of pill production.
Then Dai Tianqi brought up another matter that made Xunuo feel regretful. The alchemy had officially failed, leaving everyone speechless and resigned to their misfortune. If successful, five Unity Pills were to be delivered to the Foundation Stage Cultivator of Chaotic Valley. This was also the reason why Chaotic Valley's Foundation Stage Cultivator supported the Alchemist. The three major factions would each receive one Unity Pill. Those who recommended someone would receive one Unity Pill, and those who provided materials would also get one Unity Pill. The remaining Unity Pills would belong to the Alchemist.
At that moment, Xunuo finally understood why Xi Dao Jing was so eager to provide materials. This meant that as long as he succeeded in alchemy, Xi Dao Jing could obtain three Unity Pills from him. Xunuo cast a somewhat frustrated glance at Xi Dao Jing, who smiled back at him with an air of calmness.
