Chapter 154: The Clash of Swords
The Martial Examination continued. Today, Lin Feng's opponent was the First Demon Disciple, Meng Han, while Lin Miaomiao faced Fire Ling'er from the Raging Fire Cult. Both were formidable adversaries.
Lin Miaomiao looked at Lin Feng with a worried expression and said, "Be careful."
"You too," Lin Feng replied.
The two parted ways and headed to the Refined Iron Arena.
In the arena, Meng Han was already waiting. Seeing Lin Feng approach, he revealed a calm smile. He said softly, "I didn't expect to run into you so soon; it's a bit of a pity."
Meng Han's words were clear—facing him meant certain defeat for Lin Feng. If it weren't for this encounter, Lin Feng could have ranked even higher.
Looking at Meng Han, Lin Feng felt a surge of emotions.
In the past, when he first entered the borderlands and saw Meng Han standing alone against eight Fate Realization cultivators, he could only watch from a distance. But now, he had reached a level where he could stand eye to eye with him.
With this thought, Lin Feng's heart swelled with ambition. He had come a long way and finally made a name for himself.
Lin Feng said, "It's a pity this isn't the borderlands. Without your special powers activated, you might not be able to defeat me."
Few knew that Meng Han was a Cultist; Lin Feng was one of them. The greatest weapon of the demon race was their ability to unleash Demonic Blood Power. However, in today's Azure Cloud Sect, how could Meng Han activate his Demonic Blood Power?
Meng Han scrutinized Lin Feng carefully and suddenly noticed something. "I didn't expect you to grow stronger in just a few days. It seems today will be a fierce battle."
Lin Feng smiled and said, "It is a pleasure to battle with Brother Meng."
"If we could share a drink together, it would be even more enjoyable," Meng Han replied.
With that, the remaining moments were filled with their full-force confrontation.
Lin Feng spread his right hand, and a drop of dark green raindrop appeared in his palm. It was the Longing Tears given to him by the Sword Saint Senior, a treasure of Solitary Moon City.
"The two biggest dark horses of the Jiuzhou Gathering Conference have met."
"Indeed. Both of their strengths are formidable. It’s hard to say who will emerge victorious."
"Lin Feng from Solitary Moon City is at the mid-stage of Fate Realization. That Meng Han is at the peak of Fate Realization. From his last match, he hasn’t shown his full strength yet. I think Meng Han has a greater chance of winning."
Below the arena, many began to discuss among themselves.
Meng Han summoned his Destiny Artifact, a black knife, a Ninth-Grade Treasure.
Lin Feng looked at the knife and suddenly thought of something; he then put away Longing Tears. In his hand appeared a sword, which was also entirely black.
"Sky Sword, Ninth Grade." Someone recognized the origin of the sword in Lin Feng's hand.
"Is that Sword Saint Lin Bai's Sky Sword?"
"Years ago, Lin Bai defeated numerous heroes with this sword and entered the finals of that year's Jiuzhou Gathering Conference. Later, Lin Feng emerged from seclusion and used this sword to battle ten Demon Generals, killing five and injuring five."
Some elder figures couldn't help but speak upon seeing the sword.
"This sword has once again appeared at the Jiuzhou Gathering Conference. It seems this person must be the direct disciple of Sword Saint Lin Bai."
Meng Han's knife trembled and roared in response to the moment Lin Feng's sword appeared, as if it wanted to leap from his hand. A thick aura of malevolence spread from the knife.
Meng Han gently spoke, "This knife is named Fu, my master's blade, and now it has passed into my hands."
Lin Feng replied, "I see. No wonder your knife reacts so strongly to my Sword Intent."
However, Lin Feng's Sky Sword did not awaken; it remained cold and aloof, ignoring the existence of the Fu knife. It was merely a defeated foe from years past.
"Interesting."
Meng Han felt a surge of battle intent within him. That year, the Sky Sword was a mark of shame for the demon clan. Now, with the passage of time, things had changed. The Fu knife was now in his hands, and here at the Jiu Zhou Gathering, he saw the sword of the Sword Saint passed down to his direct disciple.
The humiliation of the previous generation, Meng Han felt, should be avenged by his own generation.
Meng Han said, "Initially, I had no intention of using my full strength. However, even if I agreed to that, my knife would not allow it."
Ninth-Grade Treasure. It inherently concealed immense power and had its own will. However, a Fate Realization cultivator could not awaken the intent within a Ninth-Grade Treasure. Only a disciple who inherited through Bloodline could call upon it slightly through their Bloodline connection to unleash some of the intent contained within the Ninth-Grade Treasure.
But today, the double-edged sword unexpectedly slipped from Meng Han's right hand. It stood upright in the void above, like a sentient being. The Sword Intent spread out like a fierce cold wind across a barren desert.
Seeing this scene, an elder couldn't help but exclaim, "At such a young age, he can awaken the intent within a Ninth-Grade Treasure. A rare talent indeed."
Lin Feng gazed at the sword in the air, radiating a sense of destructive danger that surpassed his own capabilities. Yet, there was not a trace of worry in Lin Feng's heart.
Standing with the Sky Sword cradled in his arms, Lin Feng awaited the awakening of its Sword Intent.
In the past, he would have never possessed such confidence. However, today, having comprehended his own Sword Intent and witnessed countless Sword Techniques, Lin Feng felt a fifty percent certainty of gaining recognition from the Sky Sword and awakening its Sword Intent, even if he could not earn the approval of the Moon City Sword.
The other fifty percent stemmed from the provocation of the sword before him.
"Slaughtering Technique!"
Meng Han shouted as he brought his hands together above his head and then swung forward with all his might. At the same time, the sword in the void crazily absorbed the surrounding Vital Energy and unleashed an astonishing strike.
A massive blade shadow loomed over the entire Arena, descending upon Lin Feng's head. In comparison to that gigantic blade shadow, Lin Feng appeared as insignificant as a blade of grass.
"Awaken, Xiaohan."
Lin Feng silently prayed and raised the Sky Sword high above his head.
An unprecedented pressure erupted from within the Sky Sword—a powerful and formidable Sword Intent. The Sword Intent roared like a Dragon's Roar, instilling fear in all who heard it.
As the Sword Intent of the dual blades descended, the Sky Sword surged upward like a solid beam of light.
Thunderous Roar...
The clash of blades produced an unprecedented roar that drowned out all other sounds of combat in the Arena. Fighters paused, turning their attention to Lin Feng.
A tremendous force radiated outward, striking the defensive array of the Arena. The deafening sound reverberated again and again, shaking the barriers of the formation.
"This is bad; the formation shows signs of failing. Quick, reinforce it!"
Elder Butler exclaimed, and several elders rushed forward, beginning to cast spells to maintain the defensive array.
The Sky Sword's Sword Intent struck like a mighty foot, kicking the dual blades aside and sending them back to their original position, hovering above Meng Han's head.
"It has awakened."
A surge of joy filled Lin Feng. He realized that this battle was no longer just a contest between him and Meng Han, but rather a showdown between the Sky Sword and the dual blades. He and Meng Han were merely the fuses igniting this clash.
In terms of momentum and power, the Sky Sword naturally held the upper hand.
In Gaojing, at the Medicine King Pavilion, a Peerless Woman dressed in white emanated a faint fragrance.
She sat quietly at the counter, lightly tapping on the desk as she said, "The Guan Family still hasn't shown up. Do I really have to tear this place apart for her to appear?"
"Master Xiao, you are a dragon among men, destined to roam the world. I wonder what brings you to my humble Medicine King Pavilion?"
An old man, hunched over and leaning on a bamboo staff, quietly emerged from a nearby corridor.
"Do you still have the face to ask why I'm here?"
Xiao Mi looked at the Bamboo Elder with a mocking expression and said, "The Medicine King Pavilion has been able to thrive in Gaojing and even expand its influence across the nine provinces thanks to Master Guan's principled business practices."
"Since Master Guan has stepped back, it seems the Guan Family has strayed from his original intentions."
At this point, Xiao Mi paused slightly and continued, "You old fool. You killed my junior brother. Do you really think that your wealth and power can shield you?"
The Bamboo Elder hesitated for a moment, thinking to himself that after committing murder, it was quite effective to destroy the body and erase all traces. How could he have been discovered?
"Master Xiao must be mistaken," the Bamboo Elder insisted stubbornly.
Xiao Mi slapped the desk lightly, and with a loud bang, the entire counter turned to dust. "Old fool, do you think you've cleaned up well enough?"
"You are too old. You can't even withstand a single blow from me. If the Guan Family doesn't show up soon, I'll start tearing down the door."
"Master Xiao, why such aggression?"
As a calm and gentle voice echoed, the Guan Family member dressed in a black dress slowly stepped forward.
Xiao Mi coldly stared at the Guan Family member and asked, "Why did you kill my junior brother?"
"He deserved it," the Guan Family member did not deny.
"Engaging in the struggle for sect power, it seems the Medicine King Pavilion's foundation built over thousands of years will be destroyed by your hands."
After Xiao Mi finished speaking, Delicate Hand lightly clapped three times in the air. From the Void, three small daggers made of condensed raindrops appeared out of thin air.
The daggers exuded an incredibly sharp aura, slicing through the void as they shot toward Bamboo Elder.
Bamboo Elder looked at the daggers, feeling as if thousands of them were flying toward him, leaving him no chance to evade. He immediately formed a seal, dark energy surging within him as countless black bamboos rose from the ground. These bamboos intertwined with each other, forming a wall.
The first dagger pierced into the black bamboo, causing nearly half of it to collapse.
The second dagger struck the black bamboo as well, causing all of it to disintegrate and vanish. The dagger then hit Bamboo Elder's chest armor but posed no threat to his life.
However, the third deadly dagger came rushing in, and Bamboo Elder's pupils contracted as he realized he could not defend against it.
At that moment, a sound of a zither rang out. It was light as a sword, clashing with the third dagger. With a loud bang, both disappeared without a trace.
"Seeing is believing; the Guan Family truly lives up to its reputation," Xiao Mi said politely as he looked at the Guan Family.
The Guan Family smiled slightly and replied, "Master Xiao, I assure you that my actions are reasonable and in accordance with the rules of Gaojing."
"Is that so? Unfortunately, I do not understand the rules of Gaojing; I only have my own rules."
Xiao Mi struck again, instantly unleashing dozens of rain daggers. The Guan Family was not idle either; with both hands on the zither, Delicate Hand danced swiftly, and the music surged forth like Tens of Thousands of Troops rushing to battle.
Bamboo Elder was also quite busy, continuously dispersing his cultivation energy to form a defensive circle, ensuring that the Medicine King Pavilion remained unharmed.
"Master Xiao, you're causing quite a stir here. This is not good for you," the Guan Family advised.
"If I must die, having the Guan Family as company on the road to the underworld won't be lonely," Xiao Mi replied coldly. (To be continued...)
