Xunuo noticed that even the way he referred to himself had changed. Acknowledging his skills in refining materials, he smiled and nodded, saying, "Daoist Dai, just focus on studying the Rune; I can handle these rough tasks."
After saying this, both of them concentrated, as if entering a meditative state.
Days later, nine types of refined materials were neatly arranged before Dai Tianqi. After carefully inspecting them, Dai Tianqi nodded in satisfaction. He said to Xunuo, "Let's have Xue Daoyou assist me in merging the materials. My two disciples are better suited for capturing the Crimson Fire Ants."
Xunuo agreed with a nod. The two disciples looked embarrassed and turned to continue their task of capturing the Crimson Fire Ants.
Twenty days later, Xunuo stood in the Desert Sea wearing a majestic black armor. Dai Tianqi wielded a fiery red spear artifact and struck at Xunuo. With a thunderous sound, the spear flew back. Xunuo was knocked back several feet but found no trace left on his smooth chestplate. Excitedly, Xunuo let out a long howl and thanked Dai Tianqi with a respectful gesture.
This repair could be said to have fully restored the artifact's power. Xunuo felt more confident about leaving the Chaotic Valley alive this time. Moreover, due to Xunuo's involvement, the speed of the armor's repair had increased significantly. They still had time before the scheduled arrival of the carriage driver from the inn.
Xunuo and Dai Tianqi had no choice but to wait for the driver’s arrival. With nothing else to do, they began exchanging experiences about Alchemy. There was much common ground between them in this regard, and they found plenty to discuss.
Since Xunuo had accompanied Dai Tianqi into the Desert Sea with such high visibility, no one dared to cause trouble. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Xunuo asked about his status as a Refiner in Chaotic Valley. Dai Tianqi chuckled and introduced him to some specifics about Chaotic Valley.
Chaotic Valley had three major forces, also known as three major factions: the Black Dragon Society, Heavenly Dragon Society, and Crimson Flame Hall. These three factions essentially controlled the personnel and resources within Chaotic Valley. Cultivators seeking refuge in Chaotic Valley must align themselves with one of these Three Forces to establish themselves there; otherwise, they would soon meet a grim fate in the wilderness.
Of course, those who came seeking herbs or for temporary repairs of artifacts were exceptions; they could leave after a brief stay—though whether they could actually leave safely was another matter.
However, there were two types of individuals who were not subject to control by these Three Forces. They enjoyed absolute freedom and safety; no one would dare lay a finger on them. These two categories were Refiners and Alchemists, with Alchemists holding a higher status than Refiners.
Xunuo was puzzled and quickly asked for clarification. In his view, even if Alchemists and Refiners held esteemed positions, they should still be under the influence of various forces since strength determined everything in the cultivation world—especially in Chaotic Valley.
Dai Tianqi replied solemnly, "Xue Daoyou may not know that there are Foundation Stage Cultivators present in Chaotic Valley."
Xunuo responded, "I have heard of them."
Dai Tianqi nodded, "This is it. Not only are there Foundation Stage Cultivators in Chaotic Valley, but there are also Three Foundation Establishment Practitioners. The Three Forces of Chaotic Valley exist with the tacit approval of these three Foundation Stage Cultivators. Similarly, the status of Alchemists and Refiners within Chaotic Valley is established by these three Foundation Stage Cultivators."
Xunuo nodded thoughtfully.
Then, surprisingly, Dai Tianqi encouraged Xunuo to stay. He mentioned that life in Chaotic Valley offered a better survival space than outside.
However, Xunuo did not want to survive in such an environment. Although it might be more suitable for an Alchemist, Xunuo had not set his sights on reaching the Foundation Establishment Stage or becoming an Alchemist.
Thus, Xunuo shook his head and asked Dai Tianqi about the purpose of those spherical magical tools he possessed.
Dai Tianqi began to explain. These spherical magical tools were called Condensation Pearls. They were unique to this area and served as auxiliary magical tools to resist the scorching climate. A single Condensation Pearl could generate a cold aura that covered several feet, enough to protect three to five people venturing deep into the Copper Sand Sea from the heat. If infused with a bit of magical power, one could even safely pass through a Crimson Fire Ant Swarm.
However, the raw materials for these magical tools were sourced from the three Giant Peaks at the center of Chaotic Valley. These three Giant Peaks were known as the Three Sacred Mountains and served as places of meditation for the three Foundation Stage Cultivators. No outsiders were allowed to trespass. Such materials were only occasionally brought out by the three Foundation Stage Cultivators as rewards for contributing Alchemists or Refiners. Therefore, Condensation Pearls were considered relatively precious magical tools in Chaotic Valley.
Xunuo then thought about the five Evil Cultivators who had ambushed his team; they likely relied on Condensation Pearls to venture deep into the Desert Sea. If that Condensation Pearl fell into the hands of the Black Wind Old Monster, returning would be even more perilous for his team. The threat was not just external.
As they continued their conversation, two days passed. The young driver returned to the Desert Sea to pick up Dai Tianqi and Xunuo. The young driver remained exceedingly polite towards Dai Tianqi but cast a cold glance at Xunuo, unlike his earlier indifference.
Once they entered Mountain Valley, the young driver pulled down the cover of the Beast Cart. Suddenly, their Divine Sense was cut off. Xunuo was taken aback, but Dai Tianqi merely pondered for a moment before closing his eyes in silence. After delivering Dai Tianqi to his residence, the Beast Cart headed straight for an inn.
Upon arriving at the inn, Xunuo discovered something shocking—Qi Guoren and the other accompanying Cultivators had vanished without a trace.
Xunuo was alarmed and broke into a sweat. He hurriedly stopped the young driver and inquired about the whereabouts of his fellow Cultivators. The young driver simply replied coldly, "They all left," and attempted to exit. Xunuo quickly handed him a spirit stone, prompting him to recount what had transpired.
It turned out that after Xunuo went out to repair his magical tools, the Black Wind Old Monster did not do the same. Instead, he contacted the leader of the Black Dragon Society. Upon entering Chaotic Valley, he found it perfectly suited to his tastes—rampant killing and chaos made it feel like paradise for him. The Black Wind Old Monster's formidable magical prowess was highly valued by the Black Dragon Society, leading to an immediate agreement between them. The Black Wind Old Monster was appointed as a deputy leader of the Black Dragon Society.
With this new status as deputy leader of the Black Dragon Society, the Black Wind Old Monster became even more arrogant and directly approached the inn, demanding Qi Guoren hand over Dongfang Yunqing and two others.
Dongfang Yunqing and Xunuo were among the few cultivators in the team who possessed magical artifacts. On their return journey, Qi Guoren would have to rely heavily on the strength of these two. Therefore, Qi Guoren would never resort to such self-destructive actions as tearing down the city walls. Seeing his plans thwarted, the Black Wind Old Monster snorted coldly and turned to leave.
As the Black Wind Old Monster exited the inn, he was met with a wave of cultivators from Mountain Valley attempting to block his path. In just one day, nearly twenty cultivators had been killed.
The Black Wind Old Monster's formidable magical prowess made even the leader of the Black Dragon Society wary. Not to mention the other two factions. However, the leader of the Black Dragon Society had explicitly warned the Black Wind Old Monster not to cross the bottom line of the Three Forces. It was absolutely forbidden to kill enemies in an inn.
The Black Wind Old Monster was no fool. He was not arrogant enough to disregard a Foundation Establishment Stage expert. Although ruthless in his killings, he had not reached an uncontrollable level. The other two factions were dissatisfied but could only turn a blind eye due to their fear of the Black Wind Old Monster's strength.
When Qi Guoren learned that the Black Wind Old Monster had begun to plunder fellow cultivators, he quickly gathered all cultivators in the inn, explained the situation, and set off that very night to escape.
The Black Wind Old Monster did not expect Qi Guoren to be so decisive, leaving without waiting for several cultivators who had not yet returned. It was only when he sought trouble outside the inn the next day that he learned this news.
The leader of the Black Dragon Society felt secretly pleased. With these outside Loose Cultivators leaving Chaotic Valley, they could kill at will without any constraints. He proposed leading a team to pursue them.
Although frustrated, the Black Wind Old Monster understood that Qi Guoren was meticulous and would never return along the original route. This escape left no trace of direction, making it as futile as searching for a needle in a haystack.
However, the Black Wind Old Monster knew that Xunuo had not escaped. He bitterly remarked, "Chasing them is pointless; it’s better to lie in wait here for another little brat to walk into our trap."
The leader of the Black Dragon Society, named Qin Xiaofeng, knew Xunuo's whereabouts. But he feared that if the Black Wind Old Monster found out, he might recklessly rush to Copper Sand Sea to ambush Xunuo, thus breaking Chaotic Valley's fundamental rules and offending a Foundation Stage Cultivator. The consequences of such actions were something that the Black Dragon Society could not bear.
