As soon as the Ironback Black Wolf was injured, its ferocity vanished. With a long howl directed at the sky, it turned and fled deep into the mountains. 0

Xunuo would not let this beast escape. He quickly pursued it. Originally, Xunuo was much faster than the Ironback Black Wolf. However, in the forest, the beast was far more agile than him. Time and again, it narrowly evaded Xunuo's attacks under the Xunuo. 0

After chasing for an unknown duration, they finally broke free from the forest. The Ironback Black Wolf leaped onto a barren hilltop. Seeing an opportunity, Xunuo hurried forward, closing in to strike decisively. 0

Suddenly, an inexplicable sense of danger surged within him. Almost instinctively, he swung his Iron Sword back in a swift arc. He caught a glimpse of a silver-black shadow flashing behind him. In the next moment, a wolf's claw came crashing down from above. Xunuo was filled with terror. He spun his sword in a protective dance around himself, creating a barrier of light. All he could see was a shadow flickering at his side. The lightning-fast wolf claws darted around him, making it impossible for his Divine Sense to lock onto them. Meanwhile, the Ironback Black Wolf turned around, eyeing Xunuo with predatory intent, ready to pounce at any moment. 0

Xunuo realized he was being ambushed by a mutated silver wolf. He had no strength to counterattack and could barely defend himself. If that Ironback Black Wolf managed to strike him again, it would surely expose a fatal weakness leading to his demise. If he tried to flee, he knew he couldn't outrun this mutated silver wolf. The only option was to eliminate the Ironback Black Wolf first; he could not allow it to be caught between two attackers. 0

With that thought in mind, Xunuo quickly stowed away his Heavenly Shadow Spike. Chanting an incantation, flames erupted from his left hand. As soon as the fire appeared, the silver wolf shadow went into a frenzy, its claws raining down upon Xunuo. 0

Cursing under his breath and realizing he had no time to sneak attack the Ironback Black Wolf, Xunuo chanted another spell. The flames transformed into a Fire Sea that spread outwards in all directions. Instantly, the acrid smell of burning fur filled the air as the silver shadow surrounding Xunuo vanished in an instant. 0

In the next moment, beside the Ironback Black Wolf appeared a slightly smaller Silverback Black Wolf with large patches of singed fur. It seemed that previous attack had dealt significant damage to this creature. Xunuo felt great apprehension towards the Silverback Black Wolf and took several steps back before halting his sword's glow while still maintaining the Fire Sea around him. 0

Xunuo faced off against these two ferocious beasts for a moment before raising his left arm again as another ball of fire surged forth. The flames condensed into a fireball several inches in diameter. In an instant, the fireball shot towards the Ironback Black Wolf and exploded upon impact, engulfing it in flames. The Ironback Black Wolf quickly transformed into a Fire Wolf; after a series of mournful howls and thrashing about, it was reduced to ashes. 0

The Silverback Black Wolf appeared both startled and fearful as it circled around the remnants of the Ironback Black Wolf before suddenly vanishing from sight. Xunuo quickly extended his Divine Sense and discovered that it hadn't gone far but was lurking several hundred feet away. 0

Seeing that this creature had retreated but not given up entirely, Xunuo wasted no time collecting his Spell and sprinting back in haste. After running for some distance, he was forced to stop again; it turned out that the Silverback Black Wolf had followed him closely all along. Naturally, Xunuo dared not lead it back to Zigong Changhe and the others; this beast moved too swiftly for him to have any chance of winning against it. If he encountered any fellow disciples during this chase, one glance would likely result in disaster for them all. 0

Xunuo came to a halt, and the Silverback Black Wolf lay low in the distance. Xunuo understood that this beast intended to follow him, waiting for the right moment to ambush. After considering his options, Xunuo realized that turning back was not feasible, and lingering here was not a solution either. The only way to ensure his survival was to find a way to kill this creature. 0

These beasts relied on their sense of smell to track their prey. Xunuo knew that as long as he remained on the ground, he could not escape the wolf's pursuit. After some thought, he sprinted towards the Silverback Black Wolf. 0

Seeing Xunuo chase after it, the Silverback Black Wolf got up and leisurely ran deeper into the mountains. Xunuo chased for a while but then stopped, astonished. He had exerted all his strength in this pursuit, yet the Silverback Black Wolf moved effortlessly, showing no signs of fatigue. 0

Xunuo did not expect to catch up with this creature; he merely wanted a clear comparison of their strengths to devise a plan for its defeat. At this point, he had gained some understanding of the wolf. Firstly, in terms of speed, he could not compete with it. Relying on a chase to exhaust it was futile; only he would tire out. 0

However, when the wolf ambushed Xunuo, it had not come into contact with his sword light. This indicated that the beast was not invulnerable like the Ironback Black Wolf. This meant that if he could strike it with his sword light, he could injure it or even kill it in one blow. Therefore, he needed to lure it into a location where he could set an ambush—one that was not too large and would minimize the wolf's sense of smell. 0

The first thing that came to Xunuo's mind was water. If he could find a deep pool or a narrow gorge to set up an ambush, he would surely be able to eliminate this beast. With this thought in mind, he stopped pursuing the Silverback Black Wolf and chose another direction to run. 0

Xunuo led the Silverback Black Wolf through the forest for an entire day. Although they passed several ponds and streams, either the water was too shallow for concealment or the area was too open to create an effective ambush. Just as Xunuo was growing anxious, his Divine Sense detected a gorge between two mountains ahead. Although there was no water source to mask scents, the steep cliffs on either side made the middle area narrow—less than ten yards wide at its widest point—and it became increasingly constricted further in. 0

Without hesitation, Xunuo plunged into the gorge. Upon entering, he felt a surge of joy; this gorge was so deep and high that sunlight could not penetrate it. It was not only dark but also filled with a faint miasma. While this did not completely conceal his scent, it significantly reduced the chances of being detected. Fearing the miasma might affect him, Xunuo held his breath and proceeded cautiously. 0

As he ventured deeper into the gorge, it became narrower and the miasma thicker. After walking three to five miles, the gorge's width shrank to just over a yard. 0

Seeing this as an excellent ambush spot, Xunuo leaped up onto a vine extending from a cliff ten yards high. He then jumped onto another adjacent vine and continued backward for over thirty yards before finally hiding among vines three to five feet above ground. 0

Before long, he spotted two glowing green eyes of the Silverback Black Wolf approaching from behind—a pair of bright candles illuminating the darkness. The miasma in the gorge seemed to greatly affect the wolf's sense of smell; its speed had noticeably slowed down as it constantly lowered its head to search for Xunuo's scent left on the ground while occasionally looking around anxiously. The Silverback Black Wolf snorted nervously as it slowly approached Xunuo's hiding place. 0

In such an environment, Xunuo could barely see beyond two or three yards; however, this did not hinder his Divine Sense at all. Thus, he closed his eyes and maximized his Divine Sense to capture every movement of the Silverback Black Wolf in his mind. Moments later, the wolf tracked down to where Xunuo hid beneath the vines. 0

Xunuo's body hung down as he unleashed the Azure Edge, a brilliant flash of Azure Radiance enveloping the Silverback Black Wolf in a shimmering sword light. This strike was Xunuo's utmost effort, a culmination of careful thought based on the characteristics of the Silverback Black Wolf. 0

From both angle and speed, this strike was inescapable, destined to deliver a fatal blow. However, to Xunuo's astonishment, the outcome was entirely unexpected. 0

In an impossible turn of events, the Silverback Black Wolf sacrificed one of its front paws and managed to escape from beneath the sword light. It rolled on the ground in pain before turning to stand on three legs, glaring at Xunuo. 0

A sense of alarm surged within Xunuo as flames suddenly erupted in his left hand. Reciting a spell, he prepared to incinerate the Silverback Black Wolf. Yet, in an instant, the wolf flickered away, leaving behind a severed paw as it turned and fled deeper into the Gorge. 0

Seeing this, Xunuo quickly retracted his Fire Manipulation Technique and sprinted after it. The Silverback Black Wolf, now hindered by its lost paw, had slowed considerably. Even so, it quickly distanced itself from Xunuo. 0

Cursing under his breath, Xunuo did not let up his pace. He understood that he had severely provoked the creature. If he failed to kill it today, once it regained its strength, it would undoubtedly bring endless trouble to this beast-hunting operation. 0
