Chapter 11 Encounter with Zhu Xi
On the monument, the top ten disciples were expected to find hidden entrances. However, they felt it unnecessary to complicate matters and waste time, so they chose a nearby entrance to enter.
For those in the early and mid-stages of Fate Realization, finding a hidden entrance was quite difficult. Thus, the only ones who could find it were those like Fu Yi Lin, who simply had not caught up in cultivation yet.
Such disciples have always been referred to as Dark Horses.
At the start of today's first trial, two Dark Horses emerged. One was Meng Han, the First Demon Disciple, and the other was Lin Feng from Solitary Moon City.
Elder Lin looked at the astonished expressions of the crowd and revealed a proud smile. He said, "This person is my disciple from Lone Moon Sect, named Lin Feng. He has been cultivating in Solitary Moon City for two years and has reached the early stage of Fate Realization."
Upon hearing this, Elder Steward of Qingyun Sect was slightly moved and remarked, "In just two years, without any special physique, he has reached the early stage of Fate Realization cultivation. Such a person can be considered talented. With his abilities, why is he not on the Nameless Stone Tablet?"
Cold Rain also expressed confusion: "The tablet traditionally ranks based on Foundation and overall ability. Given his comprehensive capabilities, he should be on the tablet."
Yue Huai Shan speculated, "Some secret sects in the world possess techniques that can obscure a disciple's aura, preventing their name from appearing on the tablet. For instance, among the royal family, I know that princes of the Great Zhou Empire and Princess Jian'an of the Tang Empire have both reached the peak of Fate Realization; they should be named on the tablet."
Elder Lin chuckled and said, "You all think too much. My Solitary Moon City has not placed any obscuring restrictions or divine abilities on him."
"Then this person is quite intriguing; let’s see how he performs later," Cold Rain said with newfound interest in Lin Feng.
As they entered the mountain path, they began their ascent.
This path was not a straight climb up the mountain. Along the way, various glimmering objects appeared—some resembling swords and others like scrolls or jade slips containing Martial Arts Techniques. From their emanating power, it was clear they were top-tier Martial Arts Techniques and Divine Abilities that stirred one's heart.
Each time a glimmering object appeared, a path would lead to it.
A lone cultivator disciple had never seen so many treasures and Martial Arts Techniques before. After passing several times, he could no longer resist and stepped onto one of the paths. The luminous object seemed to move; he followed it but found that his distance from it remained unchanged.
Finally, when he managed to grasp the luminous object, he discovered it was actually an illusion created by a High-Quality Origin Stone. By the time he realized something was wrong, he found himself standing at the foot of Treading Green Peak, which meant he was out of the competition.
Disciples from various sects and even all lone cultivator disciples had heard before coming here that they would encounter temptations along the way that would test their dedication to their path. Yet still, some could not resist the allure.
Not all Luminous Objects are false; among them are truly powerful treasures and Martial Arts Techniques. If one possesses sufficient ability to discern the genuine and formidable treasures, venturing into the branches not only allows for the acquisition of these treasures but also ensures a safe return.
Lin Feng was unaware that the obstacles he encountered along the way were illusions; no one had ever warned him. Elder Lin and Elder Yue had always been indifferent towards Lin Feng.
On the Viewing Platform, Elder Lin watched as Lin Feng paused to observe a Luminous Object, unable to suppress a sigh: "Alas, I never expected this person to easily defeat a mid-stage Fate Realization Walker. Had I known, I should have reminded him not to be deceived by the illusions along the mountain path."
Lin Feng stood still, focusing his mind and quietly sensing the glowing spots around him before uttering two words: "False."
He strode forward, continuing his ascent. Along the way, he encountered various Luminous Objects, each time discerning their authenticity before proceeding.
With each declaration of "false" from Lin Feng, Elder Butler's expression grew increasingly serious on the Viewing Platform.
At the foot of the mountain, finding a hidden entrance was not difficult for a peak Fate Realization Walker. However, accurately distinguishing the true nature of Luminous Objects during the climb proved to be quite challenging.
At that moment, Lin Feng's voice rang out again: "Finally encountered something real. Unfortunately, it's just a Seventh Rank treasure—a blue-handled axe. No need for it."
Upon hearing this, Elder Butler couldn't help but exclaim, "Elder Lin, isn't this person a direct disciple of the Sword Saint?"
Just as Elder Lin was about to respond, Lin Feng spoke up again: "So far on my ascent, I've encountered a total of one thousand two hundred Luminous Objects, with only five being genuine. The highest-ranked among them is merely an Eight-Tiered Sword. This Azure Cloud Sect is rather stingy; with such a low ratio of real treasures, I might as well hurry up and continue climbing."
Others might not know, but Lin Feng was well aware of the climbing formation set by Elder Butler. The one thousand two hundred Luminous Objects were not merely illusions encountered on his own path but included all Luminous Objects present on any mountain path below his current height on Treading Green Peak.
In other words, Lin Feng could see not only the Luminous Objects on his own path but also those on others' paths.
Moreover, he could sense the existence of all one hundred mountain paths.
Cold Rain displayed an approving expression; with her Foundation level, she naturally saw through the truth at a glance. She remarked, "It seems I can report back to His Majesty now."
"The Sword Saint has never concerned himself with matters in Solitary Moon City. This time he has indeed taken on a good disciple yet deliberately concealed this person's information from being recorded in the stele. Is it just because he is an exceptional disciple? Why go to such lengths to maintain an air of mystery?" Elder Butler scoffed.
As it stood, Lin Feng's astonishing performance could only be attributed to having received true teachings from Sword Saint Lin Bai. Otherwise, there was no other reasonable explanation.
Since everyone had already gathered, Elder Lin chose not to elaborate further, thinking to himself: This person has only been in Solitary Moon City for less than half a year; how could they possibly be the closed-door disciple of my master? This is fine, it will make Solitary Moon City famous.
Lin Feng ascended the mountain path, watching as the straight trail began to curve and eventually merged with other paths. Then Lin Feng saw another person, a beautiful woman dressed in elegant attire.
Elder Butler observed this scene with growing interest and remarked, "It seems we have encountered Zhu Xi, a disciple of Azure Cloud Sect. I wonder if the Sword Saint's closed-door disciple can prevail."
One hundred mountain paths rose straight up, with every two paths converging, indicating that a battle between the two was inevitable.
The first trial of climbing the mountain was merely to allow the young heroes to make their appearances. The converging paths represented encounters of strength and weakness, showcasing the extraordinary talents of the disciples.
"He Rongsheng from Azure Cloud Sect raises his hand and defeats his opponent, becoming the first to successfully reach the summit in this trial."
"Barbarian Qingshan follows closely behind, becoming the second."
"Guo Tie from Divine General Manor also defeats his opponent with a single punch, claiming third place at the top."
"Fire Ling'er from Raging Fire indeed astonishes everyone. She also wins immediately, securing fourth place at the summit."
"…"
Soon, the top fifteen disciples on the Ranking on the Stele swiftly defeated their opponents with overwhelming force, demonstrating their exceptional abilities.
Lin Feng looked at Zhu Xi before him and sensed that her Foundation was actually at the peak of Fate Realization. He couldn't help but frown slightly. Without any Divine Techniques at his disposal, his only hope of victory lay in entering her one-zhang radius and engaging in close combat.
Zhu Xi gazed at Lin Feng and listened to the occasional announcements of victories. She felt somewhat moved and said, "I didn't expect you to come up as well?"
Hearing her words laden with meaning, Lin Feng pondered for a moment and replied, "So it was you who arranged for the trouble at the foot of the mountain? Who are you? From Azure Cloud Sect?"
"Zhu Xi from Azure Cloud Sect. He Rongsheng's junior sister, ranked ninth on the Ranking on the Stele, at the peak of Fate Realization."
Zhu Xi announced her name, which was renowned enough to make any early-stage Fate Realization Walker tremble in fear.
"Such a narrow path for enemies."
Lin Feng smiled, his expression calm, showing no signs of fear or panic. Instead, there was a hint of satisfaction.
"I don't know what grievances you have with my senior brother. However, his matters are my matters. If he has troubles he can't resolve, I'll take care of them. He should be quite pleased to hear that," Zhu Xi said with a smile.
Lin Feng nodded in response, "That's true. But if he finds out that you were taken down by me, I wonder if he would be even more 'pleased'?"
Lin Feng deliberately used the crude term "taken down" and twisted the word "pleased," intending to provoke Zhu Xi.
Upon hearing this, Zhu Xi indeed became angry. "What a mouthful! You disciples from Solitary Moon City are all useless. Today, when a promising disciple finally emerges, you don't know your place and act arrogantly. How disgraceful."
Zhu Xi's words were naturally directed at Lin Miaomiao.
Lin Feng was unaware of Zhu Xi's hatred towards Lin Miaomiao and couldn't grasp the underlying meaning. However, he felt insulted and retorted, "Isn't your current outburst just like a dog jumping over the wall in desperation?"
"You dare call me a dog?" Zhu Xi's anger was barely contained.
"I didn't, but you seem to have admitted it yourself," Lin Feng feigned laughter, acting pleased with himself.
"You're asking for death."
Zhu Xi stopped wasting words and drew her longsword. She wielded a Blue Longsword of the ninth grade, named Azure Domain. As she swung the sword, it emanated a powerful Vital Energy Power.
With a flick of her wrist, she unleashed the Azure Cloud Sword Technique: Cloud Horse Style.
Vital Energy surged wildly within her, coalescing into an enormous white horse that charged towards Lin Feng.
The white horse glowed with blue light, embodying the power of the Ninth-Grade Longsword itself.
Lin Feng could sense that Zhu Xi's Cloud Horse Style was far more powerful than Xiao Ran's version from that day. He considered retreating to wait for an opportunity to close in within ten feet of Zhu Xi.
But thinking of Zhu Xi's earlier insults, he felt a sense of unwillingness.
In his youthful arrogance, his pride would not allow him to be demeaned. It was not a matter of life and death; there was no need to endure humiliation.
Lin Feng unleashed the Vital Energy within him, charging directly into the Cloud Steed, wielding the Hurricane Fist to strike at the Cloud Steed. With a series of explosive sounds, Lin Feng forcefully shattered one Cloud Steed after another.
However, there was still a significant gap in their Foundation. The last horse evaded Lin Feng's attack and crashed heavily into his back.
Lin Feng immediately felt a wave of gravity hit him, causing his blood to surge. He lost his balance and was sent flying, crashing against the Mountain Path Barrier before bouncing back.
In the moment he landed, Lin Feng flipped in mid-air, absorbing some of the impact so that he did not fall awkwardly to the ground.
Zhu Xi looked at the blood at the corner of Lin Feng's mouth and revealed a look of disdain. "A mere clown, truly not worth my time." (To be continued...)
