Do not say that this time Xunuo was wrong.
The demon eye of the Colorful Illusion Python is an excellent material for crafting the Illusion Array and psychedelic artifacts. It is worth several times more than other Demon Beast Materials of the same level. At least, it is more precious than the Third-Grade Earthfire Ape claws that Dongfang Yunqing possesses. If it were a second-grade Colorful Illusion Python, it could make Xunuo a fortune. However, if it truly were a second-grade Colorful Illusion Python, Xunuo would likely already be its meal.
Unable to use the Fire Manipulation Technique, and with the tough scales of the demon python, even the Azure Edge couldn't inflict any damage. But with the Heavenly Shadow Spike as a trump card, Xunuo felt fearless.
Xunuo first silently recited the incantation for the Object Manipulation Technique. Although this technique moves and controls ordinary objects slowly, being entangled with the Python Demon meant that a slower speed was no longer a fatal flaw. As long as the Heavenly Shadow Spike was sharp enough, controlling it to pierce through the body of the Python Demon and then swiftly severing its head should not be too difficult.
After finishing the incantation, Xunuo activated a Heavenly Shadow Spike using the Object Manipulation Technique. He thought to himself: Go.
In an instant, Xunuo felt all his magical energy drain away. The next moment, his weakened hand relaxed. Not a trace of his True Qi remained. He thought to himself: My life is over.
Then he saw the Python Demon open its mouth wide and lunge at him. Closing his eyes, he heard a splat beside him. When he opened his eyes again, he saw that the python's head had been cleanly severed, falling right next to him. Blood from the dying Python Demon sprayed all over Xunuo, drenching him completely. Although the immediate danger had passed and circumstances had reversed, Xunuo felt no joy whatsoever.
Before him, the Heavenly Shadow Spike he had summoned was now skillfully dancing around him. The spike glimmered with a bluish-black hue, shining brilliantly. Meanwhile, the last remnants of his magical energy were being poured into it without reservation.
Just as Xunuo was about to retract the spell and cut off its magical flow, the color of the Heavenly Shadow Spike suddenly darkened and fell to the ground.
Rising to look, Xunuo saw that the Python Demon had been chopped into seven or eight pieces, dead beyond recovery. Ignoring the remains of the demon, he went over to pick up the Heavenly Shadow Spike.
At this moment, how could Xunuo not realize that this was a treasure? It might even be the artifact mentioned by Dongfang Yunqing. Unfortunately, this treasure consumed too much magical energy. After just a brief activation, it had drained nearly all of his power.
Xunuo quickly checked himself, and his expression grew increasingly grim. It seemed he had been overly optimistic; upon further inspection, he discovered that there was not a trace of True Qi left in his Dantian.
Fortunately, his Divine Sense remained intact, but facing danger here would still require relying on his magical power. Divine Sense could only serve as a means of exploration and assistance. A long-forgotten fatigue and pain began to creep in.
Xunuo dared not linger. He dug out the Python Demon's eyes and placed them in a wooden box, then retrieved the Azure Wind Sword before stumbling off in one direction.
Half a day later, while Xunuo was in the forest foraging for wild fruits to satisfy his hunger, he suddenly sensed two massive waves of Divine Sense sweep past him. They quickly locked onto his presence.
Xunuo's heart sank; he had no time to eat now. He dropped the wild fruits and fled. Soon after, he detected two Fire Wolves rapidly approaching him. The overwhelming surge of magical power made his heart race.
This time, Xunuo had learned his lesson and did not concentrate all his Divine Sense behind him. Instead, he spread it outwards in search of an escape route. In the next moment, he noticed a vast expanse of water to his right front. This body of water was peculiar; his Divine Sense could only penetrate a few feet beneath the surface and could not delve deeper. Xunuo thought that heaven would not completely cut off his path, so he dashed toward the water.
As he approached the water's edge, he saw that the trees and underbrush were becoming sparse. Within several dozen feet of the water's edge lay a barren expanse of rocks. Xunuo realized that something was amiss, but the two Fire Attribute Wolf Demons were already closing in on him. If he hesitated here, he feared their spells would come crashing down on him.
There was no hope of escaping by diving into the water. Even if death were imminent, Xunuo would unhesitatingly choose to live for just one more moment. Survival was the only truth he had learned and adhered to over the years. In an instant, Xunuo reached the water's edge and leaped in without any hesitation.
Immediately, two Wolf Demons with bodies over ten feet long and bright red manes chased him to the water's edge. They opened their mouths and unleashed fireballs toward the surface, causing the lake to churn violently. Although they were furious that a mere human boy had escaped them, neither of them dared to plunge into the water after him. After venting their anger with a howl, they turned and left together.
The water was pitch black, making it impossible to see anything. Xunuo had no choice but to close his eyes and rely solely on his Divine Sense as he dove deeper into the lake. As he descended three or five feet below the surface, he could no longer sense what was happening above. Xunuo considered this a good thing; if he couldn't detect them, they would also struggle to find him.
After diving for a while, Xunuo noticed that his Mind Power weakened the deeper he went. At one point, his Divine Sense finally failed to reach any further; however, he still had not reached the bottom of the lake. Meanwhile, an intense itching and pain began to spread across his body.
Caught in a dilemma, Xunuo realized that this lake must hold some mystery; staying submerged for too long could be dangerous. Yet emerging from the water would mean instant death. He had no choice but to endure the discomfort on his body as he continued downward until finally reaching the Lake Bottom. To his surprise, this Lake Bottom was unlike what he had imagined; it was hard like rock rather than being filled with mire as typical lake bottoms would be.
Xunuo walked along the Lake Bottom towards the opposite shore, knowing that if he could reach it, there would be hope for survival.
After a while, Xunuo felt something ahead in the darkness. He reached out to touch it, but found nothing. As he took another step forward, a wave of dizziness washed over him.
In the next moment, his Divine Sense broke free from its confinement and surged forth like a tide. Xunuo found himself in a dry passageway, but his body was already a bloody mess. The lake water seemed to have corrosive properties, having eaten away at his skin until there was not a single intact inch left. He stood in the passage like a bloodied figure.
The intense pain that he had not felt in the water now hit him like a hammer. Xunuo trembled all over from the agony, disregarding his surroundings and the unknown dangers. He quickly took out two bottles of Reattachment Ointment and began applying it from head to toe. His clothes had also been corroded to threads, which he tore off and tossed aside. After using up one bottle of Reattachment Ointment, he managed to cover himself completely. Gradually, the excruciating pain subsided, replaced by a tingling sensation as his flesh began to regenerate.
Xunuo silently thanked his good fortune for having such miraculous healing ointment; otherwise, he would have had to endure the pain in despair. Moments later, his wounds healed completely, and his skin regained its former smoothness. However, he was left completely bald; when he touched his hairless head, he felt an odd sensation.
Only then did Xunuo extend his Divine Sense deeper into the passageway. The passage was only several dozen feet long and about three feet wide and high. It was pitch black inside, sloping downward. At the other end lay a cave that spanned a hundred feet wide. The cave was over ten feet high, and at its center hung a luminous pearl the size of a cooking pot, radiating dazzling white light that illuminated the entire cave as if it were daytime.
Beneath the pearl was a circular pool about ten feet across. In the center of the pool bubbled spring water that splashed outward with vigor. The astonishing spiritual energy emanating from this spring water was so palpable that even from the other end of the passageway, Xunuo could feel it clearly.
The entire cave was evidently man-made. It had eight sides with neatly divided walls. On the wall opposite the passageway lay a White Jade Tooth Bed over three feet long. Leaning against it was a corpse whose clothing had disintegrated into tatters; it was clear that it had been dead for countless years. Aside from this, there were no other items in the cave.
Seeing that it was an unclaimed cave brought Xunuo great relief. He turned back to look at the entrance of the passageway. This entrance resembled a Blue Barrier that kept the pool of black water from entering.
Reflecting on this shimmering barrier, he noticed nothing unusual about it. He had stepped right through without any issue while keeping all that black water outside. Having narrowly escaped death, Xunuo felt hesitant to test this barrier again despite any lingering doubts.
He retrieved his belongings from among the tattered clothes and walked towards the cave at the end of the passageway while still naked. As he approached the cave, he felt an overwhelming sense of energy emanating from within.
