Chapter Seventy-Two: Conflict of Camps
On this day, Lin Feng was radiating an aura of murderous intent. Lindor felt intimidated and dared not approach too closely as they walked.
The two arrived at the Council Hall, where they found Shen Jiahe engaged in conversation with two individuals.
One of them appeared somewhat elderly, with strands of white hair. He kept his head down, arms crossed, leaning back in his chair with his eyes slightly squinted, as if dozing off. The other was a young and robust man, towering and equally matched with Shen Jiahe.
He raised his chin arrogantly and said, "Are you going to release him or not? You people from the Horizontal Blade Camp need to give a clear answer. What’s with all this dragging it out?"
Shen Jiahe remained calm and composed. His subordinate hurriedly poured tea for the two gentlemen, smiling apologetically, "Lord Su, please don’t be anxious; have some tea to cool down. This is just a misunderstanding; we are all Border Troops of the Tang Empire, and everything can be discussed."
As soon as he finished speaking, the burly man named Su slammed his hand on the table and stood up angrily, "What the hell is there to drink? The tea from your Horizontal Blade Camp is like horse piss. I’ll ask one last time: are you releasing him or not?"
Lin Feng happened to witness this arrogant scene and quietly asked Lindor about the man. He learned that the man was named Su Fang, holding the position of Vice Captain, equal in rank to Lin Feng but slightly below Shen Jiahe.
"That guy, what is he shouting about? What rank does he hold? To roar at an officer within the camp—does he know what crime that is?"
With a commanding voice, Lin Feng and Lindor stepped inside.
Upon seeing Lin Feng, the members of the Horizontal Blade Camp displayed expressions of delight. After all, it was he who had captured the person in question; whatever happened next would be handled by him, and everyone was eager to see the spectacle unfold.
"Your humble servant greets Lord Lin," the members of the Horizontal Blade Camp bowed respectfully.
Lin Feng nodded slightly in acknowledgment. Then, with eyes gleaming with cold murderous intent, he turned to Su Fang and demanded, "State your name and rank."
Su Fang was a seasoned warrior who had killed countless foes. However, upon meeting Lin Feng's intense gaze filled with killing intent, he couldn't help but shiver. When he realized it was Lin Feng who had captured War Maniac, he immediately stood up and overturned his chair in anger, "You’re the one who captured my lord?"
"State your name and rank," Lin Feng repeated coldly.
Though intimidated by Lin Feng's imposing presence, Su Fang had survived many battles and managed to hold his ground. He retorted defiantly, "Why should I tell you? Who do you think you are? Do you think you’re worthy?"
"Come here, this person is disrespectful to his superiors and has committed an offense. Bind him and give him thirty military strikes. If he resists, kill him without mercy."
With Lin Feng's command, Lindor stepped forward with a few others. Su Fang dispersed his cultivation, coldly staring at the crowd and said, "Who dares to come forward? I'll kill him."
"A mere early Fate Realization dares to be arrogant in the Horizontal Blade Camp."
Lin Feng sneered as he unleashed his cultivation, dense Vital Energy swirling around him, continuously gathering in his fists.
"You are merely at Fate Realization as well; what are you so arrogant about?"
Su Fang showed no fear, similarly condensing Vital Energy in his fists, wanting to show Lin Feng a lesson.
Lin Feng moved with incredible speed, closing the distance to Su Fang in the blink of an eye before swinging a powerful punch. Su Fang responded with all his strength. The two fists collided.
Bang...
With a resounding crash, painful cries echoed throughout the hall. After their fists made contact, within moments, Lin Feng's fist shattered the Vital Energy within Su Fang's punch and directly exploded Su Fang's right arm.
Su Fang's forearm below the elbow was a bloody mess, the bone twisted and deformed, looking horrifyingly gruesome.
Lin Feng turned to the stunned crowd and said, "Bind him up. If there is any further resistance, I will kill on the spot."
"Yes, my lord."
Lindor snapped back to reality, astonished by Lin Feng's strength. He approached again to bind Su Fang, who no longer dared to resist.
Su Fang had seen many ruthless individuals before, with War Maniac being the most formidable. However, Lin Feng's calm yet fierce demeanor made him even more apprehensive.
An old man opened his eyes and looked at Lin Feng with a hint of surprise that quickly turned into a fierce glare. He stood up and bowed slightly to Lin Feng, saying, "My lord acted recklessly; it is said that even in war between nations, one should not harm envoys..."
Before the old man could finish speaking, Lin Feng coldly stared at him and asked, "Which nation are you from? Do you wish to go to war with my Tang Empire? Is it the Great Barbarian Nation from this state? Or the Great Zhou Empire from Zhongzhou? Or perhaps the Demon Clan?"
As soon as the words were spoken, the old man realized he had misspoken and was momentarily at a loss for words.
Lin Feng snorted coldly and said, "Take Su Fang down and give him thirty strokes with the military baton as a warning to others. If he resists, report it immediately."
"Yes."
Lindor dragged the bound Su Fang out, feeling a surge of satisfaction. First, the Lone Moon Sect Disciple had little authority among the Border Troops, and today Lin Feng represented Solitary Moon City with great authority. Second, as a Mid-Life Realm Cultivator, being able to bind a Fate Realization Cultivator and even spank him was quite gratifying.
Lindor couldn't help but smirk.
Compared to the War Maniac, Su Fang's arrogance was still lacking. After being intimidated by Lin Feng, he completely wilted and became quite docile.
Soon, the sound of military batons striking echoed outside. These batons were not ordinary iron rods; they were akin to Xuanjia and could be considered a type of magical artifact. Different cultivation levels had different grades of batons. Striking the backside caused a fiery pain. Lindor executed the punishment with such ferocity that he put all his strength into it.
While Su Fang muffled his cries, Lin Feng turned to the old man and asked, "Is your master insisting on this?"
The old man sensed Lin Feng's sharp words and grew wary. He thought to himself, if so, wouldn’t that imply that this disturbance was instigated by General Zhu?
"Your lord was inexplicably captured, and everyone is hoping for his return. The Demon Army is coming; we cannot be without our leader," he replied.
After finishing his statement, the old man felt there were no flaws in his reasoning and even felt somewhat pleased with himself. He glanced at Lin Feng as if to say: You may think you can outsmart me; I've eaten more salt than you've eaten rice.
Lin Feng remained impassive and said, "Your master harmed others without cause; that's not a grave offense. Just record his statement and he can return. You may wait for further instructions. If you wish to take him away, let General Zhu follow the proper procedures for reporting and negotiation. If we receive orders, we will naturally release him in advance."
At that moment, Su Fang was brought back in. Not only had his right arm been rendered useless—he didn't know how many elixirs or how much time it would take to recover—but his backside bore bloodstains from the baton strikes, indicating just how ruthless the punishment had been.
The old man grew serious, realizing he was no match for Lin Feng in debate. He said, "Sir, is this the response from your Horizontal Blade Camp?"
"The Tang Empire has Rule of Law; everything is handled according to regulations," Lin Feng replied firmly.
After sneering several times, the old man looked around at everyone before finally fixing his gaze on Lin Feng and said, "Good, good indeed. The Horizontal Blade Camp has quite an air about it. We will meet again soon."
The old man left with the injured Su Fang without looking back.
The people in the room fell into silence; some felt a sense of relief, while others were weighed down by their thoughts, creating an awkward atmosphere.
Shen Jiahe cleared his throat, breaking the silence. "Lord Lin, we have captured their leader and punished their commander. Breaking Cloud Camp will not let this go easily. What is your decision, Lord Lin?"
"Don't try to play coy with me; I know you are in league with them. They arrived too quickly, likely because you tipped them off," Lin Feng replied. "But don't worry, Lord Shen. The military has regulations against harming civilians. Although General Wu has committed this offense, it is not a grave crime. After recording his statement, we can let him go."
Shen Jiahe nodded. "Your commitment to justice is commendable, Lord Lin. However, it would be best to release him soon to avoid further trouble. Since the Armored Soldier captured him, it should be up to you to resolve this matter."
"You need not worry, I will handle it properly."
With that, Shen Jiahe turned to leave, instructing his subordinates to stay and observe. They were to report any changes in the situation promptly.
Not long after Shen Jiahe departed, members of Breaking Cloud Camp arrived and stood beneath the city wall. Without hesitation, they began to charge at the city gates.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The heavy sounds of impact echoed as the city gates shook violently. Hu Bing led the others in finding sturdy beams to block the entrance and formed a human shield, spreading out to resist together.
Lin Feng was unafraid of escalating the situation; after all, he had the authority on his side. The more chaos there was, the more it would benefit him. He did not order the archers to shoot at Breaking Cloud Camp but instead commanded everyone: "Archers prepare; infantry block the city wall. All Armored Soldiers assemble and stand ready."
Half an hour later, the city gates were breached, and a large number of Breaking Cloud Camp soldiers attempted to rush in but were stopped by Horizontal Blade Camp soldiers. The gates were narrow, causing both camps' soldiers to crowd together.
After all, they were all Border Troops of the Tang Empire; no one dared to truly strike first. The Armored Soldiers from both camps remained at the back of their formations as a deterrent. The attacking soldiers wielded wooden sticks.
Thus, it did not resemble a battle but rather a street brawl among thugs.
"Breaking Cloud Camp has betrayed us; show no mercy and beat them fiercely!"
"Horizontal Blade Camp is treasonous for falsely accusing court officials. Breaking Cloud Camp has come under imperial orders to suppress them. Surrender now to avoid death."
“Breaking Cloud Camp shamelessly distorts the truth; everyone, let's beat him to death with sticks.”
“Horizontal Blade Camp has been deceived, unable to distinguish right from wrong; everyone, quickly wake them up with a blow.”
“……”
The two factions hurled insults at each other while engaging in a brawl. Although some were bleeding, no one had lost their life yet. Lin Feng stood high above, quietly observing everything, his gaze eventually settling on the hundred Armored Soldiers outside the city.
“The real battle is about to unfold. My High-Level Battle Armor was destroyed by the demon race; today I can only rely on my physical body to fight against the Armored Soldiers. I wonder if they are strong or weak compared to High-Level Battle Armor?”
Lin Feng smirked coldly; today he was determined to kill the War Maniac. He felt a sense of anticipation at the thought of clashing with the High-Level Armored Soldiers.
