However, Bear Wind and Zhao Tingshui were two individuals with vastly different personalities. Bear Wind was eccentric and often acted on impulse. Although he was generous and had a wide circle of friends, he also had a tendency to indiscriminately kill, earning him a reputation that was both praised and condemned. Nevertheless, he was unique in his swordsmanship and possessed profound skills.
Years ago, Wei Wuyou had sparred with him. Afterward, he remarked to Tuoba Buer and others, "I am far inferior to him."
This demonstrated Bear Wind's ferocity.
Particularly noteworthy was that he had two younger brothers who were also exceptionally talented, nearly matching the swordsmanship of One Sword, Seven Flowers.
On the other hand, Zhao Tingshui from White Sand Gate was a true gentleman. He often took actions to support the weak against the strong and had an excellent reputation in the martial world. However, White Sand Gate could not be considered a major sect. While it was not a second-rate faction, it was certainly the youngest among the first-rate sects. Moreover, Zhao Tingshui had only recently grasped One Sword, Seven Flowers for over a year, leaving him somewhat behind Bear Wind in terms of swordsmanship.
The Nanyue Sect engaged in an analysis and debate regarding these two candidates.
Initially, most people supported Bear Wind for the position of leader. Firstly, Bear Wind was stronger in martial arts than Zhao Tingshui. Secondly, Vulture Peak had many interactions with Nanyue Sect and shared some friendships.
However, upon closer examination, they felt it was unstable. Bear Wind's advantages and flaws were equally apparent. Those who benefited from him would undoubtedly support him wholeheartedly. Conversely, those who had grievances against him would do everything possible to prevent him from becoming the leader. This would lead to significant divisions in the election process and create numerous variables that could provide Wuhua Sect with an opportunity.
At this point, Nanyue Sect could not afford to lose. They absolutely could not allow chaos in this election for the leader that deviated from their intentions. After careful consideration, they concluded that it would be safer to endorse Zhao Tingshui. At least this would prevent a direct confrontation between two opposing factions.
Nanyue Sect established their strategy, and Tuoba Buer dispatched the Hall Masters and elders to various familiar sects with whom they had personal connections to discreetly communicate their intentions. They made it clear that they should jointly support Zhao Tingshui. The elders and Hall Masters received their orders and promptly packed their belongings before setting off.
In the end, only Elder Sun remained behind. He looked anxiously at Tuoba Buer.
Tuoba Buer pondered for a moment before saying to him, "It’s still not secure enough; we need you, Sun Junior Brother, to send a message to one more person."
The Sun Clan Master clasped his hands and said, "Senior Brother, there's no need for formality. Just give your orders. Who is the message for?"
Tuoba Buer replied word by word, "Demon Blade Tian Guangfeng."
The Sun Master gasped, staring at Tuoba Buer in shock, beads of sweat trickling down his face.
Tian Guangfeng had quite a history with the Nanyue Sect. He was originally a disciple of the Nanyue Sect and a fellow apprentice of Tuoba Buer. Not only was he the eldest senior brother of that generation, but he also possessed the greatest talent.
The Nanyue Sect valued swordsmanship but did not reject other martial arts. However, like the Wuhua Sect, their most outstanding disciples were still sent to cultivate sword techniques.
Tian Guangfeng was somewhat of an anomaly. Although the Nanyue Sect offered him the best cultivation methods and sword techniques, he preferred saber techniques instead. He mastered the saber to an extraordinary level while looking down on swordsmanship.
This caused great dissatisfaction among the higher-ups of the Nanyue Sect. They had hoped this exceptional disciple would elevate the Nanyue Sword Sect, but instead, he excelled in saber techniques beyond what most disciples achieved with their swords.
After all, the Nanyue Sect had built its reputation on swordsmanship. Moreover, during the Three Factions Sword Debate, it was the reputation of the sword sects that mattered. No matter how profound his saber techniques were, they would not enhance the fame of the sword sects. Thus, the Nanyue Sect forced him to abandon his saber for swordsmanship.
Unexpectedly, this individual not only had astonishing talent but also a stubborn disposition. In the end, he fell out with the Nanyue Sect and left its gates.
After leaving, Tian Guangfeng traveled throughout the Great Liang Kingdom and ultimately developed a unique style of saber technique. Once he perfected his saber skills, he returned to exact revenge on the Nanyue Sect for past grievances.
His saber techniques were specifically designed to counter swordsmanship. Coupled with his immense inner strength, he wielded a massive saber that was ten feet long, over a foot wide, and an inch thick. Ordinary sword techniques could hardly approach him. Tian Guangfeng wreaked havoc on the Nanyue Sect, leaving them in disarray. It was only after pleas from Tuoba Buer and other junior disciples who had some personal ties with him that Tian Guangfeng finally left in pride.
However, this incident left the Nanyue Sect trembling in fear and earned Tian Guangfeng a reputation as a demon blade.
Afterward, Tian Guangfeng seized control of a sect and began to gather disciples to specialize in saber techniques.
The person had suffered greatly at the hands of the Nanyue Sect in his youth, harboring a deep-seated hatred for sword sects. He would often attack nearby sword sects, earning a notorious reputation.
Today, when Sun Master heard that Tuoba Buer wanted him to deliver a message to Demon Blade Tian Guangfeng, he felt a wave of trepidation wash over him. After a moment, he said, "If that guy doesn't kill me on sight, it will be our good fortune. But sending myself right to his doorstep, I'm afraid I might return without my head."
Tuoba Buer waved his hand dismissively. "Don't worry, Sun Junior Brother. I wouldn't send you if I didn't have some confidence. Do you think I would lead you to your doom?"
Though Sun Master was still anxious, he had no choice but to comply when he saw his master’s assurance. "In that case, I will risk my life to deliver this message."
Tuoba Buer nodded and told Sun Master to wait a moment while he went into the back hall. After a short while, Tuoba Buer emerged holding a letter. He handed it to Sun Master and instructed, "You will set off in twenty days and deliver this letter to Tian Guangfeng. Just tell him that upon receiving this letter, he should come immediately; everything else is not your concern."
Sun Master glanced at the letter and noticed it was sealed with wax, with only one line written on the envelope: Urgent Delivery to Tian Guangfeng.
He looked at the letter and then at Tuoba Buer. With a sigh, Tuoba Buer said, "I will head to Wuhua Mountain today to coordinate with the sects that have arrived ahead of us. You just need to make sure you deliver the letter on time."
Holding the letter, Sun Master understood that Tuoba Buer had some ulterior motives in mind. However, since the Elder Brother of the Sect Master did not elaborate further, he had no choice but to accept his fate and bowed out.
Meanwhile, in the southern part of the Great Liang Kingdom, the intrigue and undercurrents within the Martial Arts Sect were numerous.
At Wuhua Mountain, there was a cacophony of voices as chaos reigned. The originally designated guest reception area could no longer accommodate so many martial artists. They had no choice but to allocate a section of the Outer Sect Disciple's quarters for additional guests. Everything was rearranged anew for the incoming Martial Arts Sect members. Only the courtyard of Seven Star Sword Hall remained tranquil as ever.
On this day, Xunuo was still in the courtyard practicing sword techniques with his senior brothers when suddenly a disciple rushed over to inform him that Wu Liangfang from Iron Fist Sect wished to see him.
Upon hearing this, Xunuo realized that Wu Liangfang had come to express his gratitude. During Xunuo's last descent from the mountain, he had unexpectedly encountered Wu Liangfang's granddaughter in distress alongside Feng Wubian and had offered assistance. However, it felt somewhat inappropriate for Wu Liangfang himself to visit their courtyard; after all, he was the leader of a sect with status comparable to Ximen Tower. Even Xunuo and Zhang Shoufeng were taken aback by this development.
Regardless of their thoughts, they stepped out together to welcome Wu Liangfang inside.
Wu Liangfang saw that the disciples of the Seven Star Sword Hall were all present and smiled, "You Wuhua Sect are indeed cautious, always keeping the Seven Star Sword Formation together."
Zhang Shoufeng quickly cupped his hands and replied, "The Seven Star Sword Formation is the foundation of the Wuhua Sect, so it must be practiced together to become proficient. However, we juniors have been so engrossed in sword training that we failed to pay our respects to the esteemed seniors. I hope Elder Wu will not take offense."
Wu Liangfang waved his hand dismissively, "It's nothing. We martial artists do not adhere to so many formalities."
As he spoke, he entered the room with a few others, taking a seat at the head. Zhang Shoufeng, Xunuo, and the others stood on either side to accompany him.
After a brief chat, Wu Liangfang turned to Xunuo and said, "I have something I wish to say to Lu Shao Xia. I wonder if it would be convenient?"
Zhang Shoufeng and the others exchanged glances and cupped their hands in acknowledgment before stepping out.
Once Zhang Shoufeng and the others had left, Wu Liangfang stood up to close the door before bowing deeply to Xunuo. "I came here specifically to thank Lu Shao Xia for saving my disciple and granddaughter's lives."
Xunuo was taken aback and hurriedly supported Wu Liangfang. "Senior, there is no need for such formalities. I have also received kindness from Elder Wu and do not know how to repay it. Saving your granddaughter was merely a stroke of luck. If Elder Wu insists on such gratitude, it would be too much for me."
Wu Liangfang replied sternly, "This life-saving grace is one that Lu Shao Xia must accept with this courtesy."
Seeing Wu Liangfang's earnestness made Xunuo feel uncomfortable. Given Wu Liangfang's current status and position, there was no need for such grand gestures towards him. Xunuo quickly helped Wu Liangfang take a seat.
