Xunuo, out of caution, first thought whether someone was up to mischief. At this thought, a cold sweat broke out on Xunuo's brow. Spreading out his Divine Sense, he covered the entire Herb Valley. A flash of red light surrounded him, forming a golden protective shield. At the same time, he tapped his storage bag, and two Heavenly Shadow Spikes began to hover around him. After a moment, Xunuo hesitantly retracted the Heavenly Shadow Spikes and the Protective Shield.
When he had probed with his Divine Sense just now, there was not a trace of Divine Sense or magical fluctuations in the entire Herb Valley.
Xunuo stood before the incense burner, deep in thought for a long while. With a sudden inspiration, he pushed open the door and stepped outside. The sun shone brightly, and the air was filled with the sounds of birds and fragrant flowers. Glancing at the sun and the shadows of the trees, he realized that not much time had passed since he entered the Boundary Stone. There was no one around working the fields.
Xunuo could hardly believe that an ordinary person could change a standing incense in such a short time and then vanish without a trace. What puzzled him even more was why someone would replace this standing incense.
Returning inside, Xunuo stood before the incense burner once again and pondered another question. The fragrance inside was barely perceptible. Even if someone had taken the standing incense, it was impossible for them to carry away its scent. Moreover, all doors and windows were secured from the inside. How had this person entered and exited? Everything inside was clear to see. Under Xunuo's Divine Sense, even ants and mosquitoes were easily discernible; there was no way anyone could hide.
After contemplating for a while, Xunuo sat cross-legged on a Meditation Cushion, seemingly entering a meditative state. He sat like this for an entire day. Suddenly, he got up and walked to the incense burner. He gently stirred the ash for a moment before dumping it onto the table. Using a net, he filtered out all the unburned incense sticks from the ash and then returned the ash to the burner.
Only then did Xunuo take out two standing incenses to light them. He inserted one into the burner while holding the other as he stepped into the Starlight Arena.
Xunuo raised his hand to grab two storage bags and stepped into the Spirit Domain. In an instant, he rushed to Spring Edge and summoned his Heavenly Shadow Spike to continue chopping branches from a giant tree. Before long, both storage bags were filled.
Xunuo put away his Heavenly Shadow Spike and storage bags, standing at Spring Edge while thoughtfully observing the rich Spring Water bubbling up.
In an instant, Xunuo's figure blurred before he appeared in the Starlight Arena once more. This time, he didn’t even have time to set down his storage bags before stepping out of Boundary Space. Comparing both standing incenses, he noticed that the one in his hand had burned down nearly halfway while the one in the burner had barely reached the roof; it still looked freshly lit.
Xunuo showed no signs of distress as he approached the incense burner to pull out the standing incense and stirred it inside with his finger. A look of realization crossed his face as he finally sighed in relief, thinking to himself: It was just a false alarm; it seems I worried for nothing.
This actually provides a reasonable explanation for why the herbs planted in the Spirit Domain can mature in just a few dozen days, despite taking decades in the outside world. However, Xunuo cannot stay in the Spirit Domain for too long. If he wants to explore further, he will find his abilities insufficient. Nevertheless, knowing the general reason behind this phenomenon alleviates some of Xunuo's concerns.
Since it has been confirmed that there is no external interference, Xunuo can at least proceed according to plan and continue to uncover the secrets of the Boundary Stone. He can now ascertain that the time within the Spirit Domain is not synchronized with that of the real world. As for how significant the difference is, that will have to wait until he has the capability to investigate further.
After some thought, Xunuo went out to visit Jing Lide at Herb Valley's management office. Jing Lide was holding a cup of tea and chatting with several alchemists. Upon seeing Xunuo, he quickly set down his teacup and stood up to greet him. Xunuo said to Jing Lide, "Have someone from the procurement team gather any herbs we don’t have in Herb Valley, whether seeds or seedlings. I have use for them."
Jing Lide promptly replied, "Rest assured, Shishu. I will take care of this today. There are many people from Wuhua Sect handling procurement outside; we can let them all get involved."
Xunuo nodded and returned without any further matters to attend to. While Jing Lide took care of the herb procurement, we shall not dwell on that for now.
Back at Thatched Cottage, Xunuo began preparing for the next day's experiment. Having learned about the time difference between Boundary Space and reality, his next step was to experiment with this temporal discrepancy and determine which space it exists in. After all, within the Boundary Stone, there are two spaces: the expansive Starlight Arena and the boundless Spirit Domain.
The following day, Xunuo lit three incense sticks for standing meditation. He placed one inside Thatched Cottage, another in Starlight Arena, and took the last one into Spirit Domain. With a swift motion, he entered Starlight Arena and immediately proceeded into Spirit Domain without pause.
Xunuo raced towards the spirit spring, clearing out branches from his storage bag along the way. Upon reaching his destination, he summoned Heavenly Shadow Spike and began chopping down trees. In no time, both storage bags were filled up; as soon as he paused briefly, he was expelled from Spirit Domain.
Looking back at Starlight Arena, Xunuo noticed that the standing incense stick appeared as if it had just been lit. Without hesitation, he pulled it up and turned to exit Starlight Arena. Once back at Thatched Cottage, he arranged the three incense sticks side by side and observed them closely for a moment. A look of understanding crossed his face.
It seemed that only time within Spirit Domain was independent. Moreover, time there flowed countless times faster than in other spaces. This could explain why a few herbs he planted had matured into decades' worth of growth in just a matter of days. Thus, this Spirit Domain turned out to be an excellent place for hastening the growth of spiritual herbs and medicines. However, since each entry is too brief and intervals are somewhat long, Xunuo did not harbor too many expectations.
After conducting his experiments, Xunuo finally obtained a more accurate result: Starlight Arena and his current reality exist on the same temporal trajectory. In contrast, Spirit Domain operates within a completely independent time system. Based on his observations of herb maturation years, Xunuo could only estimate roughly that one day in reality corresponds to about one year in Spirit Domain. To discern more specific details would require capabilities beyond his current reach.
After all, Xunuo still lacked proficiency in determining herb ages accurately. He could distinguish between ten-year and twenty-year differences with some confidence but struggled with differentiating between one or two years precisely. Nonetheless, knowing the approximate temporal difference was sufficient for him.
During this time, Xunuo had roughly calculated the time difference between the Boundary Stone and the real world. He finally cleared the branches of the giant tree. The next step was to split this giant tree into several pieces and move them away from their original location. This task was quite monumental. Xunuo had to unleash the full power of the Heavenly Shadow Spike to manage it.
Xunuo had some plans in mind. He asked Jing Lide to send over a Boxwood Bathtub, which he placed in the Boundary Stone's Starlight Arena. In the meantime, he went to Tian Feiyu's place to participate in a practice session of the Seven Star Sword Formation.
With Xunuo's swordsmanship skills, joining the Seven Star Sword Formation was naturally effortless. However, Xunuo did not want to immerse himself in the formation. After all, as a Cultivator, he would eventually need to detach from the mundane world. He didn't want Wuhua Sect to rely on him; doing so would only harm them in the long run. Nevertheless, Xunuo didn't have a good excuse for now and could only wait for an opportunity to extricate himself from the Seven Star Sword Formation.
One day, after resting sufficiently, Xunuo entered the Spirit Domain's Spring Edge. He stood on the bare trunk of the giant tree, which now stood a hundred feet tall but had only a few dozen feet of trunk remaining. The top had been flattened into a platform several feet wide.
Xunuo summoned two Heavenly Shadow Spikes and channeled his magic into them. True Essence Magic surged wildly into the Heavenly Shadow Spikes. In an instant, they buzzed loudly, and Azure Radiance flashed, transforming into two nearly two-foot-long blades of light. The two blades connected, forming a light blade over five feet long that slashed downward. Instantly, a half-foot-wide gash was cleaved from top to bottom in the massive tree. After completing one roll at the bottom, it swiftly broke through from an adjacent spot. With one back-and-forth motion of the light blade across the giant tree, it created a gash over a foot long. Xunuo's face turned pale as he continued to channel power into the Heavenly Shadow Spikes until he split the giant tree in half.
Satisfied, Xunuo nodded and leaped down from the tree. He summoned an empty storage bag and swept over the spring before returning with it flying back. Xunuo glanced into the storage bag without saying a word and secured it at his waist. Moments later, with a wave of energy, Xunuo appeared in the Starlight Arena.
