Chapter One Hundred and Five: A Sword a Hundred Miles
The moment Lin Feng stepped back, Lin Miaomiao became extremely calm, her eyes fixed intently on the Masked Man. At the same time, her right hand tightly gripped the jade slip that Elder Xu had given her.
"Today, if I don't carve you into a thousand pieces, my hatred will not be quelled."
The Masked Man trembled with rage. Having reached the Enlightenment Realm in cultivation, he was a figure revered by thousands wherever he went. How could he endure such insults from Lin Feng?
He slowly drew his long sword and with a swift motion, unleashed a sword aura like a rainbow. In the night, it was dazzling, resembling a straight beam of light that shot towards Lin Feng at an unimaginable speed.
Lin Feng immediately summoned the Bloodthirsty Cauldron to defend himself.
The sword aura struck the Bloodthirsty Cauldron with a resounding clang. The sound was particularly piercing, shattering the walls of the houses on either side.
"Damn it, how did a crack suddenly appear on the wall?"
"Impossible, you must be seeing things."
"…"
The people inside the house began to chatter noisily.
Meanwhile, Lin Feng, along with the Bloodthirsty Cauldron and Miaomiao behind him, was sent flying several yards into the air before crashing heavily to the ground. Both of them spat out blood simultaneously.
Even though Lin Feng shielded Miaomiao, she sustained slightly more severe injuries than he did due to her fragile physique. Strangely enough, as Miaomiao was injured, Earth Qi automatically surged into her body, healing her wounds.
"Surprisingly not dead! The cauldron is quite remarkable, and so is this person."
A faint smile appeared on the Masked Man's face; this was supposed to be an ambush without any suspense. Then, casually, he unleashed a second wave of sword aura.
This time, without a second thought, Miaomiao crushed the jade slip in her hand. At that moment, a white sword of light descended from the Void of night at an unimaginable speed, plunging straight down onto the Masked Man's head.
This sword was at least a hundred feet long, towering like a mountain and shining as brightly as the midday sun, making it impossible to look directly at. The moment this sword of light condensed from sword aura appeared, it illuminated the entire capital of the Great Tang.
Meanwhile, as the Miao Miao Jade was crushed, the jade tablet emitted a brilliant light. Under the surge of terrifying power, it condensed into a White Sword. This sword was only the size of a palm, yet in an instant, it shot toward the Masked Man.
The palm-sized sword moved with such speed that it pierced through the Masked Man's chest almost as soon as it appeared. The man let out a muffled groan and fell lifelessly.
At the moment the Masked Man's body was about to hit the ground, Ye Void's massive sword slowly descended. Before it could touch the ground, the sword energy beneath it obliterated the Masked Man into ashes.
"How powerful!"
Lin Feng and Miaomiao exclaimed simultaneously, astonished by Elder Xu's jade tablet's incredible power that could instantly kill a strong opponent in the Enlightenment Realm.
"Lin Feng, was the sword energy that fell from the sky your jade tablet?" Miaomiao asked.
Lin Feng shook his head and replied, "I do have the jade tablet given to me by Sword Saint Senior, but I haven't used it yet."
"Then where did it come from?" Miaomiao asked in confusion.
Lin Feng and Miaomiao quietly gazed at Ye Void's enormous light sword, which overshadowed the brilliance of the full moon. The Masked Man was already dead, yet the sword remained suspended in the night sky.
In Solitary Moon City, at the ancestral hall.
Elder Xu stood at the entrance of the hall, facing the direction of Tang Empire's capital. He closed his eyes in concentration, his expression grave. Countless terrifying Vital Energy Powers swirled around him like a storm, forming a vortex of Vital Energy that reached a height of a hundred feet.
The ancestral hall in Solitary Moon City was under immense pressure; the protective formation automatically activated. As melodious ringing echoed, Vital Energy coalesced into an ancient tower shape that enveloped the entire hall.
Suddenly, Elder Xu slowly opened his eyes. Looking towards Tang Empire's capital miles away, he said solemnly, "No one is allowed to touch my disciple Xu Mo Wen."
As Elder Xu finished speaking, a gigantic sword towering like a mountain above Tang Empire's capital suddenly exploded. It transformed into a declaration that resonated throughout the entire city.
"No one is allowed to touch my disciple Xu Mo Wen."
Each word struck like thunder on a clear day, overwhelming Tang Empire's entire capital with its force.
"So it turns out Master acted from miles away," Lin Miaomiao realized.
Lin Feng suppressed the shock in his heart and after a long while said, "This Elder Xu is surprisingly powerful? No wonder he has such a peculiar temperament. He truly deserves his reputation."
Then, Lin Feng and Lin Miaomiao exchanged smiles. It started with a gentle smile, then turned into chuckles, and finally erupted into hearty laughter.
With such a strong backing, how could they not feel exhilarated?
In the capital, Fortune Palace.
The Joyful Empress had just returned to the palace when she saw the mountain-like sword of light above the Tang Empire's night sky. Sensing that the aura of the sword came from Solitary Moon City, the Joyful Empress couldn't help but furrow her brows.
As the giant sword suddenly exploded into thunderous characters, the Joyful Empress couldn't help but shiver.
"Xu Mo Wen, who is he? Why have I never heard of him?" The Joyful Empress asked gravely as she recovered from her shock.
The middle-aged palace maid who had been whispering to her frowned and replied, "He is Lin Bai's senior brother."
"The Sword Saint's senior brother? There’s such a figure in Solitary Moon City? How come I've never heard of him?" The Joyful Empress asked curiously.
The middle-aged woman responded, "In the past, the top three names on the monument all came from Solitary Moon City. The first was Lin Bai, followed by his senior brother Xu Mo Wen, and the third was their junior sister Mo Yunshang."
"That year, Solitary Moon City was quite prominent, overshadowing Azure Cloud Sect, the number one sect in Zhongzhou. If it weren't for a dark horse named Dugu Po who emerged and defeated Lin Bai, that year's Jiuzhou Gathering Conference would have become a trial ground for their Inner Sect Disciples."
"Get to the point," the Joyful Empress said impatiently.
"Strangely enough, Xu Mo Wen did not participate in that year's Jiuzhou Gathering Conference. It was unprecedented for someone ranked second on the monument to not take part."
"Later, when the demon clan invaded, Lin Bai led his junior sister into battle while Xu Mo Wen guarded the Mountain Gate. That battle established Lin Bai's fame but made everyone forget about that nameless powerhouse from Solitary Moon City."
The Joyful Empress revealed a stern expression and pondered for a moment before asking, "What foundation has he reached?"
"He was already at the peak of Enlightenment a century ago; as for now, I do not know what foundation he has attained," the middle-aged woman replied with a serious expression.
Fate Realization is a threshold in a cultivator's life; very few can cross it. Those who do can touch upon the Dao and gain its recognition, stepping into the Enlightenment Realm as cultivators are even rarer.
After the Enlightenment, progress in cultivation became exceedingly difficult. Thus, a Walker at the Initial Stage of Enlightenment would find it nearly impossible to contend with a Walker in the mid-stage of Enlightenment unless wielding a Sacred Artifact. Achieving the Enlightenment Realm marked a significant divide among Walkers, distinguishing them by their foundational levels.
In the Cultivation World, those who reached the late stage of the Enlightenment Realm were referred to as Masters. Those who attained the peak of the Enlightenment Realm were called Grandmasters and could establish their own sects. At an even higher level, known as the Cave Profound Realm, they were referred to as Transcendents.
"Everyone believes that Solitary Moon City has stood for a thousand years due to the reputation of the Sword Saint. Little do they know that Xu Mo Wen can be equally astonishing when he goes mad," a middle-aged woman added.
The Joyful Empress remained silent for a long time before finally speaking, "Which of those two young men is his disciple?"
"It should be that Ethereal Body. I’ve heard that Xu Mo Wen and Lin Bai have never involved themselves in Solitary Moon City's affairs and do not take on disciples. As a result, the disciples of Solitary Moon City have become increasingly mediocre over the years. Now that Solitary Moon City has taken in a rare Ethereal Body, it may have piqued Xu Mo Wen's interest," the middle-aged woman analyzed seriously.
The Joyful Empress sighed and said, "What a pity. A strong Enlightenment Realm cultivator has been sacrificed for nothing. If my brother knew that Elder Liu died like this, he would surely be very angry."
"Your Majesty, do we still need to seize the Purple Jade Glass Skirt?" the middle-aged woman asked.
The Joyful Empress shook her head and replied, "Not for now. We can only find an opportunity to act once she leaves Yang Prefecture and heads to Zhongzhou. We must take away that Holy Armor."
"That girl is so young yet can wear Holy Armor; isn't she afraid of being condemned?"
The Joyful Empress displayed an expression of jealousy and displeasure.
The next day, in Solitary Moon City, the Fire Departure Sect, Flowing Cloud Sect, and other forces or young elite Loose Cultivators gathered in Taihe Hall within the palace.
The commotion from last night was too great; everyone present was aware of it. They all looked toward the three disciples from Solitary Moon City, their expressions varying—some filled with awe, others with disdain, and some with scorn.
The disciples of Fire Departure Sect looked at those from Solitary Moon City with contempt. For decades at the Jiuzhou Gathering Conference, Fire Departure Sect had consistently been a leader among the Three Major Sects of Yangzhou.
Thus, Fire Departure Sect had already become the foremost sect in Yang Prefecture.
"The Emperor has arrived! The Joyful Empress has arrived! Princess Jian'an has arrived!"
"Long live the Emperor! Long live! Long live!"
"Long live the Joyful Empress! Long live! Long live!"
"Princess Jian'an, auspicious."
Inside the grand hall, all the disciples from various sects respectfully knelt and bowed. Amidst the crowd, a handsome and imposing middle-aged man dressed in a dragon robe strode in with an air of authority.
Behind him, the Joyful Empress wore splendid attire, her high coiffure adorned with dazzling golden hairpins, exuding elegance and grandeur.
Lin Feng's gaze did not linger on the formidable Emperor or the unparalleled beauty of the Joyful Empress; instead, it was fixed on Princess Jian'an.
"Jin'er..." From the direction of the Flowing Cloud Sect, Sima Shangshan couldn't help but exclaim, his eyes sparkling with joy.
"My lord..."
Though he had prayed for Tang Jiner's survival, he never imagined that today he would truly see her standing alive before him. Lin Feng was stunned in place.
