Chapter 8: Identity
Master Da led Lin Feng on their journey to a hidden realm.
"Senior Brother, where are we going?" Lin Feng asked.
"You will know when the time comes," Master Da replied.
Master Da traversed through space, crossing countless continents, until they finally arrived at a cliff. Looking down, they saw a series of mountain peaks, each one abruptly cut off at the top, revealing a vast flat area.
As Lin Feng and Master Da landed, they were greeted by a scene of withered trees and an atmosphere heavy with death.
Caw caw...
A few old crows flapped their wings and took flight from the dead branches. Their hoarse cries made the cliff seem even more desolate.
Rustle...
From the dry grass, an old gray rabbit emerged. It was plump and aged, its fur nearly falling off as it struggled to escape in fear.
"This place has the Great Emperor Formation. Follow my lead and do not make any sudden moves; one misstep could lead to instant annihilation," Master Da warned.
Hearing this, Lin Feng was greatly alarmed. "If there is indeed a Great Emperor Formation here, what kind of place is this? Could it be the tomb of an emperor?"
Master Da moved slowly, sometimes advancing, sometimes retreating, sometimes jumping, and sometimes flying. Though his movements seemed erratic, there was a method to his path.
After two full hours, they arrived at a void-like area. The atmosphere here was mysterious and made it hard to breathe.
This was a gorge, somewhat open yet surrounded by towering mountains. Within the gorge lay a lake filled with black water.
Hoo hoo hoo...
A sudden gust of black wind swept through Black Lake, sending chills down spines. The destructive force of the black wind was astonishing, lifting massive boulders into the air. The mountains seemed to crack and split apart.
Lin Feng shivered at the sight of the black wind. It was a fear that came from deep within his soul.
Master Da had already sensed it. With a flick of his sleeve, two beams of Divine Radiance shot forth, slicing through the black wind ahead.
Bang...
After a deafening roar, the black wind vanished. Everything returned to the eerie silence that had preceded it.
"What was that?" Lin Feng asked.
"Some evil spirits are being birthed," Master Da replied.
The lake's surface churned, accompanied by a series of croaking sounds.
A Black Monster Bird flew out from the water, followed by a second, then a third, and soon there were more and more. These Black Monster Birds radiated fierce black flames, their presence overwhelming.
"They exceed the aura of the Legendary Realm; they are at the False Saint Realm," Lin Feng exclaimed in shock.
The Void was filled with countless Blackbirds, covering the sky like a dark cloud that obscured the mountain peaks. They surged together, igniting black flames as they swooped down.
The entire mountain range trembled. The terrifying aura emitted by the Blackbirds caused even the mountains to begin melting into ashes.
Lin Feng summoned the Shoushan Bronze Cauldron to defend himself. One Blackbird was already enough to handle; he certainly didn't need to face countless others.
"What should we do?" Lin Feng asked. Even in the Sage Realm, facing countless Pseudo-Saints was overwhelming.
Countless Blackbirds filled the sky. Their destructive power was insurmountable, instilling a sense of despair. These malevolent spirits were born from immense power, existing for endless ages.
"I'll handle this."
Master Da stepped forward, unleashing a terrifying aura. His black hair billowed, and his robes fluttered as if he were a God King. Centered around Master Da, within a radius of a hundred feet, no force could penetrate. The Blackbirds that dared to invade were all reduced to dust.
Endless Blackbirds charged relentlessly against Master Da's manifestation, and without exception, they perished. The tranquil mountains suddenly echoed with their mournful cries.
The Blood Devouring Cauldron awakened on its own, voraciously absorbing these malevolent spirits. Patterns etched on its walls appeared in succession, enhancing the cauldron's mystical essence.
"It seems it really needs these."
After Master Da finished his defense, he no longer held back. He leaped up and removed his long robe. The robe suddenly expanded enormously, resembling a vast expanse of blue.
He draped the robe over the dense swarm of Blackbirds. Master Da then rolled up the robe, stuffing countless Blackbirds into the Blood Devouring Cauldron.
"Dominance," Lin Feng couldn't help but praise.
The Blood Devouring Cauldron devoured innumerable spirits from the False Saint Realm, emitting a buzzing sound of excitement. Its entire body shimmered with Divine Radiance, constantly shifting in form.
Master Da looked at the Blood Devouring Cauldron and said, "After this, it will become even more extraordinary."
Master Da led Lin Feng toward the center of the mountain range. Here lay the Great Emperor Formation, which prevented flight and forced them to move along specific paths. Their pace was slow as they encountered malevolent spirits time and again, capturing them all and tossing them to the Blood Devouring Cauldron.
After five full hours, they finally reached the heart of the mountain range.
This was a barren land, devoid of any vegetation. In this desolate place, there was an old man.
The old man wore an Ancient Robe and held a carving knife, painting on the black mountain surface.
Squeak...
I ran out and approached the old man, staring blankly at the characters and images he was creating.
"Don't run around; it's dangerous."
Lin Feng, worried, hurried closer. He also saw the captivating scene in the painting. At the beginning of the artwork were two Divine Monkeys. As it progressed, an ancient palace appeared. Inside the palace stood countless Soldiers.
The Divine Monkey bid farewell to its partner with reluctance in its eyes. It gently caressed its partner's belly, which was slightly rounded, indicating that she was pregnant.
In the end, the Divine Monkey charged forward, wielding an iron rod to battle the Soldiers.
The Divine Monkey fought fiercely, killing countless Soldiers. However, after a prolonged battle, it began to tire and gradually succumbed to the overwhelming numbers. With no help in sight, its partner leaped into action to assist the Divine Monkey against the Soldiers.
Ultimately, the Divine Monkey suffered severe injuries and nearly perished. Wounded, it took its partner away, sealing her with its last Bloodline power.
It let out a mournful cry at the painting, tears filling its eyes. Then it threw back its head and roared in anger, its voice shattering the white clouds above.
This was Lin Feng's first time witnessing tears. He thought of his mother.
The Divine Monkey's partner bore a striking resemblance to her.
"Is this my father? What kind of battle occurred back then? Why did they fight?"
"Lin Feng" murmured to himself as he held the figure in his arms, gently stroking his forehead to comfort him. The trembling gradually subsided in "Lin Feng's" embrace.
As the scene shifted, "Lin Feng" saw an extraordinary figure arriving on the back of the "Divine Dragon," wreaking havoc and leaving no one able to resist.
"This is the 'Emperor Huang,'" "Master Da" said.
"Is this place the tomb of 'Emperor Huang'?" "Lin Feng" asked in surprise.
"Master Da" shook his head. "This is where 'Emperor Huang' once secluded himself. Do you know why 'Shishu' is nameless?"
"Please enlighten me, Senior Brother," "Lin Feng" replied.
"'Shishu' is the son of 'Emperor Huang.'"
"What? 'Shishu' is 'Emperor's Son'?" "Lin Feng" was astonished.
"Master Da" nodded. "'Shishu' carries the 'Bloodline' of the great emperor within him, possessing unparalleled terror. He truly can be unmatched in this world. What kind of person is 'Emperor Huang'? 'Shishu' feels that no name can represent his existence, hence he does not take one. The origin of the 'Divine Ruins' comes from 'Shishu' taking the character for 'divine,' while my master used the character for 'ruins,' thus it became 'Divine Ruins.'"
It took a long time for "Lin Feng" to regain his composure. "I never expected that 'Shishu' is actually the son of 'Emperor Huang.' Then what about my master? What is his relationship with 'Emperor Huang'?"
"Master Da" replied, "The lineage of my master remains unclear, but unlike 'Shishu,' they were middle-aged men who regarded each other as confidants and became sworn brothers."
"To have a confidant in life is indeed a great fortune."
"Lin Feng" sighed as he looked at the engraved elder. He wanted to know who this old predecessor was and why he remained here to carve. When "Lin Feng" saw the elder's face, he was stunned. "Founder, is that you?"
The elder was none other than the "Elder of Solitary Moon City."
"Junior Brother, do you know this senior?" Master Da asked with delight.
Lin Feng nodded and recounted his encounter with the Elder of Solitary Moon City.
"This senior has been here for over a thousand years. He has never spoken and has only been engraving the remaining images," Master Da explained.
"Aren't these images all his work?" Lin Feng inquired.
"Not the ones at the front; you can tell they are different. These images depict the Apocalyptic War from ten thousand years ago. If you study them closely, you can sense the differences in the battles of the Emperor Realm, which will surely be of great benefit to you," Master Da replied.
"Let's remember these for later."
Lin Feng approached the old man respectfully and said, "Master Ancestor, I finally found you. No wonder your avatar couldn't detect your presence; it turns out you were isolated by the Great Emperor Formation."
The old man remained absorbed in his engraving, unresponsive to Lin Feng's words. No matter what Lin Feng said, the old man continued to be indifferent.
Lin Feng then summoned the Yuan Stone Coffin and said, "Master Ancestor, do you still remember this person?"
As the Yuan Stone Coffin appeared, the old man's vacant gaze slowly shifted to the transparent coffin, where he saw the figure inside. After a long moment, he murmured to himself, "Cold Moon."
His voice was hoarse and low, as if he hadn't spoken in a long time and had forgotten how to do so.
The old man set down his carving knife and walked over to the Yuan Stone Coffin, gently caressing it. His dazed expression gradually regained a hint of awareness.
Ah...
The old man let out a pained cry, and after a long while, his consciousness began to recover significantly.
“Cold Moon, what are you doing here?”
“Cold Moon, you still look so young and beautiful. As for me, I have grown old.”
“Cold Moon, I can’t find a way to bring you back. Then I will come to accompany you.”
The Ancestor, holding the Yuan Stone Coffin, transformed into a streak of light and entered deeper into the mountains.
“Founder…” Lin Feng shouted loudly, but the old man did not respond. Lin Feng was truly worried that the Founder might be feeling despondent.
Master Da looked in the direction where the old man had disappeared and said, “What is love in this world!”
“I hope the Founder doesn’t lose heart,” Lin Feng said, still looking worried.
“Let’s go; we have more important matters to attend to,” Master Da replied. With his cultivation, he could not stay for long.
The two of them arrived in front of the hundred-foot-long stone coffin. A terrifying pressure emanated from within the coffin. As Lin Feng gazed at it, he suddenly felt an irresistible attraction coming from inside the coffin, drawing him inexorably closer. (To be continued…)
