Chapter Eighty-Seven: Barbarian Beast Tide
Above the Snowfield, an endless expanse stretched out, with the cold wind howling towards the thousands of the Demon Army. The Demon Army stood like a pine tree, unwavering and immobile.
At the forefront of the army stood a man clad in Golden Armor. His complexion was exceptionally pale, a translucent white that was strikingly handsome, even exuding a certain enchanting beauty.
He was none other than the First Demon Disciple, Meng Han. His Xuanjia bore numerous cracks, with both his shoulder and chest plates showing signs of breakage. It was evident that he had been through a fierce battle.
"Boss, the Second Brother is calling for our support," said the Fifty-Third Demon Disciple, gazing towards the distant direction of Demon Two's forces.
Meng Han seemed indifferent to this remark. His gaze was fixed thirty miles away as he pondered, "Compatibility Level. The human race is indeed filled with talents; there is no shortage of rare individuals. So it turns out that the Dark Horse you mentioned that day is yourself."
Compatibility Level—there was not a single person among millions who could match it. For instance, the Demon Clan's Seventy-Two Demonic Followers were all exceptional beings among their kind. Yet among these Seventy-Two Demonic Followers, only Meng Han possessed the Compatibility Level, and at this moment, he recognized its extraordinary nature.
"Boss, should we provide support?" asked Demon Five Thirteen again.
Meng Han replied calmly, "This mission is to kill the princess of the Tang Empire. The objective has been achieved. If Demon Two wants to kill for revenge on behalf of his brother, that is his own affair. It’s time to regroup and prepare to head to Zhongzhou."
Meanwhile, Lin Feng continued his journey deep underground. His Divine Consciousness spread out and discovered an expanse of emptiness ahead, as if he had reached the end of the earth. With no path forward, Lin Feng immediately turned left.
Boom…
With a tremendous crash, Shoulder Wu's massive leg came crashing down into the ground below. Fortunately, Lin Feng managed to stop in time; otherwise, he would have been crushed under Shoulder Wu's enormous limb.
Ying Zhao took a more direct approach, dropping straight down in free fall. With an explosive sound akin to Thunderous Roar erupting around him, the ground collapsed in a radius of several dozen feet around Ying Zhao's landing point, creating a massive pit.
The left path was blocked. Both ahead and behind him were Ancient Beasts obstructed by Cultist phenomena.
With nowhere to escape, Lin Feng charged upward.
Holding the Moon City Sword in his right hand and raising the Ancient Cauldron in his left, he stood in the Void. Looking back, he saw nothing but a white expanse of Cloud Sea. He had no idea what lay beyond the Cloud Sea or what was beneath it.
Ahead of Lin Feng, besides the Ten Great Demons, there was also an army of ten thousand Barbarians and ten thousand ferocious beasts.
Demon Two looked at Lin Feng, his eyes filled with a strange expression. Lin Feng had killed his brother and severed his arm. It was rare for him to remain so calm.
"I will kill you today. You will definitely die."
Lin Feng quietly surveyed his surroundings, assessing the situation. It was indeed a dead end. However, he did not want to die, nor was he willing to accept it. He still had many things to accomplish.
For instance, returning to see Miaomiao, bringing Tang Jiner and Mo Mo back with him, and participating in the Jiuzhou Gathering Conference to claim first place.
"Second Brother, stop wasting time with him. This damned guy has caused us to dig for so long; let’s all attack together, tear him apart, and then divide his flesh to take home," Demon Six said angrily.
Demon Two was about to respond when a tall Barbarian suddenly spoke up: "Let me handle this. We have already wasted enough time."
Demon Five was displeased upon hearing this; he pointed at the Barbarian and said, "Hey, what do you mean? You think you can just disregard us? If you’re brave enough, let’s fight; the loser leaves an arm behind."
"Demon Five, don’t be rude to our guest," Demon Two interjected, causing Demon Five to immediately quiet down. Demon Two turned to the Barbarian leader and said, "Brother Uta, please."
"Keep your eyes wide open."
Utakak's words were directed at Demon Five, who wore a proud and disdainful expression. Then he slowly raised his right hand.
Roar! Roar! Roar! Roar...
The sounds of ferocious beasts echoed from behind him as the ten leaders parted ways to create a path. Tens of thousands of Barbarian warriors riding their beasts charged forward.
Dozens, hundreds, thousands...
It was as if a beast tide had erupted; countless ferocious beasts surged forward with their Barbarian riders towards Lin Feng. They opened their massive jaws and roared at him.
The sight was terrifying.
Lin Feng, with his extensive experience in hunting beasts, sheathed the Moon City Sword. Although the sword was sharp, piercing or hacking into a ferocious beast and then pulling it out would waste precious time. No matter how swift he was, facing tens of thousands of ferocious beasts would leave him vulnerable to significant openings.
Lin Feng gripped the legs of the Ancient Cauldron, bracing himself for the impending onslaught of beasts.
Thud, thud, thud...
Countless ferocious beasts charged forward simultaneously, their massive bodies pounding against the earth, creating a rhythm like a drumbeat that quickened the heartbeat of anyone nearby. The momentum and impact generated by tens of thousands of beasts were incomparable to that of warhorses.
These beasts were all above the fourth rank, each possessing a powerful Beast Core cultivated within them. As they ran, they unleashed the might of their Beast Cores.
The Fire Attribute Beast Core radiated its power like a blazing flame enveloping the beast. When it roared at Lin Feng, flames could be seen flickering in its mouth.
The Thunder Attribute Beast Core released its energy as well. Sparks danced across its body, and its eyes glowed with electric intensity. When it opened its mouth, strands of lightning flickered among its fangs.
The Wind Attribute Beast Core surged with power, granting incredible speed. Leading the charge were twelve hundred wind-type beasts, their roars overlapping to form a sonic Mystical Arts attack.
A single fourth-rank beast's sonic attack posed no threat to a formidable Foundation Cultivator. However, when combined with one hundred or even one thousand beasts, the cumulative effect was astonishing.
It was akin to a mosquito's negligible threat to a human; one could easily swat it dead. But if there were ten thousand buzzing around, the sheer volume would cause ear pain.
The might of these beasts did not simply stack; through some formation, they converged together to produce exponentially greater attack effects.
Before the tide of beasts arrived, the sonic attack struck.
As Lin Feng suddenly encountered this sonic assault, his Sea of Consciousness jolted violently, causing him intense pain in his head. However, with his cultivation fully activated, these attacks would not inflict significant harm.
This was thanks to the Golden Dragon Armor. The Golden Dragon Armor surpassed High-Level Battle Armor in both strength and defense by leaps and bounds. Its inherent power could be wielded by its user but required a certain Compatibility Level to do so. Additionally, the Golden Dragon Armor possessed defensive capabilities that High-Level Battle Armor lacked—such as protection against sonic attacks and Divine Consciousness assaults.
The sound waves caused little harm, but they left Lin Feng feeling restless.
In the blink of an eye, the ferocious beasts of the Wind Attribute Beast Core arrived. The Barbarian Warrior atop one of the beasts swung a massive weapon resembling a wolf's fang, continuously choosing targets while making strange noises, his face full of arrogance.
Lin Feng embraced the Ancient Cauldron and swung it at the charging beast. The Ancient Cauldron collided with the beast's body, producing a solid thud before sending the creature flying.
The beast was knocked unconscious on the spot, its body crashing into another beast behind it, causing a chain reaction.
However, this was merely a drop in the ocean compared to the entire tide of beasts. With one beast down, the Barbarian Warrior wielding his club charged at Lin Feng without fear of death.
Lin Feng kept swinging the cauldron, knocking beast after beast away. For a brief moment, not a single beast could get close.
Soon, beasts with lightning and fire attributes arrived alongside others from different Beast Cores. There were too many beasts; no matter how fast Lin Feng was, he couldn't keep up. He gradually found himself in a tight spot.
Bang...
The first beast collided with Lin Feng. Although it didn't knock him down, it caused his body to sway slightly. At that moment, the Barbarian Warrior swung his club toward Lin Feng's head. If Lin Feng hadn't dodged in time, he would have been struck directly.
Bang...
The second, third, tenth, and hundredth beasts followed...
More and more beasts crashed into Lin Feng. The Barbarian Warrior's club also struck Lin Feng's head. If it weren't for the Golden Dragon Armor protecting him, he would have been bleeding and injured by now.
Quantitative changes would lead to qualitative changes; it was only a matter of time. The Barbarians were waiting for that moment.
As more and more impacts and blows to his head occurred, Lin Feng's speed in swinging the cauldron significantly decreased. He decided to dive into the Ancient Cauldron itself, controlling it to spin rapidly like a wheel amidst the tide of beasts.
Bang bang bang...
The Ancient Cauldron rolled like a ball, crashing into the ferocious beasts and sending them flying in all directions. Lin Feng himself, clad in the Golden Dragon Armor, had astonishing defense. Once he entered the Ancient Cauldron, his protection was further enhanced, leaving him unscathed.
Inside the Ancient Cauldron, Tang Jiner and Mo Mo had fallen into a deep sleep. The space within was not very large, causing Lin Feng to be tightly pressed against both of them.
A faint fragrance emanated from their bodies, filling the entire Ancient Cauldron.
Though the beauty was captivating, Lin Feng had no time or inclination to admire it.
Tang Jiner's body was extremely cold, devoid of any warmth. Lin Feng reached for her pulse but felt no heartbeat. This truly resembled a lifeless body.
Thinking of this, Lin Feng swallowed hard, tears welling up in his eyes.
"My lady, I, Lin Feng, will surely bring you both out alive. With the supreme Holy Art of Yunlu Xian Sect, surely it can bring you back to life."
With this thought in mind, Lin Feng remained on high alert as he controlled the Ancient Cauldron to fend off the tide of beasts while also guarding against the Ten Great Demons and Ten Savage Disciples.
