On that morning, Qi Guoren collected the Azure Cloud Illusion Formation and Formation Flag. He was the first to exit the Cave, leading a few others as they stealthily made their way to the agreed-upon location.
According to Liu Kaishan's description, they were not far from their destination. At this pace, they would arrive in two days. Given their recent encounter with two Black Fox Demons, Qi Guoren was even more cautious this time. He activated his Divine Sense fully to lead the way and assigned one person on each side to expand the monitoring range of their Divine Sense as much as possible.
After nearly a day of travel, as dusk approached, they were about to find a safe place to rest for the night when suddenly, Wang Wenhao, who was scouting on the left side of the group, signaled an alert. The seven of them quickly gathered, and Wang Wenhao reported what he had discovered.
It turned out that behind a nearby mountain, there were faint fluctuations of magical energy. Among this group, Wang Wenhao's magical power and Divine Sense were second only to Qi Guoren's. According to Wang Wenhao's observations, the fluctuations were quite complex and likely resulted from a battle between two parties.
Qi Guoren pondered briefly before asking, "Based on what you found, are both sides in this battle human or demon?"
Wang Wenhao replied, "The magical energy is mixed; both humans and demons are present."
Qi Guoren, being an experienced demon hunter familiar with the depths of the mountains, quickly deduced, "If that's the case, it must be a fierce fight between humans and demons. The fact that both sides can project their magical energy indicates they are evenly matched. We should hurry over to assist; perhaps they are the ones we are looking for."
With that, he dashed in the direction indicated by Wang Wenhao. Xunuo and the others quickly followed suit.
Sure enough, after running for a while, Xunuo detected the chaotic battlefield behind the mountain. This battleground was situated on a hillside where seven or eight bodies—both human and beast—lay sprawled on the ground. Four individuals stood in a peculiar formation, desperately battling against seven demon beasts.
Currently, these seven demon beasts clearly held the advantage. Five Wolf Demons unleashed fireballs while two Pig Demons released beams of Yellow Light, all targeting the four Cultivators with relentless ferocity. Fortunately, among these seven demon beasts, only two Wolf Demons were Third-Grade Monsters; the others were Second-Level Monsters. Although their attacks left the four Cultivators in dire straits, they were not in immediate danger of death.
It was unclear how these four managed to combine their magical powers effectively. Regardless of whether it was fireballs from the Wolf Demons or Yellow Light from the Pig Demons, they managed to fend off the attacks together. However, it was evident that their magical energy was being heavily depleted; they seemed to be running out of strength.
Qi Guoren was the first to reach the fray. From a distance, he deployed his artifact and made a decisive choice by locking onto a Second-Level Rift Boar. His Hook-shaped Artifact flashed through the air and struck cleanly across the boar's neck. The Pig Demon barely had time to grunt before its head flew off and its body collapsed onto the ground. Blood gushed from where its neck had been.
Qi Guoren's sudden appearance and thunderous strike stunned several demon beasts momentarily before they redirected their attacks toward him.
Qi Guoren displayed an air of authority and spoke loudly to the four individuals, "Fellow cultivators, let’s deal with these beasts before we talk."
Soon after, Wang Wenhao, Changsun Wujie, and others arrived one after another. The four cultivators felt a surge of energy upon seeing their reinforcements. They dispersed their defensive formation and engaged in combat with several beasts.
Xunuo, feeling his own power was insufficient to face a beast alone, teamed up with Liu Kaishan to confront a second-level Wolf Demon.
At that moment, Xunuo summoned a Protective Shield, which made him feel much safer in battle. The fireballs launched by the Wolf Demon struck against his Protective Shield, causing it to wobble but not shatter. However, the spells cast by Xunuo and Liu Kaishan hit the Wolf Demon hard, stripping it of fur and skin, giving them a significant advantage.
After a brief struggle, under the combined efforts of everyone, several second-level monsters were swiftly eliminated. The group then split into two teams to surround two third-level Wolf Demons. These two Wolf Demons were clearly less cunning than the Black Fox Demon. Despite being besieged from all sides, they did not retreat and fought fiercely against their attackers.
Xunuo observed that the fireballs from the third-level Wolf Demon would easily breach his Protective Shield. Thus, he wisely chose to stay back and feign an attack. A glance at Liu Kaishan revealed that he was also hiding behind the others, too lazy even to pretend to attack.
Regardless, it didn’t take long for the group to slay both Wolf Demons on the spot. Liu Kaishan hurried forward to greet the four individuals who were his companions from their entry into the Ten Thousand Great Mountains. He then introduced them to Qi Guoren and the others.
Qi Guoren quickly tidied up the battlefield and led everyone away rapidly. They reached a secluded spot at the foot of a hill where Qi Guoren swiftly opened up a Cave. He set up an Azure Cloud Illusion Formation, allowing over ten people to enter the Cave for shelter. By this time, darkness had fallen; the forest was thick with demonic energy, more eerie and terrifying than in previous days.
Once everyone settled down in their spots, Qi Guoren clasped his hands together and addressed the four individuals, "Fellow cultivators, your earlier display attracted quite a crowd of beasts. I fear we may have drawn nearby monsters here. We should discuss our plans for leaving soon; do any of you have good ideas?"
Among the four was a middle-aged cultivator named Liu Qishan, wearing a black robe and a square cap. He sighed and said, "It’s just our bad luck; since entering this place, misfortune has followed us relentlessly. We managed to gather seven or eight people at our meeting point but were then tracked down by that group of Golden Devouring Mice. To avoid future troubles and while waiting for Liu Kaishan and another companion there, I unleashed a Three Talents Killing Formation to eliminate those Golden Devouring Mice. Who would have thought it would attract over ten third-grade monsters? With no choice left, we fought while fleeing; we nearly lost everything. Thankfully you all came to our aid or else..."
At this point, Liu Qishan's expression darkened as he sighed deeply and could say no more.
Qi Guoren shook his head repeatedly, murmuring, "This is bad news indeed. The Three Talents Formation is filled with murderous intent; while powerful, it cannot hide its overwhelming killing aura. I wondered why so many beasts suddenly appeared; it seems they’ve all gathered here. With no other routes available, we can only push forward through the nearest passage and see what fate awaits us."
The group exchanged glances with one another. Liu Qishan said, "We have no choice; we cannot linger here any longer."
"Among us, you and I have the highest Divine Sense," Qi Guoren said, nodding to Liu Qishan. "Could you please take the rear guard?"
Liu Qishan nodded in agreement. Qi Guoren continued, "I will scout ahead. The rest of you with a Cultivation Method above the tenth level should follow closely behind me. If we encounter any beasts that we cannot avoid, we will strike together with overwhelming force. We must not delay for even a moment, nor leave a single survivor."
The group of cultivators responded in unison, "Understood."
Xunuo watched as Qi Guoren swiftly organized everything, displaying the composure of a general facing a mountain collapse without changing color. He felt a deep admiration in his heart.
Once Qi Guoren saw that there were no objections from the others, he recalled two Formation Flags and led the way out of the Cave at a brisk pace. The others followed him out in single file.
As expected by Qi Guoren, this area was rife with lurking beasts. Fortunately, his Divine Sense was powerful, and he was quick-witted; after a night of frantic running, they encountered no danger.
At dawn, Qi Guoren finally stopped, his expression grim. He gathered everyone together and said, "Ahead on both sides, there are two beasts approaching, but they are quite far apart. We will take down the one that is farther away first and then deal with the one behind it. We must act swiftly and ensure it is killed in one blow; we cannot allow it to send out any signals."
The group nodded eagerly in agreement and spread out in a fan shape to conceal their presence as much as possible.
After a short while, a gust of foul wind blew toward them, carrying an unsettling sensation. Soon after, they spotted a toad-like beast about half a meter long, covered in fist-sized lumps that oozed toxic liquid. It was scrambling toward them with all four limbs flailing about. Although it appeared to be crawling, its speed was astonishing despite its awkward movements.
As the toad demon drew closer, Xunuo noticed Chang Iron Tower nearby trembling uncontrollably, seemingly terrified beyond measure.
