Chapter One Hundred and Two: Ninth-Order Ferocious Beast
In Qingshan Town, Lin Family Village.
A young man dressed in a black robe rode a Dark Horse to the entrance of Lin Family Village. His hat obscured his face. He slightly lifted his head, facing the wind, and quietly gazed at the towering stone tablet ahead.
Three characters were inscribed on the tablet: Lin Family Village.
"I have returned."
The young man revealed a chilling smile, then waved his sleeve, sending a surge of Vital Energy toward the standing stone tablet. With a loud bang, the tablet shattered into pieces.
Two Lin Clan Members passing by saw someone daring to destroy the monument and immediately pointed at the young man, shouting angrily, "Who do you think you are? How dare you vandalize our village monument? Do you want to die?"
The young man silently regarded the two, not uttering a word. He simply extended his hand forward. A powerful surge of Vital Energy coalesced into a giant Palm Seal and struck heavily against the Lin Clan Member who had spoken.
Bang...
Another explosion echoed as that person's body was obliterated, flesh and blood splattering everywhere, leaving only a pool of blood behind.
The remaining individual, witnessing this scene, screamed in terror and frantically ran toward Lin Family Village.
"Ahhhhhh..."
This person was so frightened that he lost his wits, unable to articulate anything as he sprinted in panic through Lin Family Village, drawing the attention of many.
"What happened to Lin Erniu?"
"It seems like someone is frightened."
"Didn't he just go out to the town for errands?"
"Let's go out and see."
A few members of the Lin Clan gathered at the village entrance, and as more people died, it ultimately drew Lin Xiao's attention.
Lin Xiao arrived at the village entrance and looked at the several corpses lying on the ground, his anger boiling over. He glared at the Black-Robed Youth and demanded, "Who are you? Dare to come to my Lin Clan and kill?"
"Take a good look at who I am."
As the Black-Robed Youth spoke, he slowly lifted his hood.
Upon seeing the youth, Lin Xiao couldn't help but gasp in shock. "It's you?"
The Black-Robed Youth let out a chilling laugh, his voice cold and terrifying.
"That's right, it's me. You didn't expect this, did you? On that day, you killed my grandfather here, and today, I will use your blood to honor his soul."
Lin Xiao felt the oppressive aura emanating from Lin Qing, dark and foreboding. He realized that no matter what happened, he could not escape death today. So he boldly declared, "Kill me or torture me; do as you wish."
"To kill you would only be giving you an easy way out. Where are those despicable Lin Couple? Why haven't they arrived yet?"
Lin Qing's gaze swept over the crowd until it landed on one of the elders. Lin Feng coldly remarked, "Lin Chang Kong, weren't you sworn brothers with my grandfather? Now that my grandfather has met such a tragic end, why aren't you avenging him?"
The elder known as Lin Chang Kong's eyes flickered as he pondered internally. He secretly felt that Lin Qing's side seemed stronger, so he stepped out from among the Lin Clan members and said, "Qing, you don't understand. I have endured humiliation and hardship just waiting for your return so we can work together."
“Lin Chang Kong, you shameless scoundrel,” Lin Xiao exclaimed angrily, unable to believe that this Elder was such a two-faced person.
“You once fought alongside my grandfather, and now that he is dead, you have no reason to live.”
Upon hearing the coldness in Lin Qing's words, Lin Chang Kong immediately begged for mercy. “Qing, for the sake of my friendship with your grandfather, spare my life today.”
“Everyone must die. You need not fear; you will simply die a little earlier than the others.”
As Lin Qing waved his hand, a palm-sized Palm Seal shot out, directly striking Lin Chang Kong on the head. With a loud bang, Lin Chang Kong's head exploded, leaving behind a headless corpse.
Such a terrifying method of killing completely shocked all the Lin Clan members. They knelt down one after another, pleading for mercy in fear.
Lin Xiao suppressed his anger and fear, speaking in a deep voice. “Lin Qing, debts should be paid to their rightful owners. If there are grievances, come at me. Why kill the innocent indiscriminately?”
“Why rush? Once I’ve killed every man, woman, and child of the Lin surname, I will turn my blade on you three. Until then, you three can just enjoy the show. Oh, by the way, Lindor and that pair of dog-like couple haven’t shown up yet. It seems I’ll have to slow down my pace and take my time.”
Lin Qing revealed a chilling smile that was utterly sinister.
“I’ll fight you to the end.”
With that, Lindor unleashed his cultivation and charged at Lin Qing. Lin Qing remained unfazed; with a flick of his hand, a surge of Vital Energy shot out, sending Lin Xiao flying back to crash into a stone lion at the village entrance.
“I decide when you die; don’t rush it,” he chuckled ominously.
As Lin Qing slowly continued his killing spree and Lin Xiao lay powerless and sighing in despair, it seemed no one noticed the stone lion behind Lin Xiao slowly turning its head to quietly observe everything.
It was the Nine-Tiered Fierce Beasts sent by the Old Spirit Monkey to guard Lin Family Village. It appeared to be judging whether this person had come merely for personal revenge or if he intended to slaughter the entire village.
After all, it was the noble Nine-Tiered Fierce Beasts. It was already quite embarrassing to guard a remote village. If they often resorted to violence over disputes between villages, that would be even more disgraceful.
"It seems this person is not here to play; he truly comes to stir up trouble."
The Nine-Tiered Fierce Beasts were the only noble ferocious beasts capable of cultivating towards the direction of spirit beasts, and they could even understand some simple human language. Then, the stone lion gently exhaled, sending Lin Xiao flying several feet away.
The stone lion raised its front leg and slowly aimed it at Lin Qing.
At that moment, as the stone lion blew out air, a Black-Robed Figure suddenly appeared, darting past Lin Qing with astonishing speed while shouting loudly, "Lin Qing, get out of the way!"
Lin Qing was very familiar with that voice but had never heard it sound so terrified before. He looked up at the enormous shadow pressing down on him.
This shadow was not actually large; it was only about ten feet in diameter, resembling the paw of a ferocious beast. However, Lin Qing felt as if this paw blocked all his escape routes, making it seem vast and boundless.
"What is this?" Lin Qing let out a reluctant roar. After finally achieving success in his cultivation and returning to bloodily exact revenge on the Lin Clan, he never expected such an ending.
The stone lion's enlarged front leg came crashing down towards Lin Qing. With a thunderous boom that shook the ground, the stone lion's leg created a massive pit in the earth, ten feet long and deep.
The stone lion lifted its front leg and quietly gazed into the deep pit, finding no trace of that person. It seemed he had escaped. The stone lion didn't care and returned to its slumbering state.
All the Lin Clan members, including Lin Xiao, alternated their gazes between the stone lion and the deep pit, then back to the stone lion again.
Everything felt like a dream; it was too surreal. In the end, they knelt before the stone lion in gratitude, tears streaming down their faces.
Ten miles away on the desolate plain, two shadows suddenly appeared. They simultaneously spat out mouthfuls of fresh blood. The middle-aged man's face was extremely pale, his lips trembling as if he had suffered severe injuries. Meanwhile, Lin Qing had already fallen unconscious, his breath faint to the extreme.
"How could there be Nine-Tiered Fierce Beasts guarding this place? How is that possible?" The Middle-Aged Man in Black Robe said with lingering fear.
In the capital of the Tang Empire, the palaces were numerous, with towers every three steps and buildings every ten. As far as the eye could see, the landscape rose and fell, seemingly endless. The palaces were magnificent, resplendent in gold and jade, tall and grand.
Everything in the capital could be described with the word "most."
The Great Dao was the widest, able to accommodate three carriages pulled by five horses side by side. It was also the most bustling and prosperous; on the Great Dao, one could see people dressed in fine silks everywhere, surrounded by fresh and rare items. Especially at night, when the lights illuminated everything, it felt like daytime.
Lin Feng and Miaomiao had been in the capital for two days. They were waiting for other sects to arrive so they could activate the ancient Teleportation Array together to send them to Zhongzhou.
During these two days, Lin Feng and Miaomiao left the quiet royal palace to wander around the capital. They encountered many curious things that piqued their interest.
For instance, they enjoyed watching Shadow Play, tasting various delicacies, and observing a Songstress dance... But what Miaomiao loved most was releasing Wishing Lanterns by the riverside.
"Junior Sister, once we finish releasing the lanterns, we will return to the palace. Tomorrow is the day we activate the Teleportation Array," Lu Wushuang said as she stood among the crowd, watching Lin Miaomiao giggle with Lin Feng while releasing lanterns, reminding them from time to time.
"Alright, alright! You're so annoying. I told you not to follow us, but you insisted. Standing right between me and Lin Feng—do you think that's fun?" Lin Miaomiao replied with an unhappy expression as she stood up.
Lin Feng also got up without glancing at Lu Wushuang. Instead, he pointed ahead and said, "Miaomiao, it looks lively over there. Shall we go take a look?"
"Sure!" Miaomiao exclaimed happily.
"Junior Sister, it's getting late. The Elder asked me to keep an eye on both of you; don't let your playfulness delay us... Junior Sister... Junior Sister..." Seeing Lin Feng and Lin Miaomiao disappear once again into thin air, Lu Wushuang's face turned pale with anger. "Lin Feng, using such despicable methods to win my Junior Sister's favor is truly shameless. Just wait; I, Lu Wushuang, will make you regret it."
With that, Lu Wushuang blended into the crowd in search of Lin Feng and Lin Miaomiao.
Lin Feng appeared before a fortune teller with Miaomiao by his side.
Miaomiao smiled and asked, "Lin Feng, what kind of tricks did you use to easily avoid Brother Lu multiple times?"
"That's a secret, I can't tell you," Lin Feng replied mysteriously. What he had used was the telekinetic Martial Arts Technique given to him by the Sword Saint Senior, originating from the Cloudridge Immortal Trace.
The fortune teller, noticing a guest had arrived, stroked his goat beard and said, "A pair of ill-fated lovers, what do you wish to inquire about today?"
Upon hearing this, Lin Miaomiao frowned and said, "Hey, old man. What do you mean by that? Who's an ill-fated lover? Speak nicely, or I might just hit you."
The fortune teller was short and thin, practically just skin and bones with sparse hair. He stroked his goat beard again and said, "Girls' Home is in the South Sea, Youth's Home is elsewhere. Past life's favors were not met in time; this life’s meeting is for repayment. Unfortunately, they are ultimately a pair of ill-fated lovers who cannot grow old together."
This chapter will have slower updates. Journey to the Central Plains is a plot I have been brewing since I started writing; it is the first major arc of this book. I must write it thrillingly and deliver unexpected surprises. To make the explosive moments even more intense, I need to lay down some groundwork in the early stages. Journey to the Central Plains also marks the conclusion of Youth Journey, which is significant. I need to take my time writing and thinking it through.
As a newcomer with a new book, I seek recommendations and support; there are too few readers.
