Chapter Thirty-Six: The Goddess
The cold wind howled across the desolate wilderness, creating an eerie sound that echoed in the emptiness. The lonely expanse seemed even more desolate.
A young man dressed in blue sat on the ground, leaning against a withered tree. The harsh winds and sand of the wilderness had covered his clothes and face in dust.
"Where... is this?"
The young man in blue struggled to speak, his voice barely audible. His hands were oddly tucked into his sleeves, as if he feared the cold and did not want to expose them.
Standing before him was a tall, imposing man dressed in black. His face was stern, and he exuded a strong aura of menace. The man looked at the young man in blue and slowly asked, "Do you want to live or die?"
"Live." The young man spat out the word with determination, his eyes filled with resentment.
"Do you want revenge?" the man in black continued to inquire.
"I do," the young man replied immediately.
"I come from the Demon Clan," the man in black stated, fixing his gaze intently on the young man.
At the mention of the Demon Clan, the young man's body trembled slightly. He gritted his teeth against the pain and leaned against the withered tree to stand up. Then he looked at the man in black and said, "To survive, to seek revenge, I am willing to embrace darkness."
"The Demon Clan has many minions; we do not lack for one more," the man in black replied, clearly unimpressed by the young man's words.
The young man recalled his past—being thrown into a cave where he nearly perished. Unexpectedly, that cave turned out to be a secret passage filled with water. He had floated along with the current for a long time before finally seeing daylight again.
This young man was Lin Qing. It had not been easy for him to survive until now. Therefore, he had to continue living.
With this thought, Lin Qing revealed a fierce expression. "For survival, I am willing to do anything."
Only then did a hint of satisfaction appear on the face of the man in black. "That day, I infiltrated Solitary Moon City through a secret passage. I wanted to see how your kind has been faring and whether you have forgotten about our existence."
"Just in time to see you fall into the secret passage. You're injured so badly, yet you managed to crawl out alive from the water flow. Your perseverance is commendable, but what’s even more remarkable is the hatred in your heart."
"I've been observing you for five months. I've watched you struggle to survive, begging passersby like a wounded animal, being chased and beaten like a stray dog. Finally, I witnessed your hatred for the entire world, your resentment towards the heavens."
"To cultivate the Demonic Arts and reach a higher level, talent is not the most important factor, nor is diligent practice. The most crucial element is possessing a Demonic Heart that yearns for destruction."
After finishing his words, the man in black quietly gazed at Lin Qing, waiting for his response.
"I do have it. If I had that power, I could kill everyone in that village along with their livestock right now," Lin Qing replied, madness flickering in his eyes.
"You certainly do; otherwise, I wouldn't have followed you this far," the man in black said.
"Then can I join the Demon Clan and cultivate the Demonic Arts?" Lin Qing asked eagerly.
"However, your heart is still lacking. With a heart that encompasses the world, how can you achieve world destruction? Therefore, I need to help ignite the flames and obliterate your world," the man in black replied calmly.
Upon hearing this, a deep fear surged within Lin Qing, sending chills down his spine. He couldn't help but ask, "What... do you want to do?"
"You will see."
In Solitary Moon City, at the ancestral hall.
Lin Feng returned to Solitary Moon City, his mind still filled with images of his conversation with the Sword Saint. The experiences of this day were too significant for his life. It felt as if it had illuminated the path ahead of him, and what he desired was to walk in that direction.
Lin Feng increasingly felt that time was precious. He needed to seize every moment to break through to a physical strength of one hundred thousand pounds before entering the next Foundation—Cultivation.
Only by truly entering the Cultivation Realm could he demonstrate the extraordinary nature of being a Walker and become an immortal in the eyes of mortals.
"To enhance my physical strength to one hundred thousand pounds, I must return to Beastly Forest. I should meet Miaomiao; it's been a while, and I really miss her."
Lin Feng entered the ancestral hall looking for Miaomiao's figure, but there was no one inside.
“Miaomiao, where are you?” Lin Feng shouted loudly.
“What are you shouting for in the ancestral hall? Are you looking for death?” A voice scolded him, and a chubby man dressed in a green Dao Robe appeared. It was Elder Xu.
Seeing Elder Xu, Lin Feng respectfully bowed and then asked, “Elder Xu, where is Miaomiao?”
“She’s at the Pillar Pavilion,” Elder Xu replied.
“Thank you, Elder Xu.”
Lin Feng respectfully bid farewell and then hurried off towards the Pillar Pavilion.
Solitary Moon City’s Inner Sect was vast, with the Five Peaks occupying several dozen miles. Lin Feng didn’t know the location of the Pillar Pavilion, so he could only ask around as he made his way there.
The Pillar Pavilion was located at the peak opposite the main peak of Solitary Moon City. It was famous for having a monument on top. Only core disciples were allowed inside Solitary Moon City.
Lin Feng was unaware of these rules and charged straight up to the summit. He saw Miaomiao chatting over tea with several senior brothers.
The pavilion was just a larger gazebo. Inside were only six people, with Miaomiao being the only woman. Seeing Miaomiao surrounded by a group of men he didn’t recognize stirred an unnamed anger within Lin Feng, and he felt quite displeased.
Lin Feng didn’t intend to enter but stood outside the pavilion and said, “Miaomiao, come back with me.”
Upon hearing Lin Feng’s voice, Miaomiao looked up and, seeing him, couldn’t help but smile. “Lin Feng, you’re finally back! Come over and sit; I’ll introduce you to my senior brothers.”
“Miaomiao, come back with me,” Lin Feng repeated, his expression growing increasingly unhappy.
Miaomiao noticed that Lin Feng seemed unwilling to meet her senior brothers. Although she felt confused, she didn’t ask further and readily agreed, “Alright.”
Just as Miaomiao stood up to leave, a man in white blocked her path. “Junior Sister, don’t be in such a hurry. It’s rare for us to gather like this today; we still have many insights about swordsmanship to discuss.”
After blocking Miaomiao, the man in white turned to Lin Feng with a look of disdain. “Which peak are you from? Don’t you know this isn’t a place for you?”
"Which peak I belong to is none of your business," Lin Feng said, watching Miaomiao surrounded by a group of men. His mood was already sour, and now this person was blocking Miaomiao from coming out. Lin Feng didn't care about this person's identity; anyone who stood in the way of his girlfriend meeting him would face his wrath.
"Miaomiao, hurry up and come out," Lin Feng urged, his tone growing more serious. He thought to himself, even if I haven't made it clear, aren't we already a thing? Why are you wasting time chatting with these idiots while I'm not around?
Miaomiao realized that Lin Feng was genuinely angry this time. It was the first time she had seen him so upset. Although she didn't know the reason, she pushed the person in front of her aside and said, "Senior Brother, please step aside. I need to go back with Lin Feng."
The man in white stood firm like a mountain. His cultivation level surpassed Miaomiao's, and he said, "Miaomiao, do you have some dirt on you that this guy is holding over you? Why are you listening to him? Don't worry; today I'll take care of this for you."
"Take care of your own business and get out of my way."
How dare he block my girlfriend? Even if you're a prince, I'll still confront you. Lin Feng finished speaking and immediately channeled all his vital energy, throwing a powerful punch at the man's face.
"An ignorant frog at the bottom of a well thinks it can show off?"
The man in white displayed deep disdain and contempt, not even glancing at Lin Feng. He didn't activate his cultivation but casually waved his hand, intending to easily send Lin Feng flying in front of Miaomiao to demonstrate how weak Lin Feng was compared to his own strength.
Just as Lin Feng's fist was about to strike the man's palm, the man suddenly sensed something amiss. He quickly dispersed his cultivation, but it was too late; as soon as he released it, Lin Feng's fist connected with his palm.
Bang...
The sound echoed as Lin Feng's fist met the man's hand. The man was sent flying at an angle, crashing into a pillar of the pavilion before falling down.
Lin Feng didn't even look at him and took Miaomiao's hand. "Let's go back."
"Okay," Miaomiao replied obediently, following Lin Feng out of the pavilion. She wanted to ask what was wrong with him today but held back, knowing he was in a bad mood.
"Where do you think you're going?"
The one who had been sent flying was Lin, the eldest disciple of Falling Sunset Peak in Solitary Moon City, whose cultivation had reached the Mid-Life Realm—far superior to Lin Feng's. He never imagined that a weakling at the Foundation Realm could possess such astonishing strength.
The five top disciples of the peaks gathered here to get closer to Miaomiao. Her reputation had soared recently; in just half a year, she had reached the pinnacle of the Cultivation Realm and was on the verge of stepping into the Mid-Life Realm. Her talent rivaled that of the legendary Sword Saint.
Moreover, Elder Xu, who had always been indifferent to worldly matters, had made an exception to take her as a disciple. It was known that in all of Solitary Moon City, Elder Xu was the second strongest person after the Sword Saint.
Miaomiao had become the absolute core disciple of Solitary Moon City, the most important candidate for cultivation. Her talent was unmatched. More importantly, she was a woman of extraordinary beauty, lively and spirited, bringing joy to all who beheld her.
Unknowingly, Miaomiao had become the goddess of Solitary Moon City, attracting countless Inner Sect Disciples vying for her attention. Even the top disciples from the Five Peaks came forward to win her favor. The other Inner Sect Disciples realized that such a stunning beauty was someone they could only admire from afar; who would dare compete with the Five Peaks' Top Disciples?
After much effort, the five top disciples finally gathered today. Lin Xiang wanted to impress Miaomiao, but now he found himself humiliated after being knocked away by a Foundation Realm disciple.
At this moment, Lin Shan's heart was filled with hatred; thoughts of killing Lin Feng began to take root.
